Thanks OP, good timing on this deal as the battery on my old one has worn out from jump starting my nipples 5-6 times a day.

    • How long did you it last?

      • +1

        those clamps must hurt

    • +5

Lost count how many times you have used the same nipples joke on jump starter deals…

      • +1

hahaha was thinking the same thing

      • +1

        Joke?

  • +1

Have one of these and it has been fantastic for the two times the battery on our car died.

  • Own one of these as well and they are awesome. Was able to jump-start twice on a single charge
Comes in a nice carry case
    Built in flash light too
Definately a great investment especially if on sale.

  • got this couple of years ago in a previous deal. still going strong. good jump starter. highly recommend

  • This vs the 2000a version? Worth the extra $30 to get the 2000a version?

    • I think you need to provide more context. What is size of the car you have? No point getting a 2000a when you have a super small car.

      • I have 4cyl sedan and 6 cyl suv. So I'm assuming the 1200a should be sufficient just based on numbers and stats.

    • Definitely get the 2000a version.

    • Don't confuse peak amps for CCA.
Also, its ability to deliver its rated amps will go down as the battery discharges or ages.
I bought the 4000a version for my 2L 4 cylinder car.

  • I've often wonder if these portable lithium ion jump starters are safe to keep in the car.

There have been reports of them (not sure of brand/models) catching fire.

I purchased another OZB favourite, the CTEK MXS5.0 to look after my battery so hopefully won't need a jump start.

    • I just bought the MXS5.0 today as well

    • CTEK MXS5.0

Thanks to the CTEK trickle charger my last car battery lasted almost 8 years even when I didn't drive the car all that often during winter periods.

The only issue I have with this device now is that the buttons don't work any more. It is permanently stuck in CAR and RECOND modes.

      • Yeah my button seems on the way out on this model also.

      • +2

Check to see if it's under the 5 year warranty.

CTEK's customer service is fantastic, perhaps they will help you out even if over 5 years.

    • There have been reports of them (not sure of brand/models) catching fire.

Don't keep them close to direct sunlight or heat to start with.
I couldn't find any reports of them catching fire from a quick google search.

Here's one that comes to mind. https://www.nbnnews.com.au/2019/04/06/portable-battery-pack-…

Issue is on a Summer's day the interior can reach 70 degrees.

I do think it's a very low risk but a risk nonetheless.

        • Here's one that comes to mind.

          Watched the video. Pretty horrifying.
Cause: "Portable jump starter kit sitting on the front sit of the car" during a hot summer day.

This could also happen to a smartphone battery if subjected to sufficient heat for a prolonged period of time.

      • I gave up on these lithium battery packs, I have the red 2000A gooloogoogaga one (GP2000) and it already has the terrible lithium liquid stench from a few warm car days.

Grab an super capacitor type jump starter instead and don't deal with Lithium temperature sensitivities.

    • Same, and no plans of keeping it in the car or near heat, just in the garage and connect once a week to keep the battery in good health. I don't think I need it wanted a jump pack. $80 seemed like a great deal from eBay plus

  • GP2000(*) is the "sweet spot" buy.

    (*) Buy during sale.

  • These are great - not only for emergency starting but I use them for powering my Engel on long trips. I'm going to get another one, which will make 3. 1 for emergencies, 1 for the fridge and 1 charging. Great also for use camping on unpowered sites.

    • Other than maybe charging a mobile phone, what other use would it have from a camping perspective ?

  • +1

    Thanks OP bought one

  • Glad I got the 2000a version for $98.99 last year. Amazon Day thingy is coming up, so I'd maybe wait?

    • Junk, I have one.

  • Question is why aren't car batteries using lithium tech instead of lead acid if they're so great.

    • +1

      Costs.

Don't work as well when temperature drops.

      Costs.

Lifespan of battery compared to lead acid.

      Did I mention costs?

There are super cars that run use lithium due to the weight savings (they use a different alternator). Costs and lifespan aren't an issue on a supercar.

    • I agree with you BUT…. any place that sells one of these lithium car batteries will be:

      1. Not close to where you live normally, so it's an online order from interstate. Any warranty claim will be a drama

      2. They are only willing to provide a basic 1 year warranty, for all their magical powers which they will claim about a lithium car battery. How can that compete with a 36-40+ month warranty for trusty lead acid?

thanks OP, got one for my 00 Camry, back up to my RACQ which I have only needed to call once in 13 years
