Is storage soldered? 128gb is just pathetic for a real laptop.

I think while they say it is not user removable, it uses the rare 2230 M.2 SSD

update: looks like plenty of 2230 SSD on ebay

      • if only they sell those small m.2 ssd instore

      • That makes it much more appealing

Whoever decides to put 128gb as base storage is a dumbass.

256gb should be atleast the standard base storage across all 2020+ devices

      • Just a marketing trick.

    • I been using 126gb surface pro for years, perfect for my needs. But its good to get at least 8gb of ram. I got 20gb free after windows and few other apps and there is a sd card slot for additional storage.

  • AMD Ryzen 5 3580U
How does 3580U compared to 4800H?

Guess you are buyign this for the screen and weight.

Warranty should be two years if you look via the Surface app. Bought mine in July 2020 and it goes until August 2022

    • Heya I just checked mine it's coming up as dec 2022
Do I need to contact the store or Ms to extend the warranty?

      • Dunno. Maybe yours is shorter as it's now discontinued? Contact Microsoft

  • I Use an older surface pro (250GB SSD - 8.0GB ram - i5 8350U - Windows10 Enterprise V1909) for work and it flays it with two HD monitors attached. So this laptop has storage is BAD as I have torn up 90GB of the 250 and have no music and very few images.
Also.. + You need the Dock and that costs $$$ and the surface pen which I use every day, so factor that in please.
They are solid work horses but this is a pony with a small heart - imho

    • I don't think you -need- a dock for many users, or can use a generic USB C one. Not sure if this supports the pen and ergonomics would be bad anyway

    • You don't need a dock; I use mine with a USB-C hub

Its an older code, sir but it checks out

  • gee, how the prices have gone down.

    8G, 128GB yuck.
S540 would be much better at similar price point.(Not touch I know)

    • For this price point and specs, I just get a S7 plus tab instead. Also got S540 for cheaper than this.

if you're brave enough to upgrade storage, this is a good buy. Superb display - just plain great. Pixel density is up there AND you can draw on it. Not comfy cos it's a lappy but easy enough so that you NEVER need to print another form - just fill 'em out in .pdf and mail back. Saving trees! 2x3 form factorm means you CAN have 2 word docs side by side AND read the 10 point font! fuk yeh! Keyboard is great, easily one of the best in the ultra-portable category. Portability is superb. Not the fastest pony but nobody buys an ultraportable for video editing (mad people them! bonkers!) 8gb RAM is plenty for productivity. Battery life is awesome. Fans barely audible. Only bad - thick as f@ck bezels… Cheers

NGL your write up had me put in on cart… but credit card said no..

    • I'm no it expert but I struggled to find a bright screen with such a high resolution that wasn't super expensive.
Plus I think the speakers are awesome on it

The surface pro has a better resolution but it's too small plus I don't like the detachable kb

      • Yes I forgot to mention that - speakers are actually quite decent on the Surface laptop. I often watch or listen to things on it without headphones without too much of a hassle - couldn't do that with an Asus

        • +1 to speakers

just a FYI folks - I was at my local store last night, and they only have the mat black colour ones which seem to attract lots of fingerprints appearance.

    • I wanted black but reading that I think I did the right thing with grey

8gb ram for a laptop? hmmm …. is it even usable?

    • +1

Yes, 8gb is fine for most users and more than usable. There are use cases that require more ram which users should be aware of.

If you're seeing your machine with more ram using more than 8gb ram, that's because modern operating systems cache things.

    • +1

      Believe it or not
My current one has 4gb and had been fine for 99% of the time
However I'm not a power user

  • Looks like $80 store credit is now included!

    • Does your surface laptop charger make a buzzing sound when you take the charger off the laptop?

      • There is a small wine while it's charging but once it's taken off it's pretty normal

        • How about when you take it off does it make like a buzzing noise while the power is still on?

          • @Digitalco: i just checked, youre right when plugged in the charger makes a buzzing sound but i have to virtually put my ear to it

            • @Samsungnote10: I thought it was a problem but I guess it normal then if you are hearing the same thing.
