BeyerDynamic Fox USB Microphone $149 (Was $299) + Delivery (Free for Syd, Melb, Bris & Can) @ Mwave

70

Mwave have a pretty decent discount going on this USB microphone.

Usual price seems to be $299, but PCCG seem to have the same mic for $100 off. As for other stores, here's the staticICE page for this mic.

At Mwave, Delivery is free at the moment for orders over $100.

Here's a review from SoundGuys, and here's a review on YouTube that gives an idea of sound quality.

As for me, I'm still deciding whether to pull the trigger on this one :)

  • Could you use this for Teams meetings and to what extent would it pick up outside sounds?

    • +2

If you want to avoid picking up ambient noises, avoid cardioid condenser microphones. Dynamic microphones usually do much better.

      • This right here.

      • Thanks. I found this article. It agrees with you but suggests that you need to be a lot closer to it than a condenser mic. There won't actually be much ambient noise in my room for the mic to pick up so maybe a condenser mic is fine for me. Just one thing, why won't the mic pick up the noise from my speakers (the voives from the other meeting attendees)?

        • The noise doesnt have to be in your room. It can be outside, or in another room completely, If your neighbours are noisey enough then it will pick up them talking. Washing, dishes, someone coughing outside, the lawn mower across the road etc. Cardiod are super sensitive BUT you can use software options such as a noise gate (usually built in to programs like teams, discord etc) which wont allow the mic to transmit sound under a certain threshold. People have issues because they dont know how to use the hardware/software in most cases a dynamic mic will be better but it has to be pretty close to your mouth where as a cardio can be on the desk half a metre away etc. Please do every one a favour and dont use a cardiod with speakers.. use your headphones…. it will definetely pick up the voice in the speakers and create feedback/echoing and is irritating for anyone. A dyanmic mic is less likely to do this but it is still pretty inconsiderate. Make sure you get a USB mic as you will need extra equipment such as XLR cables and a audio interface in some cases doubling the cost of mic.

          • @bargone: Thanks for the info. If I need to use headphones then I may as well stick with my headset mic. I just wondered if I had an option to go headset free.

  • Great microphone for mids focused recording. Warm sound if you're into it. It's built like a tank. Even gets the thumbs up from Z review. But I'd avoid for lack of gain control - I think that's a big factor to consider when podcasting and streaming.

  • I was ready to pull the trigger but it looks like the MWave price is now up at $199 :(
