Impossible since these don't have an engine. It simply burns diesel to generate heat,
So it's just a fancy kerosine lamp that runs on diesel?
Not really, it is specifically a heater, not a lamp.
Impossible
Nah. Boil water with heat, steam runs generator.
How hard
Plenty.
Okay price, use VINNIES10 $9.99 off
Anyone know if this has an inductor on the control board - which generally makes if afterburner (Opensource controller) compatible?
Take care with these - some models of Chinese diesel heaters have been found with asbestos gaskets which is not exactly awesome
Same as Chinese generators etc
I’ve not used one of these before - any issues using this with a tent? Does it need to exhaust externally ?
common with people camping up near the ski resorts to save accomodation. Have these plugged into their rooftop tents….haven't heard of any issues….
You need to run the exhaust outside of the tent due to poisonous gases. This model has the exhaust exiting directly out the bottom which makes it more suitable for a vehicle installation where you can drill a hole in the floor or else you need to put the heater on blocks so you bems the exhaust at 90 degrees do get rid of the gases. It will need an exhaust shield too as the exhaust gets extremely hot and would melt your tent if it touches it.
Dangerous Situations and Consequences of using a diesel heater
1.Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
One of the most serious risks of using a diesel heater indoors is carbon monoxide poisoning. Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can be lethal at high levels. Symptoms of CO poisoning include headache, dizziness, nausea, and in severe cases, death.
it's the death y really have to worry about
Also…
2.Fire Hazards
Improper use or faulty installation of a diesel heater can lead to fire hazards. Overheating or fuel leaks can ignite flammable materials nearby.
3.Respiratory Issues
Prolonged exposure to exhaust gases can cause respiratory issues and long-term health problems.
You gotta be the BIGGEST ret__d to light diesel on fire in atmospheric conditions.
So the whole planet surface experiences 'atmospheric conditions'
And diesel, or any other fuel that doesn't have an oxidiser, requires oxygen from said atmosphere.
So what are you rambling on about?
@Quarn: Lol -4 downvotes by anti-science scrub who need to go back to school and read a book (or watch a video).
You literally need to apply a flame directly onto diesel for at least 1 minute before it will catch fire.
Diesel is NOT a fire hazard and is quite safe. You can literally put out a match if you drop it into diesel fuel.
Gasoline on the other hand is so dangerous that before the flame touches the liquid, it will ignite the fumes and go KABOOM.
So yeah, you gotta be really dumb to die by a diesel fuel fire.
You can get a carbon monoxide alarm fairly cheap from Bunnings or Amazon.
as per the article
This risk underscores the importance of proper ventilation and CO detectors.
It would be placed outside the tent, no? The warm air would not be coming out of the exhaust.
Exactly. Keep this OUTSIDE of what you're trying to heat and pipe the heat to the inside. Obviously there could still be leaks during the heat exchange so always have a carbon monoxide sensor to keep safe + some ventilation.
5kW is a LOT of heat (typical household heaters max out at half this) - but that's probably at the unit on max burn setting.
Weird list - these have nothing to do with Diesel heaters, they're just the side effects of burning things 🤷
If you start a wood fire in your lounge, then all the same issues apply.
these have nothing to do with Diesel heaters
They do!
Like ALL fuel burning heaters, those are the major risks: CO Poisoning, spread of fire, & health risk of particulates.
Knowledge of that can aid in choice of an appropriate heater, it's placement & crucial need for ventilation for safe operation.
wood fire in your lounge, then all the same issues apply
Not to the same extent!
If you have a wood fire in your lounge, it is almost certainly (or should be) in a safe fixed location, with surrounds to prevent spread of fire, adequate ventilation etc.
Should have regular checks & maintenance.
Properly installed - should meet standards designed to avoid those risks.
But each year warnings of the risks are issued. People do end up in hospital!
Whereas placing this portable heater in a room without adequate thought to risks like ventilation & CO poisoning… Is very risky.
It's too easy to do that, considering many have no experience with use & risks of diesel heaters.
Similarly, people bring inside cheap portable gas Patio Heaters. Labelled only for outdoor use. People do that without thinking on cold nights. Despite the risks!!
So this portable heater is far more likely a risk, than a properly installed fireplace.
But all fuel heaters come with risks 🔥
(Have used many wood burning fireplaces. Now use reverse cycle aircon. But that comes at a far higher initial price! And less likely option if renting.)
How hard to hack this into a cheap 12V diesel generator?
