Does MS Office 2019 Fit My Needs + Cheapest Source?

Hey fellow tight arse peeps,

I’m a poor uni student. Just started this year, and I've found Libre Office just doesn’t fit my needs, this is mostly around sharing files between multiple devices.
What I want to do is have my essays, reports etc. Stored in the cloud, and seamlessly edit them on my phone, laptop and desktop.
Ok, so I can use MS Office applications free on my android phone, it's just on windows that I need to cough up the money for.
So what I want to know is can I buy one of those unscrupulous MSDN keys, activate MS Office 2019 on my laptop and PC, and then link my personal One Drive to MS Office on my laptop and desktop to share my uni documents across my PC, laptop, and on my phone with the free MS Office applications?
Finally, If this’ll work what's the most unscrupulous dirt cheap outlet that you know of for obtaining a MS Office 2019 key?

For reference I'm studying at Uni SA.

Update:
Thank you everyone for all your help, I really wasn't expecting so many people to help me!

With the link that thatonethere provided I downloaded MS Office, signed into it with my Uni email and bam free MS Office 365!

    Yes.

Would Google Docs meet your needs?

    • I'm more used to MS Office and Open Office, would prefer to stick to them

Hi Wystri, as a uni student you should potentially have access to a free license of Office 365 through your university? Have you had a look through that route as of yet?

    • Oooh I didn't know this, I'll definitely check it out, thanks so much!

      • +4

Speak to your uni's IT department, most likely they are already enrolled in Microsoft office program and you would simply login to your LMS (learning management system) like Blackboard, then use the link provided within to download the Office installer.

The username and password would be what you would normally use for your SSO / university's webmail.

Make a Microsoft account and use Microsoft Office online $0.

I was thinking of that but I prefer not to use online options, I've online options to be a little sluggish and they require an internet connection. I sim slut so they're can be times when I'm without a internet connection for a couple of days, and this just won't cut it for uni

      • +3

        I sim slut

        Pardon?

They are a part time street worker.

I have never ever heard that term in my life, but my guess is they mean they use mobile Internet only and have periods without SIM card credit, or they leech off other people's mobile Internet.

I guess they don't live in a fixed residence and have broadband shared among the occupants.

Or, perhaps some of today's youth don't even realise non-mobile Internet exists.

          • +3

@davidmwilliams: Yeah I'm sure that's what it means. I guess they will stick any old sim in their slot.

        • +1

You must be new here 😉

It's where you have absolutely no loyalty to a mobile provider and regularly change your provider to take advantage of deals that come up at other providers. Often they are short term deals (e.g. $4.99 for 3 months, or $10 for one month), hence requiring frequent changes. You can get heaps more data for a much cheaper price this way. It can be a viable replacement for home internet if you are a very light user.

          • +1

@moar bargains: Yep that's it. Thanks for explaining it! 😊

            • +1

@Wystri Warrick: It's a practice I've taken part in myself in the past ;)

Now I'm on Aldi's $99/12 months plan. Due to change of circumstances I'm mostly within Wifi range at home or work, so don't need as much mobile data.

  • +1

Only $75 here or $60 for none pro version.

    • Is that like a OEM key, or MSDN?

      • What is MSDN , click on the link, it says key.
BTW: I'm not sure about how genuine the seller is, although cheapest I found on google.

Office 2019 Professional Plus is essentially what you get when your university or organisation itself owns a volume license of Office 2019.

          Explanation of a volume license

          • volume licensing is the practice of selling a license authorizing one computer program to be used on a large number of computers or by a large number of users. Customers of such licensing schemes are typically business, governmental or educational institutions, with prices for volume licensing varying depending on the type, quantity and applicable subscription-term. For example, Microsoft software available through volume-licensing programs includes Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office

With MS Office Software as a Service model, the licensed program communicates recurrently with Microsoft over the Internet; as such, a product key needs not be issued to the user. Instead the administrator needs to sign up for Microsoft account, which holds details such as licensed apps, their number, and payment methods. This account is protected by credentials such as a username and a password.

you generally should not buy Volume licensed software, as you don't actually get to 'own it' outright. Rather, you're being sold an account that has access to it. Whoever sold you that account is the owner of the license and they can actually revoke access at any point meaning you will lose the ability to use Office 2019. This happens for example if you cease to be an employee of that organisation or if you've graduated and the university removes your account from their database.

Since Uni of SA provides it's students with office already there's little reason to go out and buy your own copy. It's very likely it will continue to work for a period of time even after you've graduated — the uni won't remove your account straightaway.

          • @scrimshaw: none are worth it at all, unless you get a code for dirt cheap. though op should try his luck with his uni email address or get a free office key from an ozbargainer.

            • @[Deactivated]: Office Pro Plus keys go on sale on reddit for like $10~15 USD so yeah, the people who are selling it for A$75 on these Shopify sites with zero contact information are pretty much laughing themselves to the bank.

              • @scrimshaw: Exactly, even at $9 USD the seller is possibly also laughing themselves to the bank. Who knows where they get the codes from? Reuse it 100 times? AliExpress has it going for 1 buck. Your software organisation for work/school might hand these out for free. Hence, you might be able to grab one for free off somebody online :)

              • @scrimshaw: Those keys are not retail. They must have gotten them for no cost at all or they would be burning cash. Hence, why I highly recommend to avoid at all costs. Paying for software, particularly if you're a student should be a no go. They are almost all free.

          • @scrimshaw: Thanks scrimshaw for the detailed explanation! 😊

    • +1

that's key only, no retail packaging so who knows what they're handing out! too expensive anyways

  • +1

Office 365 yes, not Office 2019.

  • +1

Yes, have a look on reddit

Ain't it free to download and install for students via edu email?
    Up to 5x pcs?

Or… pm me. I think I can help. Freebie

Uni students usually get Office 365 for 5 devices from the university.

Softmaker or Ashampoo have excellent Free Office programs available.
All compatible with Microsoft. They are a good German Software company.

As others have said, check your uni's Intranet site, you will almost certainly have access to Office365 for free.

I like WPS office myself, over OpenOffice and its way more MS-OFFICE compatible and I like it now over microsift office, even though I have an official license key! You can even buy it if you want but you dont need too

If you want a cheap office, buy a key from a legit source is $44

Going to Uni is great these days with free versions of Office being given out. Back in my day, you either had to have the money for an overpriced retail version, make the trek into the computer labs, or know someone with a pirated copy. I guess MS caught onto the latter and decided to get people hooked on legit copies from the get go.

    • Back in my day, you either had to have the money for an overpriced retail version

I recall paying around $400… Might still have the 10 floppy disks somewhere too…

And as long as they’re going to steal it [Microsoft software], we want them to steal ours. They’ll get sort of addicted, and then we’ll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.

Free access as a student. You would have been informed of this.

      Not always…

    • Sadly I wasn't :(

    • Thanks for this sunmei29. I got office 365 free through my uni, but I've bookmarked the site for future reference when I leave uni. Cheers :)
