  • Isn't glass a poor conductor of heat? I would think this would be very energy efficient at all

    • Good point.

Nearly all electric heaters are 100% (or close to) efficient…. Whether or not it works well, that's another question.

As someone else said, it is 100% efficient as all electric heaters (you can't lose energy to heat when that's your purpose), but it won't heat anything that sits in front of it because of the glass. If you are aiming to increase the overall temperature of a closed room it will work fine. I don't think it could be used for a patio as the product page suggests.

I don't think it could be used for a patio as the product page suggests.

To clarify, it radiates heat, like all the overhead heaters outside restaurants, so some would say it is somewhat useful on a patio. It won't blow hot air around. It radiates heat and causes the heated air to go up and move in the room, so creates convection, slowly heating the room. On a patio - or outside in general - heated air goes straight to the sky, so using those 2400W of electricity outside is just ballin.

Safe to assume almost 100% efficency - because where else is that electric energy going to go?

And also 100% is bad as for a heating device - reverse cycle ACs have 500-600%, so it's 5x cheaper to run an AC. I learnt that from OzB™.

Yes, heat pumps use the thermal capacity of outside to warm up your house, so they are >100% percent efficient for a closed system (i.e. the house). They are still 100% efficient as far as the universe is concerned as they cool outside when heating inside (or vice versa).

Have an older model of this heater and it's not great at one thing - heating. The glass does nothing but look cool, the heat vents out the top and backwards.

Maybe good to heat a small room, but a simple small fan heater would be more efficient.
