Nice headphones. I bought a pair for about $100. They're not worth $364, though.

  • Have it for a few months. So far so good. But it's not worth if it's > 200

  • +5

Very poor quality, i only used less than 1 month and the side of the headphone already cracked, the extended part of the headphone is very thin, not much support at all.

and i emailed creative, they say this is physical damaged and cannot be replace, so no warranty/replacement.

yeah growth trend in crap companies this assertion. madcatz/tritton/ratt etc all employ this same illegal stance. If it is not fit for purpose for any reason, and fails to perform in a reasonable manner for a reasonable period, including manufacturing faults it is covered by the warranty because these terms cannot be excluded legally for new products.

The problems arise when crap companies like this want to be difficult is finding anybody to assist you in obtaining your legal rights.Laws are there but no-one in Australia enforces them. Creative like the Madcatz group are abysmal for their support and I don't touch their gear anymore unless it's really really cheap for this reason.

Best thing to do is to report them to ACCC who won't do anything normally for totally refusing warranty on known manufacturing/design fault but it lies on file. These are cheap because of these known issues

  • No Paypal option is the only reason I haven't invested in a pair.

  • Aurvana life for 69 is a much better sounding headphone if you don't mind lack of noise cancelling

  • While not one who normally cares for Bose I did prefer the comfort of the Quiet Comfort 3 which I picked up on 'special' for the equivalent of $190 last time I was in the UK. I used to fly a lot and such headphones really helped.

For $90 inc shipping I certainly would not be upset at these!

  • I bought these when the last OzBargain deal was listed for $99.95.

I've already used them on two overseas trips and they were fantastic on the plane. The sound quality is very good - not super audiophile standard but as good as my mid-range Sennheiser HD518 phones.

I have been very careful in handling mine and taken good care of them, and they have always been kept in the travel case. Many people seem to complain about the headband cracking but if you look after them you should be fine.

For $89 a very good buy.

    • good to hear yours aren't cracking yet, but i have always put them back in the case after using it. i have bought myself a pair of bose comfort after my creative headphone cracked and using it the same way i did with the creative headphones, i have to say the quality are so much better than the creative.

Are these better than the Beats Headphones?

    • Which Beats model? I think for the most it doesn't take much to beat them.. from what I've read Beats is like Bose in terms of having the brand/image being so hyped up? Would any Audiophiles care to comment? =)

      • +2

I would say that beats is even worse than bose and we all know that bose are crap.

@fifafan94 if you are asking if these are better than beats? Just get the beats. Trust me. The creative aurvana x-fi would not make you into the poser that you seek to be.

      • Beats are definitely worse. I have a pair of BOSE and they are actually quite good. People can whine all they want, but I had a pair of QC2's and they lasted me 6 years, then the ear pad started to fade/wear. Went to BOSE and they traded me a brand new pair of QC15's with case/warranty for $99. Great Post-Customer Service.

        • bose's reputation for speakers is bad but their reputation for headphones is rather good imo.

beats on the other hand = bad, not to mention the rampant amount of fakes.
there are also a lot of fake qc2's so be careful in both instances.

  • The Air model is on sale again too, Sold out quickly last time, little more expensive this time.

  • wouldn't go for creative any more as the stiff soundtage drives, seeking to get more dramatic pairs with advanced balanced signature

I have said this before and I will say it again; do not buy these headphones. I have had so much trouble with this particular model of headphones and the communication with creative customer service team. The headband is extremely flimsy, I kid you not. With regular usage it will break within months. I will be going to the ombudsman and lodging a complaint after I get back the heaphones from creative. This investment has been a complete waste of time and money. I even went to the great lengths of starting up a webpage in order to collect testimonials from buyers across Australia that have suffered a similar fate. The price will tempt you but do not be fooled into an endless stream of dribble from thier "template d" cust service team.

    • As I said in my previous posts I've had no problems after 3 months of use.

      • I've also had no problem with mine. I'm aware that people have problems, so deliberately take good care of them, including putting them on from the front of my face and only pulling them apart just wide enough to get over my ears. The headband isn't the strongest, but I use mine a fair bit and have had no issues using them in that way.

  • Come on RRP

  • Lol, most everyone who was going to buy this has already got it the last howe many times this has been posted.

and if anything, the new model is only twenty bucks more, with mic and only take one battery.

So if anything, a Creative rep needs to jump on here and give a greater bargain discount, especially here on Ozbargain! Then I may snap up a second set of these instead of waiting for the new model to be on sale..

    • are the new ones any better?

    • do you mean HN-900 ?

      • yup. the Creative Aurvana X-Fi seems bettert than the HN-900 except for the inline microphone. no reviews online of the HN-900

        • nah.. the HN is newer also use 1 battery and detachable cable. found 1 review on amazon. but i think the price should be lower than $100

        • +1

newer is not always better. plus the x-fi has 90% noise cancelling. the HN-900 is 85. Also i know the hn-900 uses one battery. question is does it last as long

  • Just a quick update, out of stock now. The website says "Back in stock soon"

  • now back in stock.

  • A few qns on these:

How long do the batteries last?
Are the batteries for the noise cancelling or do they also drive the sound?
If only for noise cancelling, if the batteries are flat can you still use the headphones, just without noise cancelling?

    • +2

    Got this deal last time.
They headphones peform great for the price IMo.
only thing wrong is build quality i hit mine off my desk and work and the side of the headband cracked.
Also after a few more knock of the table i noticed the niose cancelling function not working either, not sure if it was related to the originals crack (as i could see the a cable running thru the cracked plastic piece) r from the bumps it took. Either or these lasted 6 months and i wasnt happy with creatives reponse.
id steer clear unless your very good at looking after your gear and dont knock them too much.

  • +1

It seems the general opinion is if you are able to handle these phones with kit gloves and be careful you will have no problem, but if you use them 'under normal conditions' the build quality lets them down.

I got these over the Bose because I just don't travel enough or use the NC feature to warrant that cost. I use these for my couple of OS trips per year and my everyday pair of Sennheisers for every other day.

  • I ordered these, they just arrived. Opened the shipping box, the product box had two sets of seals, one over the top of a previous broken seal.

opened the box, inside is the case, with a plastic bag over it, taped shut. two pieces of tape, new one over an old split one.

opened the battery compartment, scuff marks where batteries had been put in.

this to me reeks of refurb units. I'll be emailling creative about it.

  • omg.. @salem, let me know what creative says, im thingking to get this too for my august trip to KL ($99 air asia)
