Hard to find one of these with dual display ports or at least one and one HDMI

It’s because DisplayPort doesn’t have enough bandwidth for multiple displays without going to DisplayLink.

This model is only 4k@30hz, so it’s a DisplayPort 1.2 device. So just enough bandwidth for the HDMI port, 2x USB 3.0 ports and the card reader.

DisplayLink adds significant cost, but sacrifices display quality.

      • Hmm, I'm just after a cheap dock for a mate to run 2x 24" 1080p dells from a Lenovo Thinkpad, obviously the Lenovo/Dell docks would be the solution but as you say they are about $200-300. So it doesn't have to be 4k@60Hz, just have minimum of 1x HDMI and 1x DP. (These monitors don't have HDMI input, but i've currently got one HDMI -> DVID cable from his notebook. I'm waiting to see if he's got usb C, but I think a USB C-USB A adapter would work.

I did see this Dell one that could do the trick?

        Thanks

        • You should be able to find a USB-C dock with Dual 1080p@60hz + one USB-C 3.1 port. That would max out the available bandwidth.

But yeah, that combination is pretty hard to find.

          • @guidedlight: Thanks, dual or at least one DP don't seem to exist in these Small docks

            • @G-rig:

Thanks, dual or at least one DP don't seem to exist in these Small docks

HDMI can carry a DisplayPort signal. So if you see HDMI on one of these docks, it's just a physical HDMI plug with a DisplayPort signal.

You can use an adapter or DisplayPort to HDMI cable if you need to.

Read the reviews of these USB c adapters before buying. I spent months with one that looks identical to this wondering why my Macbook kept crashing while in sleep and why the mouse wasn’t working. The USB 3 on these often causes a ton of interference because they’re built cheap. Finally was told by the manufacturer that the device doesn’t support charging MacBook while in sleep. Doesn’t mention ANY of that on the product page. I returned it and got one that works. It wouldn’t just get an error, it would completely crash and have to boot cold.

    • That was happening to my M1 MacBook too but it seems to be alright now. They fixed it with the last Big Sur update.

    • wow this has probably just explained why my apple mouse has been playing up and off over the last 6 months. What did you end up getting as now on the hunt for another adapter after my last one died.

  • Hello Rep, will the HDMI work on a USB c that doesn't support video output?

  • Is there ever a chance of getting one of these Hubs with longer cable ? I have not been able to find one that could reach behind my desktop case !

  • Want one with USB-C charging and USB port OTG, just want to charge my tablet and connect OTG devices at the same time.

    Any cheaper model?

  • So this one supports 4k/30hz, can it do 2k in 120hz perhaps?
