Any comparisons to the Sony XM3/4 + Bose QE35?
I understand they may not be in the same league purely because of the price point, but everyone knows what the Sony and Bose are like, which is a handy benchmark.

I'm interested to know as well.

      I've used Bose for 10+years QC15/25/35.

Then went with the cheaper Sennheiser HD 450 for around $150-160.
Definitely not as good as Bose (in ANC, sound quality and comfort), but for half the price and short domestic travels (1-1.5 hours max), it's fine with me.

So, I own 1000XM2 and Bose QC 35II. I can give a comparision.

Both the above are over ear, this is on ear. Even though this is on ear, I found these to be extremely comfortable.
Yamaha listening care is basically ensure great sound experience at any volume. This is unique to Yamaha's based on their YPAO feature of AV receivers
Noise Canceling, no comparision with Bose and Sony. Because these are on ear, the passive noise cancellation is already great. The additional ANC the headphones provide, make it really effective.

The build quality is amazing on par with bose and sony.
Ambience mode is similar to Sony's. Unlike Sony, it is triggered by clicking the dedicated noise cancelling button.

The mobile app is basic similar to Bose, works well with the limited feature provided.

      • Awesome thanks for the review. Didn't even notice they were on-ear til you mentioned and I looked at the picture properly.

  • Very few reviews around that aren't just regurgitation of Yamaha's own press. The higher spec model YH-E700A has reviewed reasonably well so I guess if you're after a modern spec pair of mid-range ANC over-the-ear headphones with good battery life and some nice features from a respected manufacturer you could do a lot worse.

  • These dont look very portable, considering the pictures seem to only show them pivoting flat for storage

  • I'm sick of buying buds and callers complaining of not hearing me while driving. Are these any good

    • I just tested these after reading your comment. From my study room, I basically recorded my voice using mobile voice recorder and replayed it. It is crystal clear.
