  • This vs M50?

    • +1

M50 unless you really are on a budget

edit: although if all you are doing is Twitch tub streaming, then this is fine

    • The M50 is better spec wise, but it feels cheaper with fewer dials. It's more like the big brother of the M100/200. The grip is slightly smaller than the M6 too. All this made me choose not to get it after testing it at a shop. The M6 or M5 are older but feel more premium in terms of build quality and dials and can be found cheaper than the M50.

Should hold most of its value with all the aspiring Twitch streamers out there.

  • Based on the specs listing 24.2 megapixel sensor and the photo of the body, this looks like the original EOS M6, not to be confused with the EOS M6 Mark II.

I still bet someone will try to price match the two products after seeing this though.

    • MK2 looks totally different and is more than twice the price, would be great if anyone gets lucky though

  • I wanted a silver metallic point and shoot.

How would this be vs a sony rx100?

    • +1

RX100 actually does a lot of things better, but it is twice the price. M6 gives you more flexibility with interchangeable lenses but versus it with the kit lens I'd say the RX100 is better - 4K, high speed shooting, EVF, wider aperture at the same focal lengths, etc

    • This is aps-c sensor vs 1" sensor on rx100.
You can change lenses on Canon to suit your photography style whereas on sony you'll get fired lens.
In theory you'll get better low light performance on canon but sony has been known to excel in their low light performance as well.

    • Not comparable this is a much larger sensor. The RX100 is a more compact camera with a 1inch sensor. This is probably a better buy especially when paired with a prime can produce beautiful images.

    • This isn't a point and shoot.

If you want a point and shoot for quick snaps, get the Sony.

If you want an interchangeable lens camera and to improve your photographic skills, get the Canon.

        No /s

        • :)

    • This isn't one of those small point and shoot digital camera if that's what your thinking

    • +1

Of course. Because serious photography (studio portrait photography, landscape photography, astrophotography, available-light photography) are all still things… and always will be.

Regardless of the sensor - digital or silver on cellulose film - the quality of the photo can depend on how big the hole the light comes through is coupled with the focal length from such a hole to the sensor

      Such a hole in my 105mm Nikor prime lens @ F5.6 is ~ 16mm Ø, focusing light from a 52mm Ø aperture onto a 24.1 MP sensor.

The equivalent hole in my Realme 7 5G to the 52 mm is ~ 4mm, focusing light onto a 48 MP sensor.

The Nikon sensor offers three times 4K resolution. The Realme sensor offers 6 times 4K resolution.

With a lucky bee photo taken with the Nikon @ f5.6 [ not quite as sharp as the traditional Nikon sweet-spot of F8], displayed @ 4k on a 32" monitor, you can clearly see individual hairs, and if you zoom to 300%, pollen grains are individually identifiable.

Try the same thing on your super camera phone shots, and you'd better bring a bucket.

As for simplicity of use, set your aperture to 5.6, choose 1/125 [cloudy] or [1/250] [sunny] and you've got yourself a Kodak Brownie with a wide choice of lenses, then just dial the ISO up or down to get a range of film speeds film photographers couldn't have imagined possible, even if you never bother with the multitudes of options available from the computer dedicated to do one job, and do it really really well.

That way you can concentrate on the photo, rather than the mechanism - as one may imagine you can do with a smartphone. Changing settings on the fly once you have taken the initial trial shot? I'd suggest the camera might be a bit easier, rather than poking at touch-sreen, although DSLRs/MIrrorless units from the major manufacturers offer that option for people taking snap-shots or those not botherd with setting menu options for the manual wheels/buttons.

    • Guess what, film cameras are still a thing!
      Holy shiiiiiiiit!

      • Put your phone down and pay attention in class

  • I got excited for a moment thinking that it is Mk II.
Still a good price if you already have costco membership and want that camera.

  • How's the AF on these guys? When Canon entered the Mirrorless market most of their models had dog slow AF, is it any better now?

  • -1

    no 4k
i really wanted to buy this, but no 4k :(

    • +1

That tends to happen with 4 year old entry level cameras

  • Get a Sony if you want 4k and good AF. Actually, anything apart from the EOS M series. They have only recently figured out AF.

I hear the Panasonics are also damn good!

    • At this price range, is there a good Sony available with 4K video?
Panasonic, in this price range, you cannot expect dual pixel auto focus.

The main attractive part of this is dual pixel AF and maybe the price. 1080p does feel dated.

    • The Eos M series from shortly after the original eos M has great AF, with Canon's Dual Pixel AF being on top of the pile until recent years.

But as someone who has an Eos M and Eos M5 (which is this M6 with a viewfinder) and a bunch of EF-M, which served me very well until i moved on, it feels a bit dated and I would be hesitant to buy one and jump into the EF-M ecosystem which is essentially close to end of life as far as I understand.

  • Great travel camera!
