Those that received at least 30 responses are featured in our ratings.

Here are the best brands of frozen pizza in Australia, as rated by consumers in Canstar Blue’s 2021 review:

1) ALDI Casa Barelli
2) Dr. Oetker Ristorante
3) Dr. Oetker Papa Giuseppi’s
4) Coles
5) McCain
6) Woolworths

Dr. Oetker has had a loose reputation for being OzBargainers favourite frozen pizza. Although some users have mentioned the ALDI brand previously quite favourably in deal comments:

Elision

I stopped buying the Dr Oetker Ristorante ones ever since I tried Aldi's "Casa Barelli" and "Specially selected" pizzas.

cemenos

i prefer aldi's one and cheaper as well

I like the ALDI frozen pizzas but at this price be willing to give these a try :)

So 30 people could have voted for Australia's favourite frozen pizza?

    • +3

Yes it actually won on value, not taste as both Oetker and Aldi scored 4 stars for that.

      • +1

And when do Ozbargainers pay full price. It gets voted up only when they pay half price, which makes the value proposition equal or better.

BW we are not told what weighting is given to each category by Canstar. So if they give higher weighted points for value, then Aldi will have a better overall score. Choice at least shows the weighting of each category.

        • +1

Good point, Dr Oetker at half price ($3.95) is the same as ALDI at normal price ($4). So really it's about taste, ie they are about the same (4 stars ea).

          • @hamza23: How many grams are in each one?

            • +2

@Quantumcat: Looking at Mozarella variety, both Dr Oetker and ALDI are 335g.

Edit Spinach variety is also exactly the same, 390g.

  • Lol. I've known this for ages. Could have saved them all the trouble and time with their research. Losers.

      Frozen pizza hipster

I’ve never been impressed with Dr. Oetker’s. Don’t get the rage.

    • +2

The rage is it is edible and cheap.

But you know, probably better these days to get the $3 or $4 special pizza at dominos

      • It's really hard to go past Dominos for $5 when it's fresh and Oetker is tasty but needs more cheese and you have to cook it anyway….

      • +1

I don’t eat frozen pizzas often but I did look last night in Coles, the Dr. Oetker pizzas were $7.90 and the refrigerated Coles Loaded Supreme pizza was $5.

I got the Coles pizza which I’ll probably cook tomorrow, I’m guessing it will be leagues better than Dr. Oetker.

If Dr. Oetker is on sale for $3 or something I guess that would make it more appealing. Will have to try McCain’s and see how that stacks up sometime.

        • the frozen Coles ones are even cheaper

    • +1

The 'artisana' range isn't too bad, the 'restaurant' ones…not so much.

  • Dr. Oetker Ristorante has always been the most disgusting frozen pizza ever. It's worse than Doritos and spew cheese (Nachos).

  • I can’t even remember the last time I ate a Dr Oetker pizza. Not that eat pizza more than a few times a year but when I do it’s usually one of the Coles “fresh” pizzas that will be on clearance for <$2. Last one I got was a fancy oval shaped one, topped with cheese and salami, in the black box on clearance for $1.50. Tasted pretty good but left me feeling pretty bloated and unwell as pizza usually does.

  • Best taste frozen pizza to my buds is the ALDI 'International Cuisine' basic $3 range.

Base is nice and fluffy and the sauce is rich and not stingy. They come with enough toppings (for $3), but I still sprinkle more mozzarella on mine anyway.

    Cheap and tasty lazy meal.

  • Not a huge fan of Dr Oetker but do like their Dr. Oetker Artisana Pepperoni Pesto Pizza. Love the Aldi range, reminds me of what McCains Hawaiian used to taste like.

    • Agreed, but haven't seen the artisana range anywhere for a while now.
