Birthdays in May will be sent out at the end of the month

    • Hoping I get mine and can then use on a pre-order I've already made.

  • +24

    Birthday in April, stitched up

    • +18

You'll probably have more, don't worry.

      • Depends on what kind of experiments they're running.

    • I'm in the same boat. Feels bad, but hopefully this lasts at least a year then.

    • +2

Same. I'll bring the pitchforks if you bring the sandwiches?

  • Nice! Literally logged in earlier this morning to look at trade bonus and thought, damn this interface could use a facelift.

  • +11

Finally, something of value added to EB Games membership.

    • +1

Na they took away the birthday voucher

  • Finally!

  • Does anyone know what sort of carrot points you need to get to Level 5? the indicators only seem to go up to 9,500 for Level 4.

    • +3

"To qualify for Level V, you need to be one of the top 9,999 carrot earners by 1 September 2021."

      • So, this is like a new thing? You'll only know after 1/Sept/2021?

          • @ExtremeDavo: Interesting, I can't access that link

            • @sephiris: You must level 4 to see it

              • @Dienk: I am, though. I just get redirected back to my profile. No error message or anything. Strange

          • @ExtremeDavo: Weird, everybody can see the link but I cannot. What am I missing? I am want to check my name!

            • @Dienk: i can't see it either :/

              • @ChicoCochino: See update below

              • @ChicoCochino: Only Level 4 and current Level 5 members are eligible to qualify for Level 5

                • To qualify for Level V (5) you need to be ranked as one of the top 9,999 carrot earners by 31 August 2021. Your ranking is based on the amount of carrots you have collected since 1 September 2020.

                • On midnight 31 August 2021, the race concludes. The final list of members will be analysed and successful entrants to Level V (5) will be contacted in the weeks following.

                • The race resets on 1 September 2021 and concludes on 31 August 2022 for the next year.

                • Level 4 and Level 5 members are able to track their progress in the online leaderboard, sign into your EB World profile to view

                • The leaderboard displays your current ranking and eligibility for Level V (5)

                • Throughout period of entry, ranking and edibility will adjust every 24 hours based on carrots earned the previous day

                • -1

@Dienk: So a current LV 5 can become LV 4?

          • @ExtremeDavo: every time I visit the link it just pushes me back to the profile page. am i missing something?

            • @clockworkbenny: ye same here and im level idk where people got to see the leaderboard from the same link

              • @Jollystacker: I can't see the link either, goes straight to profile. Been level 4 for years so I don't know what the issue is.

      • +2

        Wow, the #1 is 56,624

That's a lot of cash to spend (or bad trades) for not much benefit..

        • +2

          Might be a scalper lol

        • that's crazy number, my lifetime total is only 15,000 points

          • @henrikoez: I'm 97k lifetime but only 3k since Sept 2020.

            Reason: Amazon.

        • +1

Eh there's some weird bonus carrots on clearance items sometimes. I picked up 4 T-Rex mugs as gifts once at $2 each and each of them came with 50 bonus carrots

          • +1

@Jonzay: They were probably 'EB Exclusive' mugs.

          • @Jonzay: Yeah i bought a little mermaid puzzle for my niece for $20 at christmas, looks like I got a bonus 50 for that too. Trade in dollars are effectively 2x points too. Preowned is 2x points. Just realised i Have 1500 odd points and haven't properly spent a single dollar there this year. all either trade in, or gift card from trade ins (which they give straight cash for trade in now anyway.

        • Looking at my points history a couple of $2 clearance Steelbooks all gave me +50 carrots for being EB exclusive items.

          Probably a reseller/scalper though :)

    • +2

Level 5 us unobtainable by the vast majority. As far as I'm aware, those at level 5 can be upgraded, but its kinda an arbitrary/luck system with people being selected yearly.

      • +1

It's reserved for those who have earned the most carrots in the one year period between each annual selection, not luck based
See response by former EB Game Employee

      • -1

You roughly need to spend over $2-3k a year there + trade ins to get it.

  • Hmm, I'm level 2 and I've got until December… This is doable.

    • +7

Spends hundreds of dollars at the largely inflated EB prices for a $10 voucher?

      • Well yeah, obviously.

        /s

If its a new initiative it might run a few more years before getting cost cut. I spend enough there through casual purchases or the occasional deal that it will eventually happen without me needing to do much out of my way.

  • +1

To qualify for Level V, you need to be one of the top 9,999 carrot earners by 1 September 2021.

Your ranking is based on the amount of carrots you have collected since 1 September 2020.

FYI - the lowest person on the list at rank 9995, has 3980 carrots.

    • So they've spent a couple of thousand. Gonna be some big spenders since Sept '20 because the new consoles dropped. Good luck.

      • Depends. Trade ins are double points. I got 1000 points just for my PS4 and a couple games.

    • Good thing back before the PS4 was released, I would go to every eb games store and buy whatever preowned ps3 game I haven’t had yet in my collection

    • Wow, I earned 7k carrots last week with the 50% bonus. I might have a chance then lol

      • You traded in $3500 worth of stuff?

        • Around 3k. Check the old topic I put the list there.

    • +4

It's actually quite easy to achieve if you buy your games digitally. Instead of buying my games directly from the online stores (Steam, eShop etc) I usually go to my local EB and buy the gift card for that platform so I can get carrots from those purchases. You can easily rack up carrots that way.

      • Can you confirm steam cards and eshop etc accrue carrots?

I've asked at a couple of stores and the staff didn't know.

Also wondering if the PS Plus subscriptions accrue carrots…

        • +1

They have always done so for me.

    • fk competing against 10k other people…..well good luck. Hahahaha.

      • Actually competing against many more than that. Most in the top 20K would be pushing for it I would imagine.

  • You can also go in to any physical store to get your free birthday edition EB World card :)

  • -2

Is this chain really just an overpriced bricks and mortar proposition? Do they offer value? I thought most people would buy online and only get specialised things from stores like this? BTW, I did use to shop there until I moved on to PC gaming, which is more my style.

    • +8

There have been good deals from time to time:

      • EB's PS5 and Series S|X pre-order + trade in old consoles, games, accessories was pretty good. I basically paid $50 for PS5 (I did trade in my PS4 Pro, extra controller, games etc…). For Series X, I paid $150 for the deposit and that's all (rest was via trade-in XB1X, extra controller and games). I actually saw the guy next to me walked out with $900+ EB world card (he did trade in heaps of games).
      • The birthday 50% trade-in bonus is quite good and if you combine it with the level up bonus voucher, that's a really good deal (ended up getting way more than I paid for the original games).
      • X-mas special games for $5-$10 (hard to get, due to being posted on OZB) are quite good. Played some of them quickly, traded them back in and got more credits than I initially paid for them.

Obviously, you need to be in L3 or L4 to get the birthday bonus. However, with the next gen console purchases and trade-ins, I basically went from L2 to L4.

      • Yep, plus one for this comment. There can be some good deals. I got my PS5 day one with no out of pocket expense by trading in my pro and a smallish collection of games I'll never look at again with the strong trade in bonus.

    • +3

I consider EB to be overpriced but have still managed to get to level 3 and about 6.5k carrots over the last decade.

I find occasionally they do have some decent sales, they do price match new releases and something like a console your paying the same RRP on launch as everywhere else anyway. Also I occasionally buy used games for my nephews cheap as well.

I never trade stuff in unless it’s a ridiculous deal as well, for instance a couple of years ago I traded in 3 broken PS4 controllers for 3 new ones for like $68…

    • Ocasionally they've got some good deals. The buy one get one free pre-owned game sale recently was pretty good. Got 2 first-party Switch games for $74 (which is a good price since they're usually $50+ each)

    • +1

We try do our best by the Australian gaming community! :-)

      • +1

Then, bring back 50% birthday bonus trade credit and the yearly Christmas bonus 200 carrots.

        • Has it stopped with this new deal? I used mine in March (50% bonus)

          • @freoleo: Can you see it in member benefits? I cannot. I only see $10 birthday voucher (which I am guessing is when you trade in a game).

Initially, I thought we get the voucher as well as the 50% bonus trade-in. Now, I am not so sure…

            • @netsurfer: It was paused due to our suspension on trades through a great portion of 2020, but it's definitely up and running. Check with your local store for more information.

              • +1

@ThePriceMatchGuy: So the 50% birthday bonus trade in offer is still there (even though not listed in member benefits) for L3, L4 and L5 members and we now get an additional birthday bonus voucher each year?

      • +1

so do you know the reason why some can see leaderboard and others dont ? I am lvl 4 and pretty sure I done at least 4000 carrots due to the new consoles and trading in most of my old console/games during Xmas

    • I did put emphasis onto my changing gamer habit from Console to PC, so that is where I am looking for value.
If EB can offer that I will look at it.
Some software companies do prefer to push the console versions of their games.

Hence https://gg.deals/ or https://isthereanydeal.com/ for me and my PC.

I always believe the motto from Choice to almost any advice out there, that you really can't rely on any points collection system, the discount in most retail sales has to be upfront, (or you really have to search for value/specials/clearance items).
So hence I prefer Aldi over WW or Coles except on certain items.

So with more web-based transfer and cloud-based means of games systems I am wondering if this model of business is still as relevant.

      • I did put emphasis onto my changing gamer habit from Console to PC, so that is where I am looking for value.

Don't even bother with PC anymore, the stores don't stock much PC games anymore. You might get just a single 1 meter or 50cm long shelf if that, just on PC games… The rest have been gobbled up by console games, peripherals and accessories and the occasional random loot and stuff.

    • The PS4 Pro trade in for PS5 last year was a no-brainer. Got like $440 just for the console. Considering eBay is now 13.5% fees, EB was just way less hassle.

I usually hoard a stack of games and trade in on my birthday voucher so I get the 50% + 20% (lvl 4) credit. Definitely come out pretty well most of the time.

I wouldn't trade in outside the 50% bonus specials though.

  • Didn't visit EB games for years …..
since there are always games deals from Amazon AU, catch, and Nintendo eShop (for switch)

  • +1

They added a level 5, good to know, I've had 2x lvl4 points for years.

Edit: Just saw the requirements are a rolling yearly amount, frig that.

  • Ok now I can see it, time to upgrade my wife's ebworld to level 5.

Currently at 3000 carrots since sept 2020 lol

  • -2

I have some friends that say about these kind of petty 10$ off, what you guys do with such 10$ 10$ offs? These are just a (bad cheap coffee) coffee or two's equivalent

Discounts or off at least worth 100$ is significant to signup

    • +3

      New here, huh?

      • yes buddy jon :)

  • Price match + $10 off? Otherwise no deal

  • +1

Anyone know the birthday reward for level 2? Went to member benefits page when I logged in and it only says ‘birthday reward’ but not what the reward actually is..

    • Would that be the extra 50% extra trade value voucher?

  • I'm at level 4. Worth setting up a 2nd account for the level up bonuses and a 2nd $10 voucher?

  • Birthday on 19th. will get at the end of May? Preorder Zelda then.

  • +2

You can change your birthday month by the looks of it…

    • +2

There is a 12 month waiting period to be eligible for the offer each time a Member changes their birthday through their EB World Profile

  • what page are you guys viewing to see your ranking?

    • There is a link up there but only 2 people can see it

    • Rank 2000+ yeay!

  • +1

link dosent work for me :( some others have the problem too it seems

    • You need to sign in to your account first

      • Needs to be level 4

        • +1

I'm on level 4 and I can't see it either.

          • @silverrat23: I think you need to be on it to actually have access?

  • +1

They removed the 50% trade in uplift for a pocket voucher. I cannot see how this is a deal?

    • -1

The 50% bonus was a one-week promo only.

This is still a deal regardless.

      • +4

No, he meant that the yearly 50% birthday trade-in bonus is now replaced with fixed value vouchers. If that's the case, it is not necessary better (it's actually worse for most people). The 50% bonus applies to all games you trade in when used.

People who were lucky enough to have a birthday on the same month as last year's pre-order + trade-in were able to double stack the bonuses. I guess EB is stopping that now. Same goes for the 200 Christmas bonus points (which stopped last year). The Christmas bonus points are handy to L1 and L2 members.

        • +2

The 50% off voucher is not replaced, I just learned. The $10 voucher is a bonus voucher, not a replacement.

  • +1

Wesbite says EB World is celebrating ten years…

Feels like a couple months ago I was at the Modern Warfare 3 midnight launch and they were pestering EVERYONE to sign up to this pointless new service. A decade later, and it's got me

A 10 buck voucher once or twice.
A means of keeping receipts backed up on consoles

I can't wait to see what the next ten years, a whole (profanity) decade, brings the service…

    • -1

I guess you'll know in a few more months.

      P.S. maybe get a CAT scan? :)

    • You also get better trade in deals if you , err, ever trade into any of the stores….but I guess the percentage is negligible.

      • -1

        Wrong.

The trade value dropped 20% overnight with the introduction of EB World, you need to use their card, and be level 4 at that, to get what you used to get.

It's like when your power bill says you save 30% by paying on time when what they're reallying saying is you won't get a late fee if you pay on time, people that fall for that always crack me up.

  • Lifetime i have over 19000 carrots but because i haven't bought much since last year i'm ranked 157600. Not much chance of getting to level 5.

    • Where did you see it?
