Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB (4x16GB) 3600MHz CL18 (B Die) $599 + Delivery @ PC Case Gear

120

Very cheap for 64 GB Samsung B Die, normally they go for above $900, albeit this maybe of lower bin, though worth the gamble imo

Are these actually Samsung B Die?
I couldn't see anywhere in the specs that Samsung was mentioned.
The reason I ask is I recently bought some Vengeance LPX with the exact model number of my Samsung B Die, but it came with Hynix modules instead.
So it wouldn't surprise me if Corsair has been changing the components from their release models, but keeping the model numbers the same?

    • I'm not denying that might be happen, but god damn what a nightmare for them if they are doing that. From an engineering, manufacturing and accounting standpoint that has to suck.

They absolutely do use the same model number for different die's..

        Usually B-Die is v4.31

        Hynix are v5.32 and v5.39

The cynic in me thinks that why wouldn't they use the expensive parts in the first run and send it to reviewers, then start using lower cost parts to increase profits.
I would imagine that the current silicon shortages are probably more likely to be the reason for part swaps.

    • interesting, what was the model that you bought, I have 1 of this kit and it is B die

      • It wasn't this kit (mine is slower & smaller), but it was Corsair Vengeance LPX.
I assume I originally bought B Die RAM because it has some of the best Ryzen compatibility.
So when I saw a good deal on the exact same model number I had, I thought that would ensure the most reliability.
Unfortuntatly this wasn't the case & CPU-Z seemed to show multiple differences between them I think, but the manufacturer was different.

      • Did you check the version number on the sticks? Should be v4.31 for B-die, v4.32 for C-die which is what I suspect you have.

If you used Thaiphoon, it commonly misreports C-die as B-die.

        • yeah mine is rev 4.31

Yeah C18 seems a bit bad for B die at 3600?
I thought it should be ~CL16 for 3600, I can get 3200 CL14 pretty easy with my B die (patriot 4400 CL19) on Ryzen

Am I missing something or does this seem… expensive?

Read through all that die bollox. Apparently it makes a slight difference.

  • Cue the comments that 'you don't need more than 16GB of RAM'…

    • You also don't need anything more than a web browser but some of us do more on the computer.

      • You don't actual need more than 16 gb of ram unless you are doing one of the following (non exhaustive list):
        - Only very few games actually justify more than 16 gb of ram
        - Video/Image Editing
        - Gaming + Keeping 30+ chrome tabs open + Disc (Basically if you're a monster and leave everything open and running)
        - Software and coding development, but even then you will know what you are doing if this is you.
        - Running software that might need it (i.e. CAD Solidworks etc etc)

If you are not doing these (or other use case I missed actually requiring it) you do not need more than 16gb and are wasting your money.

        • I agree, I’m only running 64gb for CAD / 12d, can’t imagine you’d ever need more than 16gb for games

  • What are the reasons someone would pick this over one of these two?:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Patriot-Viper-Blackout-DDR4-3200MH… for $375

    or

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Patriot-Viper-Blackout-DDR4-3200MH… x 2 for $412

    • it's good if you like to tinker, not everyone cup of tea

      • mostly for benchmark scores and no noticeable everyday use (gaming, apps) difference?

        • I think there is a few% gain in some applications and if you run them 24/7 then you'll see the benefit after some months

  • Yuck, scraping the bottom of the barrel with Corsair kits. The die you get in the kit is random, and based on the timings, this is not B-die.
