MSI Can't Be Serious? (Gift Card Cashback Issues)

So i purchased a computer for a friend from this deal:
https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/594691

Techfast posted this:
You can claim a $150 eGift Card via redemption from MSI - instructions are on the MSI website, but once you receive your paper invoice along with your system, you can submit it to them along with the serial number (read off your GPU) to claim the gift card

So after some time and my not getting the gift card i contacted MSI to follow up
i was advised that i needed to supply the Motherboard Serial Number also, now for some this would be no problem but is MSI really expecting people to pull apart their computers to get access to a serial number?
The location of the SN is on the 24 pin connector, the way the computer is assembled i need to remove the MB to get access to it as i can not see it from within the tower sadly.

I contacted MSI and asked them to confirm they will cover any damage i may cause pulling the PC apart as they insist the Serial Number picture MUST be taken from the MB itself, the one on the box is not acceptable.

Has anyone else had any issues getting their cashbacks?

Update
MSI have now supplied the gift card, they accepted the serial number from the CMD line prompt within Windows

cant you unplug the 24pin? if its zip-tied at the back just cut the tie?

not surprised your having a bad experience with MSI, their last ceo just threw himself of a roof and waved at all his employees on the way down (probably because of all the issues with redemptions?)

    • The way the MB is fitted the 24 pin connector is not accessible without my removing other parts that are in front of it
I am ok pulling the PC apart, but if they want me to do it (or the average joe to do it) then they can warrant the parts i may damage in doing so… i feel that is reasonable.

The other issue i have is that a no step in the process did they say i needed to submit the MB info, the redemption was for the GPU with a MSI case that was the required combo. They are just being difficult for the sake of it

      • 1) What does the T&C say? If stated in T&C then go to step 2.

        2) Send it back to techfast then

parts that are in front of it

Would be "maybe the fan"…. take a photo :)

You're going to have to take it apart one day.

        • Cleaning out dust / normal maintenance.

          Yeah I know ;)
my point is if it was not someone like me who is confident doing it how would anyone be able to get their redemption given this requirement (that i can not find anywhere)

in saying that, MSI have now replied and agree that asking me to remove components is unreasonable
they have accepted the CMD line prompt pic of the SN and i just got my Gift Card

    • Throw in an MSI company also scalping 3000 series cards on eBay for 2x msrp and they’re not having a great run of it

    Seems reasonable to me.

thats what i ended up doing.
They insisted i take a picture of the sticker.
I sent the one from the box and the one from CMD and they finally accepted it (when i insisted they cover me for any damage i may cause pulling the thing apart)

I would have been tempted to photoshop the serial number from a photo of the BIOS screen onto a stock photo of a 24 pin power connector just to troll them

I hear ya… my mobo had a free copy of Monster Hunter World on redemption, but they wanted a photo of the mobo S/N as well. Extra painful for me as it was buried under a custom watercooling loop.

I just ended up skipping the redemption. Didn't know there was a CMD prompt method for it, damn!
