  • Oh my god! I thought for sure people wouldn't receive it. I was too sceptical to buy it.

  • wow, now you need to verify it to be a legitimate ipad

  • legitimate - serial etc registered with apple.

  • Well done mate! nice spotting on the deal.

Is this just a whinge thread about the low number of votes?

  • Isn't the iPad 3 due in around a month or so?

    • That is not the point.

  • Picks or it didn't happen???

    edit: too slow, damn.

  • Cane from North Ryde?

All Ponzi schemes work for those first in.

Its still too good to be true, good luck to you, but something still doesnt seem right to me. I'm just not prepared to take the risk.

    • I can sort of understand that, but it IS true…

      at least so far…

      • Maybe this there plan. Sell it to a few first and convince ozbargain they are legitimate. Then in the next deal they will sell thousands but not go through with the deals.

          Thats a Ponzi scheme…

        • yeah
well if they are doing this
          they are a bit slow
they have deleivered a few this week, whirlpool users seem to be hooked on, a few high post people ave receieved it

so this weekend and early next week, if they ahve another buy one get one free, it might be sus!

Well it seems that slowing it down does make sense…you leak out a few at a time…I believe it is a bit sus for the following reasons

    1. Giving an Ipod Nano for the 'delay' seems over-excessive. They're already giving you a good deal as it is, why are they even bothered?
    2. Aren't the markup for apple products very low? Wouldn't two apple ipads for $750 (plus a nano) be below cost-price for anyone?

I mean congrats to OP for scoring this, but i sincerely hope this isn't the calm before the storm where innocent people get ripped off. If a company doesn't want to allow credit cards because of the overheads, they can just offer the customer a surcharge. Hell, I'd even pay a 5% surcharge if what they're offering is genuine.

  • This is taken from a whirlpool user…does this story seem extremely shifty? I've never called up and had the chance to speak to the CEO of a worldwide company who has over 300 people explain their business model to me…

"Son of baglimit, if a company wants to set up a scam with Paypal or Visa/mastercard then it is up to them to get through all the credit checks and what not that those companies will put you through as a result of becoming a merchant of their services. I am not a merchant, but I suspect that setting up as a merchant for these services will be about as difficult as it would be to obtain a $100k loan from the NAB or ANZ.
Good luck to you if you want to give it a go, but I suspect it would be very difficult to do so.

As for Jonathon, I can tell you he is very nice bloke and seems to be very genuine. I asked him a lot of questions about the business and the explanations all seemed to be legit.

This all came from Jonathon Webb. He is an ex Kiwi with no kiwi accent as he has been living in Oz since he was very young. He is passionate about Rugby Union and he also has an interest in Rubgy League. Yes they do sponsor the Wests Tigers in Rugby League.

Reason for delay ? Eglobal sell a lot of Ipads to their business customers through their IT servicing/consulting business. So they have an existing arrangement with their suppliers overseas and they buy Ipads in large quantities at very good prices.
They received a shipment in middle of January, but unfortunately the bulk of the order came in as wifi only models and they had to be sent back. As everyone knows, the Eglobal promotion was for 3G models and almost everyone had ordered 3G models. The new shipment has recently arrived and they are arranging to dispatch the rest of the orders. I got the feeling that everyone should be receiving their orders in the next few days.

Are Eglobal as big as they say ? Jonathon mentioned that they subcontract personnel to various firms and they currently have more than 200 people sub contracted. He mentioned something along the lines that they have 24 full time staff that service the business, although I didnt quite understand the specifics of that.

Why didnt Eglobal answer so many emails ? He said that they had answered plenty of emails but there were many emails that were not specific about their order and they wernt sure which orders some of the emails referred to. For eg, he said that some people had names like Song Ken Lee and yet their email referred to them as Ken only.

Are Eglobal making a loss ? Yes they are making a loss, but it is not as big a loss as I had suspected. He didnt give exact numbers, but I threw a few numbers at him and got the drift that they are losing maybe $50 per Ipad2 or thereabouts. Please don;t take this as gospel, this is only my guess.

So basically, if they had not received the incorrect order from their overseas suppliers in mid Jan, then no one would be complaining right now. To their credit, they did offer Ipad shuffle, $50 itunes vouchers or smart covers for the inconvenience. I received my smart cover tonight as promised. However, I am still waiting for my other order which should come tomorrow or Monday.

There is a whole lot more information that I got from Jonathon as I asked him so many questions. We also spent about 10 minutes talking about Ruby Union and Rugby League, even though my passion is more for the round ball game. I will try to post more info when I get a chance, but now I back to my Ipad2 and setting it all up. My Mrs will be setting the other one up at the sametime. I noticed 82% battery charge straight out of the box. And yes, they came with Australian plug in the box and Eglobal has paid GST on the order, unlike Kogan and DWI etc, who bypass the GST.

About the Eglobal website. Jonathon mentioned that their business customers use the website to order products and they apparently have auto links from their employer intranet (as apposed to internet) sites. I didnt understand it fully, but I got the feeling that they are able to link up with their employer platforms and order directly via their employers (ie, billings go through to their employer). This is why it is structured a little different to a full on retail website. Jonathon welcomed any feedback about their website, so please feel free to send them an email about how they can improve their website. They are trying to branch off into retail sales which is the sole reason for the Ipad2 buy one get one free promotion.

I mentioned to Jonathon that their is some feed back up on this forum already, but he mentioned that he only looks at it now and again. He also mentioned that he tried to post in this forum and his posts were shut down by the mods. So Eglobal are no longer able to post on this forum (thankyou mods). I must say that my own feeling is that I have noticed the mods are too hasty to close off and shutdown certain posts. But that is just my own feeling and not as a result of talking to Jonathon.

And finally, no I have not been paid off by Eglobal, and I do not have any association with Eglobal other than recently taking advantage of the recent buy one get one free promotion. On a refreshing note, I can say that it has easily been the deal of my life so far !"

    • As its always has and will be, Conmen have to be the nicest people in the world when running a con.

Every heard " he was a rotten so and so, thats why I bought from him" - or "He was such a nice guy that's why I felt I could trust him.

As for shipping back the wrong product. Couldn't he be able to cut a deal for a reduced price, where he could put those up on his website.

And yes he is losing money each deal.

      1. That confirms our suspicions that the price was below what could be bought.
      2. 200+ staff but uses serviced offices, what do the other 199+ do each day.
      3. A whats in it for him to sell these at a loss AND give another $50 value. This is NOT explained
      4. Then the comment here "the Eglobal promotion was for 3G models and almost everyone had ordered 3G models" Almost everyone ordered 3G. Well how did any one get to order a, wifi only model, when the promotion was for only 3G models.

His posts were shut down by the mods - Given this was from Whirlpool, I guess he means whirlpool as he hasnt been shut down from commenting here. And he has never indicated at anytime he is posting here under any name.

And given so many strange conflicting points being raised about EGlobal I guess the whirlpool mods are just being cautious, something we as mods here also try to be, hence our constant warnings

Look I may have to eat humble pie, but until I see regular shipments to many of our members I'll hold on that sort of pie for now.

      • The story will unfold, but thanks to people who ask the question we may know sooner. Now where are the really good internet detectives?

  • tru dat —- how do we know he isn't just shipping the ipads off to the first 50 customers but then scamming the next 9999999 customers? which business do you know will make $50 loss each sale —-> they will either make a profit or break even..this sounds sus as.

  • Did you get both orders or so far just the one?

  • While I too have been dubious of this, I would think being a major sponsor of West Tigers is a pretty huge effort to go to in order to pull an iPad scam. Take a look at the "major sponsors" at the bottom of the west tigers home page (though strangely there's no click-thru of their icon): http://www.weststigers.com.au/default.aspx?s=home-old

As I've said in one of the other posts, I don't understand this deal, the business case, the very strange and very direct contact with the the head of this company that some people have had. None of it makes sense, but assuming the company that is a part of this deal is a major sponsor of West Tigers, then it's hard to see them not being a legitimate organisation.
