I ordered something from Europe that was shipped over a month ago (it's a specialised part that I can't get here). The sender's post service tracking says "Shipment sent to country of destination" and auspost tracking says "Cleared and awaiting international departure". It has been like that for a month
I understand that with Covid shipping is all messed up.
I'm not in a huge rush but from others experience will I ever see my item or should I give up hope???

Really depends on the supplier, their country and choice of transport provider.
I purchased an item from Germany using DHL economy last month; arrived in 2 weeks
Another item was on the UK using DHL express last week, arrived in 2 business days
It was sent by tracked mail from the Netherlands. They offered courier but it was really expensive.
I guess you get what you pay for……

Jumper from the UK. Ordered last Friday, arrived today.
Was it sent airmail or surface mail? A friend recently sent me something from UK via surface mail and was quoted 12 weeks until delivery. Air mail would have been a lot quicker (and more expensive).
Posting here seemed to have helped. Just got a tracking update that it has arrived in Sydney!

Transit times very quite a lot by country of origin.
Tracking scans sometimes have different terminology and stages of progress. For example, the foreign post office scan may really mean it has been handed over to the airline - not actually left the country.
