The same thing is for $18 at MSY.

    • +3

That's just amazing.. a 4gb stick for $18. No excuse to not turf a ton of RAM into your PC these days.

      • Every PC I build comes with 16GB now, just 'cause it costs almost nothing and means they'll probably never have to upgrade it.

        • What would use 16gb ram? Would it be utilised?

        • +1

Various video & photo editting utilities.

Especially 3 years from now. Which is why I said the only purpose was so they didn't have to upgrade later.

        • +1

16gb of RAM would not make your computer slower, ignore meetspin, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about

seek speed on ram is fast.. adding more ram.. which has the same seek speed.. wouldn't make accessing your RAM slower.. it just doesn't make sense!

        • +1

Once again - I agree it's overkill. Is this not clear?

Video and photo editting utilities are requiring more and more RAM. Ask anyone who has 2GB of RAM that upgraded from Pinnacle Studio HD 12 to Pinnacle Studio HD 15. My point is that when Pinnacle HD 19 comes out, you won't have to worry about the RAM issue.

RAM speed makes a slight difference to some video/photo suites but not much. The only time you really run into any bottlenecks with those programs is quantity. RAM speed makes a bigger difference on games, but even then it's only 2-5%.

        • lol@meetspin. ramspeeds & latencies only makes noticeable differences in synthetic benchmarks (i.e more than 1-2 seconds). In most cases other parts of your system become the bottleneck and the differences end up being in fractions. It's this reason you'll see reviewers comparing numbers at absurdly low resolutions or a stock setup.

also DDR2 @ 1333 is pretty much non existant, i challenge anyone to try and find a 1333mhz ddr2 stick for the same price as a ddr3 one :)

Ram is cheap enough these days so you might as well get as much as you want, 8gb should be the standard IMO.

        • What would use 16gb ram? Would it be utilised?

Various video & photo editting utilities.

Only 64-bit software can utilise more than 4GB.

However, even with all 32-bit applications, 64-bit Windows can utilise any unused RAM for pre-fetching and sharing with GPU.

        • @AlexF - firstly, most programs will be 64 bit or higher in the future like Adobe Premiere is now (and doesn't support 32 bit OSs any longer). Secondly, I'm pretty sure only the OS needs to be 64-bit to address the RAM. 64-bit programs are mostly taking advantage of the CPUs x64 architecture, not RAM addressing.

        • You all missed the word, "marginally".
On top of that, lets say you are doing video and photo editing, you would only buy this RAM if you running some budget PC. Core i7's are better utilised for video processing…why would you bother coupling it with 16gb of outdated RAM?

[edit] Anyway, I've done my bit trying to stop people from buying excessive amounts of budget RAM thinking it will boost performance. Getting back to it, great deal!

        • If it makes you feel better - I don't build budget PCs.

        • @tantryl

64 bit or higher in the future like Adobe Premiere is now (and doesn't support 32 bit OSs any longer).

Premier is a highly specialised (and very expensive) software, so, don't suggest it's motivation for majority of PC users.

64-bit IE9 is benchmarked to run slowed than 32-bit IE, so, it's not automatic that 64-bit application is better and IE is a lot more popular than Premier.

I'm pretty sure only the OS needs to be 64-bit to address the RAM

32-bit software is written using Windows' 32-bit API ("Win32") and x64 bit software using x64-bit API ("Win64"). Each 32-bit application running under WoW64 subsystem (in 64-bit Windows) is still limited to 4GB.

taking advantage of the CPUs x64 architecture, not RAM addressing.

Obviously, newer x64 is better than older x32, but for majority of users (most likely using 32-bit applications), extra RAM is the main motivation.

        • So you think the point of me saying "most programs will be 64 bit or higher in the future" was actually me saying "everyone should buy Premiere 5"?

EDIT You're right about RAM addressing in 32-bit programs: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa366778.aspx

You'd have to run multiple processes/instances to use more than 8GB normally (4GB for the program, xGB for the rest of the system running).

Are you playing Skyrim, MW3, Arkham City, BF3 and Crysis at the same time?

  • beat me by 45 seconds

"Compatible with all AMD platforms". Hmm. So probably not compatible with many Intel platforms?

Buttloads of place have generic 4GB NB RAM sticks cheaper:

    http://umart.com.au/pro/products_listnew.phtml?id=10&id2=113…
    http://www.msy.com.au/product.jsp?productId=5253

    And so on.

Free shipping is handy though, so no neg. But I suggest only AMD notebook users buy it.

This is a great deal and is actually 4GB + a bonus 4gb for $25. Check centrecom's facebook page. Or scroll down to the bottom of centrecom page and tick the box "bonus 4gb desktop ram"

    You'll thank me later

    • +2

      Now THAT makes it worthwhile.

I'll thank you now! - Just ordered.

Title should be changed - 8GB DDR3 for $25 inc free shipping - now thats a bargain.

Here's what it says on their facebook page :

      Centre Com
Good Morning! Another amazing deal coming your way today. Recently arrived AMD branded RAM which has been manufactured by Patriot and works with Intel based systems. We're having a promotional price of $25 for 4GB PLUS a FREE 4GB stick, totaling to 8GB (2x4GB) kit. Don't worry about stinging shipping costs either as it's free shipping

  • Notebook laptop ram please? x)
EDIT: You should probably change it to 2x4GB RAM delivered because atm it just looks like one set (title does at least).

  • +1

You don't need to goto facebook, their web page gives you free upgrade to 4GB x 2 now

  • One per customer… time to send one to a "friend"!

  • -2

yes, they said 100% work on intel system. $50 for 8G kit included freight . why not~

    • +2

8GB Kit for $25 inc free shipping. Look at the bottom of the page you linked. You might want to email them and ask them for that deal.

  • noob question here… do you think they would be able to be ran in dual channel? Also how would it impact 2x2gb chips running in dual channel? and does dual channel have much improvement over single channel?

    • C'mon man - google it. ~5% speed benefit on some apps from DC ram.

Can these run in DC? Maybe - maybe not - I'd guess they would as likely from same batch. Matching DC 'kits' were an easy way to plus up prices by a bit for just selling you 2 sticks at once.

  • note to mention, its $25 for 8GB…. so comparing this price with 4GB kits its stupid.

As a Deal with bonus RAM, this is win.

    • my query about the impact on a 4GB kits is because that is what i have in my machine at the moment

      • Well if you've already got 2 x 2gb sticks in there operating in DC and I'm assuming you have 4 DIMM slots and so want to add these 2 x4gb to make a total of 12gb of ram.

If the 2x4gb are able to run in DC then the majority of motherboards will be fine to run dual channel with all 4 slots filled.

But this is a motherboard specific issue not the CPU - and as such you need to consult your motherboard manual on the allowed DIMM configurations. Possibly might have to update your BIOS to latest version. I'd say likely it works, 2nd case scenario it doesnt and runs single channel only, marginal speed loss (you'll NEVER notice) and the very unlikely outsider is the 2 kits won't work together in which case you'll have to run only one of them.

        • thanks for the clarification

This deal would do a LOT BETTER if the OP would update the title to say 8gb of ram for $25+ free delivery….as thats what it really is.

Paid via paypal (2% surcharge) asthey have annoying onetime CC authorisation processand with 1% insurance surcharge was $25.75 for 2 x 4gb sticks delivered.

Nice find by OP…..for those wondering what you can do with so much ram I suggest you consider running RamDisk - is essentially a program that allows you to run certain programs 100% on the ram - thus making them MUCH faster (normally the HDD gets involved).

Is a super cheap way to get top end SSD speeds.

    http://memory.dataram.com/products-and-services/software/ram…

    • Lol…. I ordered exactly the same way!! And I currently have total 18GB ram (32GB + 34GB). And, I have been running a RAMDisk for a while now. :D

But I still have no idea to put this ram now… Mine is full, Dad's is a DDR2 and Laptops cant accept this ram.

  • OP - it's $25 for 2x4GB. Change it so people don't buy more than they need (like what you did).

    SOLD OUT

      • Did you have to login to paypal like usual to complete the order? I tried in Opera & IE, but the order shows up in the history & I didn't get forwarded to the payment page….

        Shows: "Order Status: Pending (PayPal)"

Chance I might get some free RAM?

        Anyone else?

        • I don't know what happened there, but its best if you contact Centrecom directly. You don't want to miss out on this offer because of a simple web redirection problem.

      • Yep, mines on backorder as well..

It probably means they are sourcing it from one of their 9 stores or something.

  • I knew I should've snatched one of these up as soon as I saw the deal. Sold up. But was a great bargain nonetheless
