  • What vintage is it?

Without a doubt, a misleading sales pitch by the seller.

      SHHHH!

      It's meant to be a secret…

      • +7

They forgot to put in the 99 rating from the School Fete :)

…… or the Gold Medal :)

Retail prices on winedirect are really inflated for some wines, if you pay retail for Heirloom, Allegiance or Curtis wines you're probably getting screwed over.

Not to say this is a bad wine at $20, I sank down a zillion of the Murray Street Vineyards shiraz a few years ago (looking at my order history, 36 bottles in 3 months, good times) so they get some gems from time to time. The difficulty is finding the gems and ignoring the retail price.

You need to purchase $120 of overpriced wine to get this $39.99 bottle.

      • +1

I've read this 5 times and I still can't figure out what it means…

      • Apart from you dave, who else suggests its overpriced at $21/bottle delivered?

4.5 stars and top 15 in HH's 2018 Barossa shiraz if anyone's interested. His review is on the deal link.

Unfortunately it is not clear just you get for your $120 plus postage.
Have a look at his website,it's as clear as mud.

          • @Dave Id: It is clear if you read it :)

            • @Dboc1987: I have taught at Australia's top school and have an IQ in the top half percentile.
Your website would not pass 7th grade English.

          • +1

@Dave Id: I almost always click the link if I'm interested Dave. Took me a while but I get you now.

No it's NOT clear what wine you're getting from the website but as someone associated hasn't denied the deal poster's ID of the wine then you'd be within your rights to complain loud and long if it isn't Allegiance Wines 'the Artisan' Reserve 2018 (6 bottles for $120).

Oh, and my bad. HH's review is NOT on the deal link website it's HERE.

            • @[Deactivated]: Got a Gold Medal in China last year.

              Might explain being half price.

              • @Dave Id: Medals should, with some exceptions, be ignored Dave. They aren't meaningless nor are they great indicators of quality.

The childish Chinese tariffs probably mean quite a few deals will be available on (some) Oz wine for the next 6 months.

    • hey freefall101, just sent you a message, but which Murray Street Wines was it?

For those playing at home, it was not me, nor a winedirect.com.au employee that posted this. I refrain from posting secret deals because I can't reveal the identity of a secret deal and any time I have, it was met with unhelpful comments from users. I'm a little disappointed that someone taking the time to share that they enjoyed something was met with such cynicism and overall nastiness. @stumpa12 if you would like to private message me or flick me an email to [email protected], I'd be more than happy to organize a free bottle of something nice for taking the time to share this offer. Please don't let some negative comments sour your first OzBargain experience, you learn to ignore certain comments :)

stumpa12: Please add + shipping ($7.50) to the title

it was not me, nor a winedirect.com.au employee that posted this.

Dboc: Is stumpa12 anyone you know or anyone associated with the company or anyone related to the company or anyone who receives some benefit from the company (apart from your interesting offer)? The wording is more than a little suspicious, doesn't ring true for a non-associated deals poster at all. You/he/she/whoever might want to work on that.

Huon Hooke is a fair judge of reds imo, if a little generous with his numbers, so this should be a wine worth keeping for a few years. Decent enough price.

Someone (but not the sock puppetter ) works very diligently to have any comments that interfere with the marketing unpublished from the site.

      • It's fine to criticize the deal, the company or the product but going after someone who is posting on this site is not acceptable and doesn't contribute to a respectful community. Again, use the report button and let's stick to the deal at hand.

Oh and your conspiracy theory is false. No one has asked or reported the comments in this deal. I've been monitoring this deal since it was posted this morning (with a poorly worded title).

        • +1

Is this a new OzB interpretation neil? I've seen many similar comments let go in the past. Guess it depends on the wording but arbitrarily blocking comments which raise legitimate suspicions are not - imo - in the interest of people looking at deals.

            No, not new.

I've seen many similar comments let go in the past.

Best to report the comment. With 100,000+ comments a month, we can't always see everything.

arbitrarily blocking comments which raise legitimate suspicions are not - imo - in the interest of people looking at deals.

Attacking users by accusing them without evidence is not called for. The moderation team has more information available to us and the determination is at this time that there is no association, then that's where it ends.

Play the ball, not the man.

How do they get the cats to stand on the bottles to fill it? SHHHH it's a secret.

    • -1

Very funny! haha I actually like that, I'll have to remember it ;)

  • Please stop with the accusations as it is not welcoming to new users. If you have concerns or information then REPORT the deal.

    • We look forward to more threads from our newest member :)

If it's legitimate I hope he/she will be back to FIX THE TITLE as per the rules and rebut the comments, as some have done previously. The language is highly suggestive. From what I know, retailers of cleanskin/secret deals are bound not to reveal the wine details, although there are plenty of ways around that which aren't blatant. That's my take.

      This looks a decent deal.

      • The title doesn't need fixing. I fixed it within an hour of posting.

If the title needs fixing, report the deal. A moderator or power user will fix it. We don't need 100 comments saying the title is shit, and then one of us fixes it, then we have to clean up all the comments asking to clean up the title. It's a waste of everyone's time for such a quick fix.

        • Yay!
We now have the delivery charge.
          Thank you "alvian".

          • @Dave Id: If there is a delivery fee needed in a title, which I didn't see (looked like free delivery) then use the report link in future.

            • @neil: I was thanking "alvian".
Pretty sure the delivery fee was mentioned previously.
Prolly in the many posts you moderated.
Keep up the good work :)

  • I love winedirect! I have referred many family and friends who have now ordered 10-15 dozens of wine, and I myself have ordered at least 6-8!
The value of any deal is always in the eye of the beholder. I love their wines, and their team are great.
My fav are the Curtis range, Martins Range, Through the tasting glass mad hatter, and my all time fav is Lone Palm.
Their secret deals are great too.

  • I agree with your comments and choice of wines.
Winedirect is a retailer and they provide a choice - if you like the offer then you purchase - no different to a supermarket!
