Expectations from AirAsia

Due to the $99 AirAsia Sydney thing, this will be my first time flying on a budget airline. What should i expect on AirAsia? I mean, is there a powerpoint? is water for free ( or do we use toilet taps)? stuff like that. I understand food is at extra cost (easily fixed by purchasing snacks at airport or if possible bringing them in??).

Oh and if i buy a bottle of coke etc. what are the procedures to allow me to bring aboard (Syd Airport)?

just remember to buy your coke/water after security (unfortunately at inflated airport prices)

Air Asia prices on board are pretty cheap. Relax.

  • food on flight is pretty good and you get a failure good range of items to pick from.

also after you pass security at the airport and purchase food, it will no doubt be more expensive than on-board air asia.

and you dont get free water unless you have pre booked a meal and then you only get 1 free water.

you also have to purchase blanket, pillow etc so take your own if required.

Mmm, failure means almost the opposite from the word you wanted, fairly. :)

    • water is usually RM3 (less than AUD 1) for about 300ml.

      • yup cheaper than jetstar price aud $3.5 for mineral water 300 ml.

  • It's like flying with any budget airline, u have to pay for stuff but airasia is pretty cheap… Water is like a dollar, meals are approximately 10 dollars. Blankets are 10 dollars as well… Make sure to take them with you when you get off the plane

    • My recollection was that the meals were $3 or $4. Airasia is one airline I wouldn't bother trying to avoid buying on board.

  • great replies everyone, but my main question still remains in the air …

are there powerpoints ? are they universal or malaysian plug only?

    • Only if you fly premium.

They used to have USB ports in the chairs for charging but they took them away for some reason about a year ago.

  • I didn't know there are any power points on any planes…budget or otherwise

    • i remember using them on a CX flight. Thou, i'm not sure if powerpoints are standard on planes.

      • I don't think they are standard, and I've never seen any in AirAsia planes.

They removed usb points from the economy seats a while back and no ac power neither.

BYO food if u want, they dont like it of course, even announcing it inflight, drink wise just buy on board as it the cheapest way.

  • If your tall pay the extra for a emergency isle seat.

  • i just booked tickets to KL. vego meal with water $5.

i've been advised to take my own blanky as it can get cool on the plane.

  • Can confirm the information above is consistent with my experience having flown AirAsia three times. Bringing own blanket is a must, because by the time they get around to selling you one you will have been cold for over an hour.

    • I have bought two on diff flights. Pre-ordered and prepaid. Given immediately upon boarding both times.

    • Must be my personal insulation but I dont think I have ever been cold on an AAX flight.
If you do buy a blanket pre-paid etc then dont buy for both legs, you can reuse the first one.
(for those confused by "legs", one blanket will cover both :P )

  • Scrooge here.

Anyone take empty water bottle thru customs in Syd/Melb and fill up in bathrooms?? Or are empty bottles not allowed.

    • I've seen plenty of people take empty bottles through security.

    • I remember seeing a tap near my boarding gate and people were filling their bottles with it. Empty bottles should be fine and i don't see how it can possibly be a threat or contain anything threatening.

  • u worried too much, relax all are low price
