Great price for this model. New Kayano 28 due for release this month. Seems to have some improvements. I’ll be holding out.

I hope they improve their shoe laces. For the past 5 years the shoe laces on the Kayano and Nimbus have been rubbish. They wear away and eventually break.

      • I have a MetaRun which I was told it's basically a Kayano with more colour options. Couldn't really tell in what ways the MetaRun/Kayano is better than my previous Ultraboost, but apparently Asics is so much more popular than any other shoes.
What's really special about it? How tight you guys normally tie the laces? I'm just thinking if there is a chance that I haven't been wearing it correctly…

        • Yes I do mine up tight as I don't like my ankle to roll around in the shoe when I run.

          • @D1977: Thanks I see, I will try. When running on the streets, those uneven footpath is quite damaging to my ankle and muscle.

  • Hmm, do I wait for the Kayano 28s or buy a new pair of the 27s. Not often I see my size + 4e for sale and in stock.

    • +10

How much better can the 28's be? Also you're talking about $150 vs. what will be RRP for the 28's at $260 (and you can use SUNSUPER15 code to get 15% off). Still $150 vs. $221. To me it's a no-brainer, get the 27's now.

28s are a pretty big change. If you can find them, the Kayano Lites are a totally different shoe in philosophy and design, and really well reviewed.

      • +2

Exactly, big price difference for pretty much the same shoes.

Sportswear companies refresh their shoes every year, and the best thing about new releases is — last year's model is now on sale :)

  • what is the different between size width B, D, 2E, and 4E?

    • +2

For Men, Available Widths: D=Medium, 2E=Wide, 4E=Extra Wide
For women, Available Widths: B=Medium, D=Wide

You can see this on the Running Warehouse site

Beautiful. Picked up another pair to rotate. Cheers!

You can never have too many running shoes. I just bought a pair of 27s too.

      I currently have:
      1. Kayano 25s that I just started to use this month for my running
      2. 2 x Kayano 25s I use as casual shoes
      3. Nimbus 21s I am yet to take out of the box
      4. Saucony Guide 13 I use as casual shoes

I run 12.5km almost every day so go through shoes every 4 - 6 months. Maybe I should also run in 2 alternate shoes and rotate them on different days.

      • +4

General recommendation is to alternate if you're running consecutive days. Apparently it gives the midsole time to fully recover from the compression it's put under during a run.

      • +2

As above, rotate every second day and you will get better than double the life out of the shoes. I found this especially where I was using my cricket runners for other walking and exercise, I would go through a pair in a season. Since only using them for cricket, I have got around three years out of a pair and they're going strong.

        • +1

I've only just started running and I'm curious to know if you felt a difference or were able to visually tell that they were done?

          • +2

@miicah: I've got fairly wide, flat feet, so I usually find new shoes to be quite tight - which I like because I feel it keeping me stable. As the shoes are worn in, they're comfortable, and as they age, they get loose around the bottom.

Depending on how you run or what you use them for, you will wear them at a certain point. If you don't give them a break, that will just wear away faster. For example, with my cricket shoes above, there is a certain point that you drag your feet in cricket. When using them every day, there was a lot more wear in this specific spot.

It's all something to do with the largely synthetic materials used, if they don't get a break, the materials don't 'reset' properly and thats when damage from frequent use occurs.

            • @pdtmathieson: As someone starting to get into fitness this thread has been amazingly useful. Thanks for being so helpful!

@worrierd420: No worries - OzB is a terrific resource for this type of thing. These Kayano deals tend to attract all of the running nutters so filled with good info. Also the occasional person who wears Kayanos as a casual shoe…

If there is a shoe you like, go through all the old posts about that shoe, gives you a gauge on price, general fit etc. I followed the deals on these https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/361australasia.com and have been very happy with them, although the AU store appears gone.

Ask what you want to know on a post and it will invariably get answered, you will probably be too late for that deal but you will know for next time it comes up.

                  you called? ;)
i walk quite a lot, both indoors (shopping centres) and outdoors (footpaths of various quality and often off-path). kayanos are easily my favourite shoe for its stability and ankle support. once it's been broken in, the cushioning is just the right balance between too firm and too soft. the only downside is the durability. while the upper is still almost like new (i painted the midsole black so i was very careful not to scuff them), it was the mid and outsole that showed the first signs.

you're right about rotating the shoes — i started on my 25s in July last year and around Feb/March this year noticed the forefoot outsole was almost bald.

to answer miicah's question above: you'll know when you start seeing creases in the midsole and between the outsole rubber pods underneath the shoe. personally, i know when a shoe is on its last legs when i start getting callouses on the balls of my feet again, along with occasional minor foot pain after a really long walk.

              • @worrierd420: jump into r/running and r/runningshoegeeks on reddit. Way better effort than the ridiculous stuff you'll often read here :)

  • What is the cheapest item available on the store to take the total over $150 and avail free shipping?

    • +2

Strap yourself in. I'm a man and I bought a $5 pair of women's socks. I'll wear them around my home although the black I got could technically pass as men's socks. I wouldn't be able to get away with the pink ones :-)

      • Thanks, will buy the pink ones for my daughter.

thanks bud! just picked up a new pair as my 23's are almost at 1000kms :/

  • +2

Thanks OP got one. After getting used to these shoes, I cannot go for any other shoes based on the comfort these shoes provide (owing to my feet problems).

If I have to say one negative, its maybe their longevity is not that great. I keep changing once in 6 months with average use.

    • How are you wearing them out? What's average use?

  • I had my eyes set on the Nimbus Lite 2 with some of the recent Asics codes but there are none in my size sadly :(

  • Was lucky enough to find all black in size 11, pulled the trigger!

    Can highly recommend the Kayano's!

  • My last pair (GT1000s) are still in the cupboard because I decided I would "only wear them to actually run".

But I had my eye on these as well. I had my rotation plan set out.

Got some anti chafing cream to get past the shipping.

I think my optimism exceeds my real life….. finish sentence later.

This or Adidas ultraboost dna4 more comfortable for walking (not running)?

  • Looks like they've removed the code now, I get "Invalid Coupon Code" on checkout.

  • "Invalid Coupon Code" also :(

  • I moved from Kayano to Ultraboost a few years ago because of deals available and even though the Ultraboost last longer they have never felt as good as the Kayanos.
Went to get 2 pairs of Kayano's now and got the error "Invalid Coupon Code".
Tried on my phone and the code added but was titled "25% off Asics - Discontinued" and gave $0 discount.
    I guess I missed out.

  • Damn. Missed out on coupon. Good deal though.

    • +1

Try SUNSUPER15 for 15% off. I know what happened - PACE25 code was working on Asics when they were full price. Looks like I kicked off a buying frenzy and they caught onto their error, so stopped the PACE25 code from working when they are $200. Use SUNSUPER15 to get 15% off instead, that still works.

With that said, they better ship my order with the PACE25 code. They have already charged my credit card so I will jump up and down if they cancel my order.

      • +1

FYI, just got a shipping notification for mine - although the description says 25% off discontinued, discount was still applied. I got in before they withdrew the discount.

        Product Name Ship Price Total
        ASICS Gel Kayano 27 Men Shoe Blk/Blk 1 181.77 181.77
ASICS Elastic Lace Kit One Size Black 1 8.14 8.14
        25% OFF Asics- Discontinued 1 -45.44 -45.44

        • Purchased a pair using PayPal and received confirmation from them but no shipping confirmation yet. Hopefully they honour it instead of a refund.

        • I assumed "25% OFF Asics- Discontinued" meant discontinued shoe line. But maybe not.

I got through too, yay, but it did pop up and say "invalid coupon", then it applied 25% off anyway.

        • I placed my order before I posted this deal. Got the email confirmation that the order was being processed and my credit card has been charged but no shipping email yet. I hope they honour the price.

        • +1

I got my shipping notification last night so looks like they honored the 25% discount code for my order. Happy with that.

      • Thanks. I did leverage this 15% instead. Around $170 delivered seems good to me still. Cheers.

  • Is there somewhere in Sydney I can go to get sized well so when one of these deals comes up I know what size to get?

Is it the same as normal shoes or running you need different ways of sizing?

    • +1

Asics store in QVB. They also have a treadmill hooked up to a screen to tell you how you run and what shoe is best for you.

      • Hopefully they charge for this service to prevent people misusing them as a free library…

    • athletes foot too

  • Managed to get a pair in 4E! Thanks D1977!

  • Damn missed out. Good deal though!!

  • +1

Damn, I was just about to purchase a pair. Anyone got another 25% code?

  • 27’s definitely haven’t been my favourite.
I’ve got dents in the toe box of both shoes that rub against my big toes. Stupidly thought it would get better once they were worn in rather than returning them.
Have seen others complaining of the same issue.

  • Expired. I emailed them asking why the code PACE25 is not working for me, sent them screenshots of whats happening. They did not get back to me but I can now see that the discount code shows "25% OFF Asics- Discontinued" when you goto the checkout. Before (in my screenshots) it said "25% OFF Asics".

  • Awe man I've been holding our for these. I need like 3 pairs (for different family members)

  • Mine got delivered today! I only selected "standard shipping" but delivered on a Sunday :\
