Hey OzB,

Long time lurker, first time deal poster. Found an old code from the Adelaide Fringe earlier in the year for 20% off beer on the Pirate Life store and it looks to still be working.

When your workplace blocks all alcohol websites because they've had enough of you getting booze delivered to the office all the time LOL

*note - I don't drink in the office, I just get it delivered there.

    • Would be ok if you worked at Dan Murphys lol

      • +2

Dan's is ok having alcohol delivered from other stores?? That's surprising….

        • +1

          Who said from other stores..

  • +8

Good beer and good price, but delivery makes it same price as other places…

  • One of my favourite breweries.

  • Anyone know how much delivery is under $150?

    • +1

      Looks like it's a flat $10.

  • +7

    The not so craft brewery

Also they call a slab 16cans!

    • +4

16 can slab sounds like a craft brewery to me…

      • +6

They are literally owned by CUB/Asahi. They are as craft as VB these days, just better tasting beer.

        • +1

Does the term "Craft" mean that they have to be small and independent?

The reality is that if there small craft breweries (of which I count Pirate as one) don't craft beers in the same way they did when they were independent they will quickly become irrelevant.

          • +2

@C0mbat: 'Does the term "Craft" mean that they have to be small and independent?' No.

    • +4

Craft refers to the beer, not the ownership.

      • +33

Craft refers to any brewery, large or small, that throws generic IPAs into cans. The cans should either have Microsoft clip art labels that look like they were designed in 1996, or garish Mambo-style art with the words HAZY, JUICY, TROPICAL, NEIPA, and EAST COAST splattered over it at random.

Bonus points if your brewery has cr4p hygiene controls and you can pass bad batches off as a "sour".

          Outstanding.

          Why so bitter?

        • Some of these places that use a lot of lactose and fruit passing it off as beer, while deserving all the criticism they get, also put out some of the best traditional lagers, a real craft.

        • Standing ovation

  • Ahh!

  • can vouch for this place, the beers are really nice

  • Doesnt seem to work on merch
edit: woah, $20 shipping on a slab :\

  • The link took me to a very small selection. I found the full selection here.

    https://shop.piratelife.com.au/collections/beer

  • Their Montenegro IPA they did at GABS was so good, 10% ABV as well.

I wish they had of made it a production beer. Amazing.

I love interesting beer but the price of it in Australia has turned me into a wine guy.

Pirate LIfe is peak crazy. These prices are insane.

  • +1

This beer is expensive because good beer is expensive to brew:
    https://blackhops.com.au/craft-beer-prices-how-much-does-beeā€¦

    • And the bad beers is expensive to brew .

    • Pirate life is sold at bws here in SA, been discounted a few times to q decent price

32 fridge pale ales for 70 is alright

    • But it shouldnt cost pirate life this much. The prices they charge are stupid crazy.

They are owned by CUB/Asahi so their buying power is crazy.

I believe what they make profit wise on cans would far out to do black hops and other independent brewerys.

  • +2

Their prices are a joke. They're not Indie anymore. They're owned by Cub yet they're still charging outlandish prices. And the idea that 16 is deemed a "slab" is ridiculous.

These days beer prices have in general become ridiculously high. And the change from a 6 pack to a 4 pack still irks me.

  • U guys do know that a large percentage of the price is TAX…….

    • +2

      You are sort of correct.

Tell me how can coopers sell a 24 slab Pale Ale cans that are 440ml at $54. 1.6 standard drinks
      And then
Pirate Life sale their pale ale at $62 for a slab of 16 and their cans are only 355ml. 1.5 Standard drinks.

      They are screwing people over.

      • +1

Plus Coopers are still an Independent label and Pirate isn't anymore which makes it even more crazy with their prices.

    • Yep. That tax increases 1.5% twice a year, 1st Feb and 1st Aug. So stock up the week before.

  • Most 'craft' beers are taking the p1$$ a bit these days - 330mL & a lot more expensive. I noticed a japanese beer that's only 300mL.

    • +2

This applies to a lot of goods. Instead of increasing the price they lessen the size. Large packets of chips used to be 250 grams, then over the years they have been reducing the size approximately 10% and now are 175 grams or less. Whenever they change the packaging they usually make it a smaller size.

      • Mongrels, pay more get less

  • Thanks OP! Got a few cases.
