I will "move on" when it suits me - not when dictated by you !!

  • They all depend on who your providers are, how much Internet you need, will you be home 24/7 etc etc.

I trust my reply will be useful or beneficial to your purpose.

Don't forget to include the actual rent bill too.

I hope this was constructive but either way I'm moving on.

Average Electricity Bills by Household Size

Water - Not much as you only pay for usage
Internet - check Internet Providers for suitable plan
Gas - The daily supply charge would be greater than the usage

Note: was not happy and I will move on.

  • Similar situation here… 2bedroom, 2 person, apartment but in QLD.

Power - $275/quarter (building purchases in bulk at discount)
    Water - $250/quarter
Strata (not sure if this applicable if I'm renting) - not applicable if renting.
    Internet - $59.95/month (TPG FTTB)
    Gas - ~$200/annually

    • Where you buy your gas! It's $160 a qtr for me and that's just for water.

Lived in Southbank/South Melbourne for 7 years, on top of rent there was:

    Electricity - Sub $100pm
Hot water (communal hotwater boiler which is common in large apartment buildings. this is charged by the litre) sub $100 pm
Internet was with Spirit (great, fast and cheap but only in certain areas). this was ~$50pm
Gas and water was included included in the rent but like the hot water this would be dependent on the building.

Add in $50-$100 additional each month for higher usage, paying month in advance or miscalculating and you should be ok. Strata is landlords responsibility along with any maintenance.

  • Power - ~$90pm
    Water - $250 per quarter
Strata (not sure if this applicable if I'm renting) - N/A
    Internet - $60 per month (TPG 100/25).
    Gas - N/A.

    Some factors you may consider:
    - If you do not own a car, you can rent out any carspots you have for a decent amount. At least $150 per month assuming you're relatively close to city.
    - Again, depending on where you live you don't have to pay for public transport. You can just make the free city tram circle, or at least - if you're a stop or two out you can just jump on for free most of the time.

    its really depends on u
u WFH (prolly so since in Melbourne)
do u cook? or eat out mostly
    gamer? love ur smart appliance?
    in with the latest tech?
    love long showers and baths?
    gym? exercise?
    sleep much?
hipster? love changing clothes or one trackie for the year?
    bring "friends"over

all this could impact usage and more

  • 1br apartment with 2 people here;

Find the best electricity deal you can. I am on a grandfathered 45% discount thankfully. Actual out of pocket cost is less than $100 a month.

    Water ~$100 a quarter
Internet is doable for less than $60pm if you hop between provider offers.
    Gas thankfully costs me nothing.

  • Live in CBD

    Water(CityWest) $35 each Quarter
    Power (Tango) $65 per month
    Internet (Belong) $55 per month
    No gas.

Try Globird re Electricity. I just changed from Tango.

Thanks, I did try a quote with them a few weeks ago but was slightly more expensive, will keep my eye on them though.

Depending on your electricity distributor, Reamped Energy is significantly cheaper (the handshake rates) for some areas of Melbourne CBD.

I just changed from globird to globird and dropped my daily supply charge and rates by ~20% on the same plan. I found this out using globird's "compare my bill" function, which I put the details of my globird bill into to find out how much I could save.

My takeaway is that it's worth checking periodically, as they move stuff around semi regularly.

@Domingo: Globird get very close to my current rates but can't beat them, I check every 8-12 weeks.

          • +2

@Domingo: This! It's funny how we have to do the research with the same provider to beat them at their own game lol

  • 2 People here.
    $300/Week, 2 bedroom.
Both working, not home too much unless in lockdown

    Power - 605~ kWh/Month - 0.6422/day rate $20~/month, 0.1866/kWh $112~ = $132/Month
    Water - $65/Month
    Internet - $75/Month
    Gas - NIL

    • They were asking about one person. You should move on.

    • With what energy provider you get 0.6422/day and 0.1866/kWh rates?

  • I used to live in an apartment as a single person. I could give you a breakdown of costs but sadly I have "moved on" since then.

  • thanks everyone that answered! I'm going to have a really read tonight

    This forum is bloody sassy!!!

Now for me to….move on…to my new apartment :)

Perhaps you would have received less sassy responses had you not included this line in your post?
