  Hmm - the last time I bought a Blaupunkt product that was on Ozbargain was a crummy sound bar with subwoofer, which just stopped working after a year or two.
  Not buying blaupunkt again.

    As far as I know yeah. They might make some specialised stuff (but it’s definitely not their TV’s), and just license out the brand name to a large Chinese mass manufacturer, but from memory yeah the brand went kaput :), and it was bought out based on their old stuff.

    Some companies do that, I think Sharp did that that for a bit (let someone else make TV’s with a Sharp label), and AFAIK Hisense were making Sharp tellies but they were shit so HonHai of Taiwan took them to court to get the license back because it was damaging the brand.

    Same sort of thing probably with Blaupunkt, in that people now associate the brand with shit quality so they’d want to either rebrand or make an effort to start making better quality stuff.

  Yep, generic OEM stuff with an old, venerable, respected European brand slapped on the box for marketing purposes. Makes me sad to be honest.
