Note: Costco is not a Participating Retailer from T&C so no cashback can be claimed. That's why they deducted $80 upfront as a coupon.

    • The fine print on the flyer doesn't say anything about needing to buy from an approved retailer.

Participating Retailers: Retailers who sell Participating Products in Australia and operate from shop fronts in Australia including both the physical shop front and online store operated by such retailers and which display promotional material. Note: Costco is not a Participating Retailer.

        • Where does it say that?

          • @Quantumcat: In the T&C

Apologies! They have another T&C specifically for Costco
Looks like you can claim for cash back

            • @soulzsium: Confusingly in their T&Cs at https://www.nespresso.com/au/en/terms-and-conditions they have

Participating Retailers: Participating Product must be purchased directly from either the Nespresso Boutique, by calling the Nespresso Club number 1800 623 033 or visiting the Nespresso Website, mobile app and ebay store.

And earlier in the T&Cs it sounds like you have to buy direct from the nespresso store to get cashback too, otherwise it is a discount at point of purchase.

I would be interested to hear if anyone on OzB is successful at getting the 2X $80 discount

I like to think i'm part of the reason they specify that Costco isn't a participating retailer.

They had a promo about 18 months ago for a similar machine at about the same price with a $100 cashback. In the early days of the promo, costco was specifically listed as a participating retailer and the machine was only $80 after "$100 instant rebate".

I bought 3 (the maximum claims per household), screenshotted everything, had my claims rejected based on the rebate being offered at point of purchase. Fought it for weeks and ended up getting all 3 cashbacks paid "as a gesture of goodwill" even though i was adhering to the t&c's 100%.

Then sold all the machines (because stuff getting stuck in an ecosystem where you can only buy the pods from the nespresso store) for about $130 each on marketplace after the promo had ended and they were all back to full price.

Not sure if the T&C is up to date. Many reports on the FB group confirming cashback success (to be fair, there was also one rejection, but it may be miscommunication).

Is the machine any good ?

    • Is the machine any good

I switched to this because the size of the serve.

However, caveat emptor, read the reviews. Even the reviews in the Nespresso website is not a pretty read with a lot of users claiming the machine will not last 12 months before breaking down.

All I can say is that it wont support the normal "classic" capsules. You need to buy the "virtuo" ones which are a different physical shape.

It just goes to show how shifty and environmentally wasteful these companies are. for that reason alone I wouldnt touch this with a barge pole.

    What's not to love?

Not being able to buy non-Nespresso brand capsules for it as they're a different shape (as @poxy001 pointed out)

  • Not good at Math, so can anyone tell how much actually pay for the machine?

    • at Costco $99.99

      claimed cashback $19.99

about one year time $0.00 (look at review from sanmigueelbeer)

Nespresso make really consistent good coffee. But the body of capsules add up. Ever since we bought Delonghi automatic, the cost of buying beans is much cheaper. Also we don’t create landfill, just give the ground beans to the trees in backyard… it’s a win win. Not to mention the aroma of freshly ground beans and the flavour is top notch. The descaling process is more complicated, but it’s small price to pay.

Bear in mind that you're tied to forking out high $$$ buying Vertuo capsules direct from Nespresso for this machine for around a decade (multiple online sources state the patent expires around 2030!). While there are some reusable Vertuo pod products around, I've read mixed reviews. A decade of very expensive coffees and will likely erode any savings from this deal.

    • Agree - some aftermarket pods you can refill but literally none apart from Nespresso branded.

$0.99 per capsule too….whoa!….fair enough i suppose, its got more coffee vs original and can give you a back rub at the same time….
