iPhone 11 or iPhone 12

Hi guys

I'm finally looking to make the switch from my iPhone 6 to either a iPhone 11/iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 12.

I noticed the Qantas points deal, however I only have 15,000 points which brings the iPhone 11 (128gb) down to $972.46. RRP is $1,079.

My question is whether I go for this deal or wait given we're approaching EOFY?

  • what the price you have found iPhone 12 for?

You’ve waited that much, just wait for the iphone 13

  • If it has to be those 2 models you probably want the 5g one.

    • I don't think that can be categorically said.

For instance, I'd much rather the one without 5g because there just aren't that many 5g cells I'm close to and I rarely need the extra speed and it does drain the battery life faster. If I got the 12, I'd turn 5g off anyway. In a few more generations I'm sure battery will be fine and roll out will be more ubiquitous and data needs will have increased, but for a purchase being made now, I don't think it makes sense to advocate for the 12 on that basis.

      • I'm in Canberra and a few months ago Telstra did something to our company plan and kicked us off 5g and we only got 4g. Jeez the coverage was bad… happy to be back on 5g after a couple of weeks

  • iPhone 12 is probably better long term as it supports 5G, 11s dont.

  • Depends if 5G is a priority. If not the 11 is the better option I reckon. Its Apple so you are unlikely to see better deals until the next model comes out.

wait until September and get the 12 after the price drop, which should be roughly at the current price of the 11

  • Dont pay with points. The points value at the Qantas shop is awful.
Buy the phone outright and spend your points on flights instead. You’ll save more money doing that with your points than getting like a >$100 discount with 15,000 points
