has anyone got ANY idea how i can set the fan speed to 1 and heat turned on WITHOUT it ramping up its fan speed automatically by itself constantly?

I want to use it for babies bedroom but it gets so loud so suddenly that it wakes the baby up. I've tried everything and dyson support were useless.

Use remote and switch of the "auto mode"

    • Unfortunately that's how they work, i do wish they were a little quieter. Eventually the baby will be used to it I guess.

    • I actually don't think you can. It is programed to heat up as quickly as possible. It will only stop/slow down when it reaches the desired temperature, and by then, the air coming out will be room temp, not hot anymore.

    • You are better off getting a second hand Vulcan heater. We got TANGI 24 for $10. Opened, cleaned. There was quite a bit of lint on the rotating drum, don't know how it got there… Anyway, when set to 1 it is very quiet and is not much louder on 2 and 3. No problem with babies. Sound asleep.

On another note, would never buy Dyson, if only to look unusual, so guests have something to talk about. Too expensive for what it does.

i ran a killawatt on one of these the other day

    goes up to 3200 W

    • 3200w?? that seems quite high.. must be quite expensive to run

      • yea. thats why posting here.

i was surprised, it heats well but at a cost

        • Thats nutty.

It means it cant be run on a standard australian power point; you need 15A uprated circuits.

          What a stupid design!

        • Either your power meter is broken or the circuit breakers in your house are. Power is only rated to 2400w and would trip the breaker if you go over

          • @krisspy: yea. comments here made me think.

but iv been killawatting a fair few things lately so i dont have any doubts

had no idea power points max out at 2400

really dont know what to say here, tried to google this thing and power consumption

Thought our standard power points were only rated for 10A at 240V for a max of 2400W

    • Are you sure that's right? It would be drawing 13.5A meaning it would need to be wired to a 15A plug.

  • How often do you need to change the filter and will the machine let you keep using it if it wants to be changed?

    • Once a year as per Dyson

  • Sitting next to one now as I type this as it’s freezing in Melbourne!

  • Bought this a few weeks ago and returned. Terrible heating, much better off with a $15 kmart heater.

  • Note that there are newer models out now that are of course more expensive

  • Can someone suggest a decent heater for a large room?
I bought this purely for heating and it was terrible

  • After reading this review, I am getting a dozen of them and store them in our bunker, just in case of a nuclear war.

"Due to lack of supplies we travelled 6 hours to buy the last Dyson available there.

We placed it in our bedroom immediately upon coming home. That evening it showed the air in the bedroom was hazardous at a count at over 500.

We closed the door and sat nearby. As the smoke was extracted from the air, we removed our masks and could breathe deeply. We could not believe it improved the air quality to moderate. We left it running and went to sleep happy with our purchase. We slept better. We eagerly woke to check the progress and were ecstatic to see the air quality showing a healthy green range."
