Where Can I Find Penfolds Bin Wine on Sale?

I'm newbie with wine but my partner is in love with Penfolds Bin range with bin number from 100 up. Wondering has those ever been on good sale in bulk (like at eofy, boxing day,…) and if yes, there can i find those sales?
Or please advise something with similar quality but less expensive?
Thank you.

i suggest you give your partner a blind tasting and see whether they can tell the difference between a sub $50 and above $100

Perhaps it is the label they love, a bit like loving Apple products

      • true, i doubt he can tell the difference. Perhaps i should put another wine in the Bin bottle :))

I've purchased quite a few of the bin releases on sale from Dan Murphy's at 50-75% off. When the new releases are issued and they usually put the previous years on clearance as they don't have enough shelf space.

    • May i know is it still on? just checked Dan but seems it's back to normal? Or should it be in Clearance area?
Do you know how often they have new releases issued? Thanks.

      • I find them in the clearance area in store. Not advertised.

This stuff is rarely on sale except the really cheap penfolds - i.e. bin 28 or anything under $40 or so.

The ones at the $75+ to $150 odd range (i.e. bin 389/407 up to RWT) will actually go up in price over time. They will sometimes get a small discount briefly but it's not common.

If your partner enjoys a dense shiraz with balls RWT is wonderful, but quite pricey.

For under $100, the Bin 389 (cab shiraz) or 407 (cab sav) are very consistent performers.

For $100 or thereabouts, St Henri (I don't think it gets assigned a bin number) is generally very good.

There are a load of really top shelf wines at the $100-$150 mark. My personal fave is the Wynns riddoch cab sav - it's always amazing and much easier for most people to enjoy as it's a lot more fruity / not as dense as shiraz.

    Hope this helps!

    • very helpful. good knowledge. thanks.

    • oops, accidentally post twice & don't know how to delete.

Get her to try Wolf Blass Grey Label - she may be surprised at the quality vis-a-vis Penfolds

Some of the Wynns premium labels also. In short, there are many comparable quality wines for less money.
Penfolds is the Apple of wine - expensive for what it is, but pretty consistent.

Maybe keep an eye on any good cashrewards deals. I got a couple of Bin 389 recently from Boozebud, and with the cashrewards and Amex deals together I ended up paying just over $50/bottle. Same thing with First Choice Liquor, bought a few of St Henri 2014 when the cashrewards deals were on with other deals (10% off, bonus flybuys points, Amex cashback). About a mouth ago Dan Murphy's was selling a case of RWT 2018 for $740 but I was too late, I ended up getting just one bottle from boozebud with the cashrewards and Amex deals. I guess you just have to keep an eye on any good specials on ozbargain.

    • great way. thanks. i'll look into it.
