To Those Who Purchased The Dell S2721DGF - Monitor Clicking Noise?

Does anyone else notice clicking sounds from their monitor after turning the monitor off?

Especially after using the monitor for a few hours?

I usually hear 2-3 clicks maybe 30 seconds apart as I lay in bed about to sleep.

Wondering if it happens to others as well.

Monitors typically have large backlight screens, which heats up the plastic casing a little. When the screen is off the casing cools back down and makes these sounds.

You've never heard them from a tv or a fridge?

Thermal expansion/contraction is the name for it, and everything that warms up and cools down will have it.

I think the most noticeable is when walking away from a car after turning it off. So many different clicks.

      • Or panel heaters.. those things crackle and pops like crazy

  • Just turned my screen off then. It had been on for about 5 days.

No clicking noises. Sure it's the monitor and not your desktop?

  • Never noticed this issue with mine

  • Just opened mine yesterday and tested it, but it didn't have any clicking sounds after turning it off.

    • Just an update. Have been noticing some sharp click sounds after the monitor has been on for a while, but I think that's normal with most monitors, my old LG monitor did the same thing.

  • I was about to post a thread to ask if anyone had the same thing. I have it too. I had assumed it was the monitor expanding/contracting cos of heat. Somewhat prepared to live with it, but as it's going on it's pretty annoying.

This morning, the sun shone through my window onto the monitor (usually a curtain blocks it) and the monitor went crazy with creaking. Touched the back of the monitor and it was really warm to touch as if it had been on (note, the sun wasn't particularly harsh).

I searched online and did come across a forum where a Dell representative reached out to the affected customer to suggest a replaclement. I've occasionally come across the old CRT TVs that would creak but never to this extent. It makes me think that if it was an issue as extensive as this I would see it more regularly in forums, but if it's not common then it suggests that you and me may have slightly non-conforming units. It might be that the casing just hasn't been installed to spec and QC missed it. If it's a few turns of a screwdriver happy to have a go. Otherwise I may end up contacting Dell.

  • who is still getting clicking?

Thinking about this for my son in Uni.
