Samsung Q Series HW-Q900A 7.1.2 Channel True Dolby Atmos Soundbar $970 (Was $1490) + Delivery ($0 QLD C&C) @ Videopro

230

First deal post.

Have been waiting for this release to update to a new sound bar. Stores have just in last week or so recieved stock. Video pro have it for $970. Got this price matched at JBHIFI, manager said this is slightly below cost. Used my 15% gift cards as well!

The Q950t and Q900t get pretty good ratings and was my favourite sounding, sound bar.

    Great first post.

Just a note that this is $955 for those with access to TGG commercial.

    • Cheers, don't have it unfortunately

  • Can imagine this would sound awesome. I have an older model and its pretty damn good

The main difference between the high end (Q950T and Q950A) T series(last year) and A series (This year) is that in the new series, rear speaker has 2 additional side firing speaker drivers and ATMOS sound calibration function. However, there is hardly any difference between Q900T and Q900A as these do not have rear speakers. The specs look identical. I am not sure whether Q900A has ATMOS calibration.

The Q900T is currently sold for ~$800 at JB Hi-FI

    At HN its $795

You saved my time. I have been searching for the different between 900a and 900t after seeing this post.

Btw cheapest I found for 900t is $765 at appliancecentral.

      • If you ever want to add atmos rears i think you will need the 900a otherwise should save a bit with the 900t

        • However, the ATMOS rear will only have 2 channels each. Not 3 channels as found in (950A). You can also add rears to 900T but it will be one channel each. I am not sure whether you could add 2021 rears to Q900T.

  • How well do these compare to a traditional set up with independent speakers?

    • +1

If you have the space go individual speakers.
Soundbars are a compromise in one way or another

      • I have the space. Thanks. I just see the rave reviews over and over saying how these are great and all and it has me on the fence.

For the minimal space and lack of cables etc yes they have come a long way
          So yes they sound great.

But not compared to a dedicated system

I have a dedicated theatre room with 5.1.2 setup. This system is for the lounge room. Got to say pretty impressed with this bar. Don't have the space for rears atm so thats lacking, but great system.

I had an independent 5.1 speaker setup and decided to change rooms for the lounge room. The new lounge room had an opening between the seating and the wall with the TV mounted. This meant cabling for the rears was going to be painful.

The wall-mounted TV was so clean with no cabinet, AMP and wires so decided to get a wall-mounted soundbar too. I got the Q950T with the rear wireless satellites due to all the rave reviews. Completely blown away by how good this is for surround sound in movies, it's far superior to the 5.1 setup we had but to be fair the Yamaha amp from the 5.1 setup was around 10years old and did not support some of the newer sound formats like Atmos so it's not a like for like comparison but for me, it was a major upgrade from our 5.1 independent speaker system.

    • I had a good Samsung soundbar and subwoofer set up but was never happy with it playing music. I switched to the Sonos Amp and B&W 607 S2s and it blows the soundbar out of the water for music and is marginally better for TV.

  • Does this model still have that fabric finish?

    • Yeah same fabric finish and the LED indicator is still on top of sound bar.

      • I still don't understand why they can't have the led at the front.

        • They've used the same body of the soundbar that is why they still have it on top. It might be possible by next year they change the design of the soundbar.

  • Anyone know how to make Alexa work on this one? I just purchased this from TGG commercial but can't figure out how to make our work. Thanks

    • I had this one before, Alexa is not working if you ask her to play Spotify. That is why I need the TV app Spotify to play music. The sound is good compared to LG SN11RG.

  • How's this compared to the Bose? Have a mate who just bought the Bose and swears that nothing comes close.

  • If you're in Vic and interested, Appliance Central has for $999 delivered. I got Appliance online to price match. Bought yesterday got it delivered this morning at 10am

  • The 870A is $990 at VideoPro as well.
Does anyone have any info as to sound quality difference between this (the 900A) and the 870A?
