Buying All-in-One Desktop from USA Memorial Day Sales, Ok to Use in Australia?

Hi guys, I'm after a AIO PC for work from home zoom meetings, and some light gaming, and this HP Pavilion 24-k1305st from HP USA website looks to be a good deal with 11th gen Intel i5 and MX350 4GB graphics at USD$999 (A$1300). Shipping with AustPost Shopmate + GST probably adds $200 more for a total of A$1500.

Would I be able to buy a generic AU adapter and use the PC in Australia? Links suggestions welcome.

Also, I have hit up the usual JB hifi, Dell, HP, Lenovo AU websites for their EOFY deals but they are pretty disappointing. I'm guessing there isn't any better local Australian AIO deals around $1500 with a 4GB discrete graphics, before I pull the trigger on this? Ta.

EDIT: So I decide to look locally and came upon the OptiPlex 7480 All-in-One Desktop for $1650. Any idea if the 10th gen Intel i7 integrated graphics is good enough to play COD/BF, LoL, Starcraft, Counterstrike source? Cheers

  • There should be no issue providing the PSU can detect that it's 240v and not 110v. The older PSU's had a switch on the back.
In any case just ask the store if the PC can work here in Australia (240v).

As the value of rh item is over $1000 you will have to pay import duty as well not just GST. When you add up all the additional costs and lack of a local warranty I doubt this would end up being a good deal.

    • Australia has a FTA agreement with the USA, so providing the unit was assembled in the USA there will be no duty payable. There will however be import processing fees payable in addition to GST

None of the Dell + LOVEKENEAU code tickles your fancy? The Optiplex AIO are pretty good.

    • Just tried the LOVEKENEAU code on a Dell AIO, it didn't work :(

Maybe because I've spelt Keanu wrong….oops. Try again.

EDIT: actually ignore me, the Dell's eBay store doesn't have any Optiplex AIO's in stock.

    $999USD +tax
Advertised USA prices don’t include all additional charges and tax until checkout.

    with a 4GB discrete graphics

No. That's not what an MX350 is. It's not going to be able to play the latest games, except maybe on the lowest settings (and not above 1080p or 60FPS).

To give you an idea, the decade-old R9 280x in my old PC my kids use is almost twice as powerful.

    • Just playing the odd Counterstrike source, COD, Starcraft, is the MX350 good enough? I guess the AIO form is limiting but thats what the missus wants for our home.

Have you thought about just mounting a mini-PC onto the back of a VESA enabled monitor?

A Ryzen APU will easily handle CS:GO and COD Warzone (on lowest graphics settings).

        Example

        https://www.asus.com/au/Displays-Desktops/Mini-PCs/All-serie…

It'll set you back $680 for the Ryzen 7 4700. with eBay Plus. Barebones unit so there's no RAM or storage installed.

You will need to add your RAM ($110-ish), storage ($100-ish) and a OS (less than $15 if you know where to look)

      • thats what the missus wants for our home

Yeah, but when she said that, did she know it was double or triple the price of a desktop/monitor combo?

        That may change her mind.

Just get a better desktop and screen from Australia for cheaper. AIOs are almost never the best solution.

Second hand ones are SUPER cheap with wifi, Bluetooth, etc that normal desktops often don't have. Then if you consider they often have decent screens the value proposition starts to look pretty good. Some of the old ones are easy to upgrade ram and storage too.

But buying new they are pretty bad value.

    Don't do it
Not worth the delivery, customs and warranty hassle.

    • Which Call of Duty/Battlefield? The latest titles definitely won't work. Probably the original Modern Warfare series (2007-2011) and older will be ok
Rest of the games listed should work fine

    • You're not going to play any of the recent Battlefield or Cod on Intel iGPU. Also single channel memory.

"Light gaming" and "COD/BF" do not go together, unless you're playing older versions. Minimum recommended for BO Cold War is a dedicated 1650.

Why not get a monitor and a cheap gaming laptop? For $1500 this laptop will crap all over the desktop you listed - https://online.acer.com.au/acer/store/gaming/gaming-laptops/… - then just plug it into a screen/mouse/keyboard. Probably far cheaper ones out there too, this was just the first I stumbled across.

I think you need to work out what you actually want. Do you want a cheap AIO PC that doesn't take up much space? Or do you want a cheap PC that plays modern shooters?

You can't have both unless you remove the cheap part.
