    Thats one sexc chromebook

  • Standing screen display size 13.3 Inches <— what about when its sitting down?

    red in colour. super fast.

  • +1

I'd take this over the XPS any day especially at this price

    • agree, I bought two 😳

  • +3

    4k 13"? Hmmmm

    • +3

Yeah that's just going to burn battery for little reward. Better off if it was QHD to save power. Heck even FHD would be ok at 13"

      • +2

Can we just change the output to fhd?

        • +1

          yeah i really concern about battery… people say 3-4 hours,… i prefer 6-7

    • +1

Exactly, no point in having 4K on a 13", it's actually a bad thing for the battery.

  • +1

Fiesta Red over $1k cheaper than mercury grey colour. Big saving if you can live with the colour.

    • +6

Lolwut?!? Who in their right mind would pay nearly $2k for this? Though for $500 I'd buy it in hot pink.

      • +1

Yup a bit pricey but the form factor and screen look amazing.

    • +1

easy just put sticker decal if you fancy black

  • Can this run Office apps?

    • Yes .. the Android Office apps and browser apps.

Microsoft now support most platforms and Microsoft loves linux.

  • +1

Can we use install windows in these instead? It's just an i5 isn't it?

    • Interested to know too. From the specs, it sounds like it should work. Not sure how it will go with finding drivers.
Also it might impact the already not so good battery life

    • +1
    • Check youtube, I thought you could but not sure.

  • +1

Seems like a very good device if you can get past the poor battery life (~4 hours) and the Chrome OS limitations. Good deal!

    • +3

4 hour battery life. That's a hell nah. You would think chrome OS of all things would be sipping power not guzzling it like it's going out of fashion.

      • +3

Obviously you are not acquainted with what 4K and OLED does to battery life.

        • +1

Yeah, no idea why people are shocked by the battery life.

4 hours for 4k and AMOLED is honestly impressive

        • +1

While this is true, there is no point in having a 4K on a 13" screen, absolutely stupid design.

        • +1

Er what? OLED is the most efficient mass production panel tech we have rn.

  • +5

Seems it's sold out. Only Mercury Grey at $1,974.77?

  • +3

This rather impressive model is likely on clearance as the first Tiger Lake Chromebooks hit shelves today.

Granted the ones I have seen are not as nice as this, even if Xe is a significant uptick in GPU.

Nvidia is in the ChromeOS space now. Valve is developing a ChromeOS Native version of Steam. Things are going to get a lot more interesting soon for a lot more people.

    • +2

I'm pretty sceptical. People have been talking about the death of desktop Windows for a decade now.

Splashtop, Express Gate, Windows RT, Windows 10S, Android laptops, Steam Machine, 1000 Linux distros, Hackintosh, etc. None of them have ever lasted.

Despite the naysayers Windows is the best it's ever been.

      • dont know if windows is the best. more windows is what more people are familiar with.

  • The Chromebook Red ones is sold-out on that special price.

  • Shit I am minutes too late….again…

  • -3

at this price you're better off with a high end tablet or maybe even a phablet

    • +1

Find me a high end tablet with a 13 inch AMOLED display for $800.

      • +3

This is way better than the tab 7+…..too bad its sold out

        • Chrome os is just too restrictive for this price

          • +1

@belongsinforums: I thought you could install andorid apps on it so it basically its an android tablet.

            • -1

@moneytomyway: Maybe? I had one of the first Chromebooks. Lasted a few months. Then the battery carked it. Then it wouldn't log in. Useless.

              • @belongsinforums: You can easily install apps from Google store on chromebooks just like your phone nowadays.

                • @moneytomyway: That seems pretty good, assuming all Android apps are compatible (they are likely not)

                  • @belongsinforums: Unfortnately that's the downside for any Android tablets.

                    • @moneytomyway: Yea. Usually there are phone only apps and tablet only apps. There are also high end apps that require certain hardware or OS updates. With lidar, apple is now the same. The older, cheaper ipads don't have the functionality of the new ones

                • @moneytomyway: Well it depends - I got a cheap chromebook and google said they would bring apps to it, but they never did.

                  But anything recent - yes.

      • -2

Ripoff. Get a tablet or a m1 apple. Why a hybrid? Doesn't this annoy anyone?

        • +2

How on earth is it a rip off? As I've stated above find me a similarly specced tablet for $800, and then factor in an additional $100++ for a sub-par keyboard cover. If you had to choosebeween the Galaxy Tab 7 plus and this I'd say this presents far better value.

          • -3

@[Deactivated]: Why would you pay $800 for a high end tablet?
You can get one with a kb for $200-$300 or so.
Samsung says they will update android for 2 years -thats $400 a year.
May as well buy a cheap tablet every year for that!

    • +1

Pre or post android apps being compatible?

  • -3

Thanks for putting this up 20 minutes before expiry at 4 am

    • +2

huh ? 4am ? you must be still dreaming

It's US$499 on the US Samsung website could use a forwarder for those interested. I did a quote through Shipito for a 2kg item, came up US$59 odd for DHL 2-4 day delivery with insurance.

    • hmm usd499 with tax or not yet ?

    • Looks like 799 without trade in.

  • Not sure when using a forwarder.

  • dammit , checked anyway after saying expired and it was $717 waiting for son to message me back and went back to $1400 .
Need to buy first , think about it later !

    • yeah, lesson learnt, especially Amazon is easy to cancel order within few hours of ordering it.

  • Anyone have a screenshot of the price or an invoice they can pm? For price protection.

  • +1

    BACK with same price!!

    • And it's gone.

      • Shit, luckily I managed to cop one…..
Don't lose your hope and keep checking on it.

    • +1

Huh camel3x didnt send me notification…

      • Says it takes up to 8 hours.

  • Back again with $1 price increase and delivery in early June

  • Mine was ordered after it had gone out of stock and then been listed again so was afraid they might pull the plug. It's just shipped with estimated arrival fate of mid-May.

      Got one cheers.

      • You bought s7plus tablet and then now this as well? For collection?

        • blame ozbargain

          • @bogstation: Don't you mean 'thanks orbargain'?

            • @xoom: Usually thanks first then few days/weeks after receiving, blame comes out.

              • @CyberMurning: You got a point.

                • @xoom: At least he can help others with the comparisons between two, later.
I fully support his shopping behaviours.

            • @xoom: No

              • @bogstation: so hows the comparison, Mr Bog ?

                • @CyberMurning: If the main purpose is for media consumption and simple browsing, the tablet is better. This is based on getting them for approximately $750 each. I wouldn't pay full sticker for either.

                  • @bogstation: i see.. ok just bought lenonvo duet off ebay will try what is chrome os

  • Has anyone actually received theirs from this deal? Mine appears to have disappeared off the face of this earth if the tracking is to believed, no updates for over a week now.

    • Yep. Ordered 24th April and received 9th May.
My tracking had no updates for 10 days between arrived at carrier facility to customs clearance.

  • +1

    Ordered 2nd received 6th.

    • and? happy? battery life okay?

      • I am enjoying mine and very happy with it. No issues as reported in the comments below and it seems the Chrome OS update has improved battery life.
At 50% brightness I can get 7-9 hours ozbargain shopping and around 5 to 6 hours youtube streaming.

Full brightness chrome browsing will only get 4 to 5 hours but that setting too bright for me.

    • Hang on ordered on 02 May and Received on 06 May? I placed my order on 26 April and tracking last updated on 04 May with this which makes no sense

I'm finding the battery like okay for me despite all the bad reviews. I thought the screen would be amazing and while it's good it's not great. It suffers the fly screen (screen door) effect which I wasn't expecting and is really disappointing. The whole left edge also appears a bit dim. My 7 year old Tab S 8.4 is amazing and is better. 4k YT content looked very good, haven't tried much 4k on Prime and what I did looked terrible, was a dark scene though. At this point I'm happy enough, it's zippy and the simplicity of good for general browsing, email etc.
