    • You a Shpongle fan?

      • Shpongle isn't 'underground house'.

Anyway, I got all the Shpongle deluxe reissues on vinyl.

Here's my pick from the sale items. It shouldn't be $55 in the first place but seems pretty normal these days unfortunately.

  • Any typewriters?

I don't need vinyl, I need a sale on a devent vinyl player.

    • Yes! Even my local Vinnies and Salvos have started to charge crazy prices on their turntables!

    • I know, I've been waiting :'(

      • I’m in the market for an audio technica LP120xusb or Pioneer PLX 500

    • Have you considered a vintage one? Jump on Gumtree and search for turntables - if you're in a city there will be options. Look for stuff from the late 70s to early 80s, and search for the model on sites like Audiokarma to see what people have to say.

Most can be brought back to 100% functionality with a new cartridge and belt and often they can be taken to above the level of anything you will buy retail for a reasonable price. I've personally restored 3x Technics tables to full functionality for the cost of a new cart each, some DeOxit and one new belt.

Bonus, vintage tables often have auto-return and are made of more solid materials than new tables.

      • I reckon most here would be better served finding a bargain on new TT than negotiating the minefield of vintage stuff. They all seem so over priced these days, especially the low end of the market.

I'm sure there's the odd gem worth getting but there's also a lot of knowledgeable buyers waiting to snap them up.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of vintage turntables. I've had a few myself and bought some for mates over the last 10+ years, but I wouldn't recommend for most people.

        • Where would be the best place to start looking?

          • @YellowKnight: The problem is people say 'get a new one' but for a decent one you're looking at $400+ IMHO. Look at an entry level Project, Rega, Music Hall or a mid-level Audio Technica.

            • @caitsith01: If $400 is a problem for someone they probably should stick to streaming. It’s about the minimum price of entry, new or used.

All good options you listed there.

              • @watts: Well, my point was that you can definitely do well with vintage gear for a lot less than $400 if you do a little bit of homework and use a bit of patience.

                • @caitsith01: I understand your point, I just think you're understating the effort and risks but exaggerating the potential savings.

I would have agreed with you 100% ~5yrs ago but the resurgence of vinyl has just inflated 2nd hand prices while more new options flood the market. I don't think it's worth the effort any more, at least not for the uninitiated.

          • @YellowKnight: Ozbargain ;)

            Budget?

        • I reckon for $150-200 plus a new cart you can have a very good TT compared to a lot of new stuff.

    • you mean a turntable?

    • Good picks, I actually grabbed that Baroness album.
