  • damn, and I just picked up two Orient automatics 3 weeks ago

    • Personal opinion, but think you'll probably be happier with the Orients.

I got the black dial version of this (NJ2180-89H) last year and returned it.

Nothing drastically wrong, just don't think it quite has the finesse of my Orient automatics and Seiko "Cocktail Time" Presage.

Specs are excellent bang for buck and if I hadn't already been spoiled by the above models that I got at bargain prices over the years, then probably would've been satisfied.

Blue or white dial might have suited the matte finish better too, but already have enough of those coloured dials in my collection.

My review and reason for returning the black here:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/554878#comment-9276856 (as well as my comment directly above it).

Just search "NJ2180" on OzB to get loads of impressions about this watch and its various coloured dials from others (generally very positive).

I have an Orient Sun & Moon and am bloody impressed with it for the price.

Do you guys have any preferred store(s) for buying Orients?

I've taken a stab at dutyfreeisland for an RA-AR0002B10B. Was shipped 15 days ago and still waiting. I'm praying I don't end up with just an empty box >_<

@slapz: Actually, Dutyfreeisland is where I got my Sun & Moon from. If my experience was anything to go by, I think you'll be fine.

          • @slapz: Have the open heart on an Orient Producer, is mesmerising to watch :-).

          • @slapz: i got mine from US amazon, prices do fluctuate but I got them at pretty low price points and I do have free shipping with prime. Came within a week

Have used longislandwatch.com when they've had sales and $US/AU exchange rate was much better than now. Always had very responsive service from them - just a matter of biding your time until the price is right for the models you want.

Also picked up a few from Massdrops.

Lucky enough to visit Japan every so often and have picked up a few bargains from second hand stores there.

Haven't bought this brand from them, but Amazon AU have the odd decent price. Usually have to be quick though, as they inflate prices as soon as they notice the popularity.

Don't remember where I got my very first Orient (Bambino v1), as that long ago, but still love it as a watch and the one that first got me hooked on the brand.

          • @opposablethumbs: Thanks mate, I've been keeping an eye on Long Island Watch but haven't seen any Orient that I'm after there or in stock.

Can you explain Massdrops? At least, when I googled it, it seemed like an audio and mechanical keyboard company.

              @thisisscotts: Now called drop.com.

Effectively, get better prices for doing group buys.

They need a critical number to commit to a buy to get the price, then shipped predominantly from US.

Used to be more watches, but haven't participated in a "drop" for a few years, since the dive in US exchange rate.

Got an Orient blue Ray & Producer, plus AKG headphones in separate drops, but that's over 5 years ago.

Like I said Long Island are great service, but often have to wait quite a while for sale prices on your preferred model.

When you have the number of watches I have in my collection, is easier to be patient for the right price before adding more :-).

              • @opposablethumbs: Gotcha, thanks mate! Will keep an eye on Long Island (and Mark, who I follow on YT!)

                • +1

@thisisscotts: Yeh, his YT videos are great.

Dangerous though. After watching one of his videos, convinced me to add another Orient model to one I already had on order :-).

Bought my Orient Ray II from CreationWatches, so far so good. I believe they're base in Singapore so there's GST.

          • +1

@seeknsearch: Come to think of it that's where I got my first Orient (Bambino v1).

Also ordered a Seiko 5 from them after that.

            No dramas.

Delivery probably took about a week or so and the price was right :-).

  • reminds me of my citizen eco-drive
…that was a very nice buy at $90 delivered
