GHD IV Straightener for ~ $116 AUD Delivered

410

This is possibly the best hair straightener on the market (plus it's also easy to do curls and flicks).

After much hunting on the net the cheapest I could find for an Authentic Australian one was $200 dollars delivered, most hairdressers have them for around $300.

However, a UK to AUS adaptor is needed (I just picked up a $2 one off eBay). The straightners also have universal voltage.

This website is also a verified seller with www.ghdhair.com (the offical GHD website).

  • cool mate good job! got one for to give as an xmas present from Hair HQ for 136AUD 2 months ago so this is great(if everything pulls thru).

  • +2

We have 2 in our household (also from HQ), i dont use it just the missus and the kids.
best feature is the "auto switch off", saves benchtops burning.
    Excellent find and price.

I just cut off the plug and terminated with an Australian plug.

    • Hey there oz-dxer, was it pretty easy to do the plug thing? How'd you know which colours connect to what?

      • If you don't already know, then it is probably best not to do it. It is not hard, but you don't really want to make a mistake with Mr 240V.

  • Definitely the cheapest it's been for a while.

Is the difference really noticeable compared to say ~$50 hair straightener from Kmart/Myer/etc?

    • +1

yes. it's a fact. in general it is the best. cant go wrong with a ghd.

    • +1

Huge difference. Much faster to heat and use. You can't go back to a cheaper one when you have owned one.

  • does it have a worldwide warranty? how many yrs is the warranty? I cant seem to find that info

  • is the GHD GOLD CLASSIC and GHD GOLD MAX CLASSIC any better?

    • I bought the gold classic because it apparently makes your hair even shinier and curling even easier (apparently). They just sent me an email confirming that they sent it ( I also picked up some cheap Moroccan Oil FYI, love that stuff).

The Max straighteners are for thick Afro-Caribbean people hair follicles and for curly curly hair. You also can't really curl hair with them like I like to do with my straighteners.

      • If you like the MO, Groupon have a deal for another 6 hours for $25 Aria Argan Gold Hair Pack with Shampoo and Conditioner Plus Bottle of Argan Moroccan Oil for Smoother, Shinier, More Manageable Hair, Delivered ($65 Value) :)

  • Great price; good find, OP.
I bought mine from HQ Hair last year for about this price, & got the cheap plug off eBay. Works great.

  • HQ hair has the same price apparently.

  • +1

thinking of getting one for the missus - do u guys use the heat spray with it or is that not really needed?

the ghd with ghd spray and lookfantastic heat mat is goin for 5 pounds extra on the same site
    http://www.lookfantastic.com/ghd-iv-styler-with-ghd-heat-pro…

    • Yes, heat spray would be good.

  • Isn't it cheaper on http://www.ghdscheapaustraliaonline.com/ most of the time?
I'm not sure how to verify whether they are genuine reseller.

    • -2

According to ghdhair.com that website isn't a genuine reseller. Although, they do claim on their website to be genuine. Is there a possibility they could be authentic? Everything is so cheap there.

      • -2

Is there a possibility they could be authentic? Everything is so cheap there.

Those 2 sentences are mutually exclusive…
It is very likely that they are NOT authentic because everything is so cheap there.
It is very unlikely that they ARE authentic because everything is so cheap there.

  • GHD is really overrated. You can get better curls with a proper curler instead of doing the bloody twist and pull. As a straightener it does what it needs to. IE, good straightening, ok/subpar curling.

I know this because my missus complains about hers all the time.

Although for this price you can't go wrong.

    • ghd is good for straightening. Babyliss is the one to get for curling. imo these are the best 2 products for hair. takes 5mins and looks like i came out of the salon. these are also equip professionals use. forget the conical where u have to wear gloves!

  • I bought one from ASOS before xmas (delivery after xmas).

Where would be a good place to track down the GHD spray supply? I have a lot of vouchers from stockland shopping centres and some priceline vouchers so would be happy to load up using either of those or otherwise if I can get a bargain.

    • Hairhouse warehouse?

  • Just purchased one. Thanks OP :)

  • $109 at this site with free shipping - http://www.australian-ghdhairstraighteners.com/ghd-iv-styler…
Not sure how reputable this site is though, looks genuine.

  • my missus can testify to the quality of this product and she has tried lots of different ones. you get what you pay for with hair straighteners.

  • great price! i've had my ghd for abt 7yrs. for straightening i use ghd but for amazing curls get Babyliss!!! it's only abt $70. the 33mm barrel.

  • what the difference between the old/original GHD ant the GHD IV?

  • Differences between the IV styler and the Gold Classic fellas?

If im buying one for the missus, rather buy the best, so is the Classic actually better?

    Ladies care to comment?

  • bought the GHD. Do have a link to an adapter i can get? thanks

ASOS also has it for 79 pounds.

Edit: Nevermind. It only ships to EU :(

  • Thank you mate, the Missus needed a new one. =)

  • Thank you! Just bought one too :)

  • Australia is missing from the list of countries for delivery on the checkout page… how did you guys manage to buy it?

  • (oops posted twice)

  • guys google "lookfantastic.com scam" and look at issues faced by people ordering from the website.

  • Just ordered the gold version no issues, one of the check out pages has a delivery address can select Australia as the country.

@leyash LOL just saw your comment after ordering, should be fine tho.

  • Has anyone ordered off this site before? After reading the reviews, I'm not so sure…

  • $128 on asos. 20% off if u have vip code and access. australian version swell, no adapter required

    • Asos doesn't deliver GHDs to Australia anymore.

      • Serious? Since when? I got a GHD through them in Nov/Dec.

      • +1

they have an australian warehouse now. haven't tried ordering a ghd though

  • not a bad price! i picked up one from asos also, just before xmas. i paid $110 shipped to my door. one tip to anyone buying a ghd online ALWAYS go to GHD website and check that the website company is an authorised seller. ghd counterfeits are rampant online.

  • Hmm.. All the same price; lookfantastic, hqhair and beautysleuth

    • and also feelunique…

  • i got an email saying it's been dispatched with tracking ID. they gave me a link @ http://www.trackmail.co.uk… is this site even legit? Just wondering if anyone's used trackmail to track a package? Thanks.

  • Can anyone tell me, is it just as simple as cutting the plug off and putting an Aussie one on? (electrical know how also of course)

  • Was thinking of placing an order, till I realized they don't deduct VAT.

I know its a cheap deal anyhow, but legally they should be deducting VAT right?

  • Been waiting on 'Processing' for a while now…. How has this store been for others before?

    • yeah i ordered mine on 2 feb and it has been dispatched - hopefully will arrive soon!

The trackmail site is pretty useless…

    • Mine was apparently dispatched on the 3rd of feb after ordering on the 2nd. Still waiting though.

    • Mine was dispatched on the 15th. Now to wait…

      Anyone got theirs yet?

  • Same dispatched on the 4th.

  • Mine too was dispatched and no goods till today, getting a bit worried.

  • +1

Alright, so I sent them a message asking where my order was - it was apparently dispatched on the 4th. They replied fairly promptly stating they would email me some form and I would need to fill it out and post / fax / email it back to them, it was called a "Self declaration form".

Sounds VERY suspect. I replied in no uncertain terms that I should not have to declare anything, and that if they do not either provide proper tracking for my items, or if I don't recieve it by the end of the coming week, that I'd lodge a paypal dispute to get my money back.

I'll keep this updated with the outcome.

    • +1

So after some back and forth with me trying to figure out if they are a scam or just a really shoddily run company who responds quickly to customer service inquiries, I'm still not sure.

According to them, if the item takes longer than 10 business days for international post, they can class it as 'lost in post', and require you to fill out a form.

Apparently the form is some sort of declaration to say that I did not receive the goods, so they can reclaim the cost of the goods from the postal service?. Once I fill it out and email it back to them, they will process my refund immediately and it will be in my account in 3-5 days.

So the customer service is responsive and generally helpful, and apparently it is fairly easy to get your money back, but it doesn't stop the fact that I didn't receive my item. And I've never had an item lost in post before, international or not.

I'm going to label this one on the verge of a scam - they may be a legitimate site, but not delivering paid for goods means their business practices are pretty shameful.

If the refund does not appear in my account within a week or so, I'll lodge a paypal dispute - these have a 45 day window, so be aware of that.

  • Just created a dispute as well.

    Will update with process.

  • Havent received mine yet either but from their website:

"For deliveries outside the UK remember to add postage time (15 working days) to obtain a complete estimate of when you can expect your item to be delivered. Please allow 30 days before contacting us."

  • Haven't received mine lodged paypal dispute. Failed to give me tracking, very much doubt they even posted it with this level of customer service.

  • Filled in there form for a refund, if it payment doesn't clear will just lodge a dispute.

Waste of time and money……. Joke of a site

    • Just filled in and sent mine to them via email. If I don't get the refund in my account by the end of the week, I'm going to raise a paypal dispute. I doubt they sent the item at all. This is clearly a scam.

  • Never received my order either….

    Such a pain

  • Order placed 03/02/12 and dispatched 06/02/12 - also nothing yet received. Tracking system is very poor and almost useless.

  • mine just arrived! ordered the ghd iv with spray + heat mat

    • Whoa. Now I don't know what to think. At the very least this company needs to sort out its mailing practices and provide proper tracking on its orders…

Still will wait and see if mine arrives or not.

      • yeah i was getting worried about the purchase after seeing the trackmail tracking and comments on here and emailed them yesterday. So was pleasantly surprised to see the package arrive today!

They have pretty good response times although they respond with the generic email about delivery times..

        • Guess what guys, mine arrived today too! Very happy chap, but abit dissapointed it didn't arrive sooner.

        • Given the dodginess of their customer service, can you verify the authenticity of the product? Have you tried to register it or anything?

        • Just registered it, so I'm assuming everything's all good :)

        • ditto - i registered it on GHD site and had no issues

  • Good stuff - thanks for following up guys. Now I wait for mine!

  • Already started the refund process if it actually arrives will cancel this process.

There tracking process is a joke…..

    • Just received a full refund.

      • That was quick?

        • Hmmm obviously they haven't posted the item to you yet then?

If you get the Straightener… and a refund…that's interesting!

  • Try and be patient - mine has arrived after almost 4 weeks

….not sure if it's random or not but there was a notice in my box that Australian quarantine had inspected it. It doesn't say but I suspect this would have delayed it by a good few days, as anything government related seems to do

  • Arrived today, I ordered on the 14th though so I think a bit later than most here. Box was beaten up but all good. Seems to have been sent from Belgium!

  • Well mine was sent on 16/02. Still not received yet. Put in the self declaration form today asking for a refund.

Terrible service in terms of their shipping info. Though customer service replies to emails quickly.
