Where to Buy Clothes as a Short Man?

Exactly how short? 166cm

My main priority is getting track pants that fit length-wise. My inseam is about 27" or 68.58cm.

I have tried mainstream brands such as Nike, Adidas, Puma, etc. The ones that do seem to fit are the Adidas Tiro Pants, Nike Soccer Pants, Boys Size 14 Nike Air Max Tech Fleece Pants. The problem I have with these is that the price is absurd, it is $75-$120 and I cannot justify track pants being that expensive. I do intend to buy these, it is just that I am waiting for stock availability online and a good cashback deal to lower the price and make it more palatable.

I have also looked into Women's track pants, however the ones I am looking at (cuffed ones) are often different to the men's ones and the fitting slightly does make it obvious that they are women's trackpants. I am open to looking into different brands though as I have not tried out many women's sizes.

I have also tried on Factorie/Cotton On XXS and XS Fleece Pants for roughly $30, even then the length is slightly long.

Would really appreciate it if someone has better luck than me finding economic track pants.

    Uniqlo?

    • tried already, track pants still too long

      • +4

How much do they charge for shorten it? they have inhouse tailor, usually free for work pants and jeans, not sure about trackies.

        • Don't have an issue with work pants an jeans, just trackies. Cannot get trackies altered cheaply, thats why its sort of a problem.

@thriftysach: According to Uniqlo website: https://faq-au.uniqlo.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/Alteration-Serv…
            How much is an alteration?
Available at any of our stores, we offer free normal lock stitch for selected UNIQLO pants priced $29.90 or more. For items priced less than $29.90 and for those requiring a blind stitch, only a $6 fee will be applied. Our alterations service only includes shortening the length of selected pants, and does not include tapering. This service is available at all UNIQLO Australia stores at the discretion of the alterations manager, including for pants ordered online.

Their online shop has smaller sizes available for some lines

    • I bought McKenzie track pants from JD sports and they were on special at $15 a pair at the time they are small made. maybe just need to register for specials https://m.jd-sports.com.au/men/mens-clothing/track-pants/bra…

Giordano. I bought one for $20 at Fashion Spree 2 or 3 years ago, wish I bought a bunch more, haven't seen them that cheap since. I'm about the same height. They fit perfectly.

    • Fashion spree livo?

      • +1

        Yeah, there's only one, right?

I went there recently and they only had sizes in weird (ugly) dark green ones, other colours were only XL. Maybe call them and ask if they'll get some more in soon?

        • Will do, thanks for the advice mate.

Have you had a look at kids sizes at Kmart/target/big w or even decathlon?

Amazon US will probably have something, they have that slider thing where you can set height and weight to get suggestions.

    • Have tried kmart/target/big w, havent tried decathlon yet, will be sure to give to see what they have next time I go around Tempe.

      Too long unfortunately :(

      • Not short…
        Short legs :P

Plenty of XS and S sizes in target and Kmart on all men's standard and clearance items in my area. I have a hard time getting L and XL but the other sizes are usually available.

    • +1

The XS and S at Kmart are too long unfortunately.

The cheapest cuffed track pants every year are at big w. Not sure about length but my husband has them and he’s not super tall (~175cm) slim with short legs. https://www.bigw.com.au/product/brilliant-basics-men-s-fleec… They also have women’s versions, but they are pretty generous in terms of width. Good luck!

My husband has the opposite problem & has noticed that there are alot of slim & tapered leg trackpants that are a shorter length this season. Have a look at ASOS and Bonds.

If you're not too fussed about brands, you can also try Lowes. My Mum worked there & mentioned that shorter statured men used to buy the boys school wear trackpants which were a better fit.

    • I've looked at bonds, have yet to try ASOS pants. Will also give Lowes a shot. Thanks for your response.

Try ALDI Special Buys - Mens Size S.

I have also looked into Women's track pants

I am pretty sure that is haram for you. 😝

ngl that was a really good one, had me laughing for half a minute

email snow white and see where she gets clothing for the boys…

  • have you had a look at mens 3/4 length trackies (capri trackies)? or would they be too short

    • I have a few 3/4 pants I wear as normal pants 😳😔…they are a tad short, but I don't mind.

    • I have never checked them out before but will be sure to try them on.

  • +2

Seriously, what is with mens sizing in Australia, you can get ten different sizes, and they're all the same length. I can get XS in kmart now after they changed all their sizes, and they're sometimes still baggy - and i'm not a skinny guy. Ridiculous.

Anyway, try H&M - one of the very few places i can walk into and get a 32/30 pants, and other clothes that actually fit without needing adjusting.
If you look at their size guide, mens might not be small enough for you, but the boys 14+ range looks like they have what you want.

  • It was suggested above, but with no reply, that you try the kids' departments.

    • I must have accidentally overlooked that part above.
With the kids' department, a lot of the time the length is alright but the top and the pelvic region is too tight.

Oh brother… I understand your pain. Try being a fat and short person like myself, makes it even harder. Don't even talk to me about shoes… Apparently my feet are too small for the smallest men's, but too large for biggest kids shoes. FML.

I see all these Big and Tall clothes shops… What about the Short and Stout shops??

    • +1

Check other brands because there is an overlap between youth and men’s shoe sizes. If there wasn’t there’d be a lot of teenagers that couldn’t buy shoes until they reached adult sizes.

What about the Short and Stout shops??

Have you tried teapot stores? :p

    • You can look at the extra wide shoes, however this gets harder if you are anything below a Size 7. You can also look at women's shoes, they seem to be alright as well as long as you aren't using the shoes for intense physical activity.

I luckily don't have a problem with shoes as I am a US 8.5-9 but have a family member shorter than me who is a US 6.5 and he really cannot find shoes from a normal store and has to thoroughly search for them.

  • +1

I feel ya! I'm shorter than you and shopping for clothes is a massive pain when 90% of shops don't sell anything that fits you.

For pants, I'm pretty much resigned to needing alterations.

For shirts, I find that Yd, Connor and ASOS sell clothes that fit shorter men. That or the youth section at Target etc. As ridiculous as it sounds, I had to buy a size 12 (!) jumper in the youth section, because the mens XS, youth 16 and youth 14 were all too baggy. Crazy.

    • Damn, chin up short king.

      Thanks for the advice.

  • +1

Just roll up your pants. That's what I do when it's too long. Or dont wear pants and wear shorts.

    • I already do that, realised I dont want to do it for the rest of my life and sought help from ozb.

      • fair enough, in that case either cut the length yourself or get someone else to do it professionally for you.

  • Muji.

How did you go fellow short ass?

I just got the small size Big W ones and for $8.50 they are not bad.

    • +1

Got the Adidas Size Small Tiro 21 pants and they are really good.

Anko Size XS in Grey are also decent.

Everlast Kids Size 14 fits too.

Nike Running Pants that are $75 at rebel also fit, I am waiting a a storewide sale + cashback to go on so I can buy those.

Have been very busy but going to head in store to try the uniqlo ones out.
I haven’t tried the Big W ones just yet but will do so once I have some free time.

      Good Luck mate!

      • Everlast Kids Size 14 fits too.

        Are you ~ 160cm tall?

        • +1

166cm. I know the website says 160cm but if I am getting cuffed joggers, I prefer them not sagging down. I also feel like manufacturers make them slightly larger. I tried both the size 16 and size 14, 14 fit me perfectly.
