Is the the next movie after "The girl with the dragon tattoo"? ;)

Also check out "Five Centimetres per Second" and the newly released "Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below (Hoshi o ou kodom)" from Makoto Shinkai, acclaimed as the new Miyazaki.

Grave of the Fireflies. Also another great classic.

        • Yes very good but very sad. That's cheap too:

In fact, a lot of the Studio Ghibli classics are really cheap on Amazon UK - about £5 after VAT deducted.

        • It was a very sad film but it was also extremely ironic. They painted the allies as cruel and heartless when bombing japan when they themselves killed so so many people and made even more into slavery.

        • Also much of the misfortune that fell on the kids was due to their dad not being there. Their dad in the movie was in the army on an away mission, probably doing to another country's citizens and kids what the allies were shown to be doing.

You all know the war was over 50 years ago right??? Long time to carry a grudge.

And I personally don't like this film. It's too sad. I have little ones of my own so I can't watch this sort of thing these days. I just tear up too much.

You do know how stubborn Japan is as a country still right, its probably not much different to 50 years ago? Just look at what their argument is for whaling every single year.

        • You'd put yourself up as worthy of judging an entire country?

          High opinion of yourself much?

      • Five Centimetres per Second is almost art, not just a movie. It's simply beautiful.

      • Agreed, also check out 'Voices of a distant star' by Makoto. Another masterpiece!

I thought it was one of the Millennium series :p

Totoro seems to be a big anime fan

    • Totoro seems to be a big anime fan

Wouldn't say "big" fan, but I do enjoy some of them, amongst other things like science fiction, fantasy and period dramas…

I KNOW RIGHT! To me it's like "ITS AN ASIAN CHARACTER WHO SPEAKS LIKE AN AMERICAN!?!?!?!!"

  • PRINCESS MONONOKE !!!!!!

  • Both The Girl Who Leapt through Time and Summer Wars are really good. They have some touching moments! I highly recommend.

  • Might be worth putting the price in AUD

  • Girl Who Leapt Through Time is a sweet, somewhat touching movie. Definately not 'kiddy'. I greatly enjoyed it after purchasing the DVD from JB Hifi for around $16 over a year ago.

Went for the £2.49 DVD, left after spending £41.56 :(

Nice find tho :) Will keep an eye on the BD version..

I need more movies like this in my life, tbh. I was surprised at how good this movie was when I first watched it.

  • I don't know where you can get your hands on the real action movie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Traveller:_The_Girl_Who_Le…) but if you can, this version is almost as good if not better than the anime version - highly recommended!
