Possible Primary Close Contact - What to and Not to Do

Hi All,

I had my first dose of vaccine on Monday. All went well apart from sore arm for next 24 hrs. Today I received call from vaccination centre that there was a positive case in the waiting area around same time as me. The exposure period I was told is 7am to 8am and I enrtered waiting area at around 7:57am (my vaccine was done at 7:55am and adding a couple of mins for me to put the jacket on/ask questions and walk to waiting area). I don't have any symptoms.

I am a bit anxious since I have received call. As soon as I received call today, I got myself test and awaiting results. I am yet to receive call from DHSS for further instructions.I have a wife and 2 kids at home and I trying my best to keep disatance. Should I be worried? What should/can I do to stay motivated/positive to see through this period? As yet I don't know whenther I need to isolate for 14 days or until I get negative test result. If I don't receive a call from DHSS does it mean there is nothing worry?

Thanks,
Sean.

Update - my test results have come "Negative" .

Is it a tier 1 or tier 2 exposure site?

Either way, if you can isolate yourself to one room until you get your results that would be good. And try and keep windows open as much as you can during the day (or at night if you like the cold) to improve ventilation =)

    • Thanks - I haven't been given that information yet. I am already isolating in one room and not sharind bathroom etc with other family members…

      • Wait for the call from DH but follow this for now

        https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/what-do-if-you-are-close-…

        • when can I expect call from DH? Within "x" hrs?? I called them earlier today and they had no information about my case at the time…

          • @b_sean: Given the number of exposure sites at the moment it might be a day or two. I know one person who was a primary close contact / in a tier 1 site about two weeks ago and they were notified by the venue and then got the call from DH the next day.

Unless the site comes up on the exposure list to clarify whether it is tier 1/2/3, I would assume tier 1 and to isolate until you receive further instructions.

In the first instance, do what the DHSS tells you to do.

In the second instance, if you do get ill and you have no underlying medical conditions, get ready to be ill for a couple of days just like any other coronavirus that doesn't carry the hysteria of this one.

I think he's more worried about his family and starting an outbreak.

      • +3

Yes, I am a little worried about family but certainly not starting an outbreak. I have been insider anyway ever since this 3rd wave have emerged in VIC. I want to listen to ppl expereience if and when they were in similar situations.

I have been insider anyway ever since this 3rd wave

Wow, Victorians actually thrive under a dictatorship.

"3rd wave" was about 10 people, come on now. Luckily it happened just at the end of the biosecurity emergency period, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to extend it again 🙄

@brendanm: How silly of all those epidemiologists, statisticians and medical practitioners to have wasted all that time and money studying when they could have just asked you.

        • I would like to gift you, your offspring and everyone linked to your lineage, this opportunity to get COVID so that you can have your staycation and being "immunised". PM me for details.

      double mask.

      I can't tell what's satire anymore.

I was going to start a thread on this. Is it a social media thing or something?
For this round of being forced to wear a mask some people are wearing two and insisting everyone else should wear two. I don’t get it.

        • +2

“There’s nothing wrong with people wearing two masks,” Fauci said at a press briefing one week before the research was released. “I often myself wear two masks.”

I wear the entire box, if one is good, and two is better…

          Here's a graphical depiction

          • @brendanm: Best picture…ever.

          • @brendanm: Lol, that’s kind of what it was like talking to this person except they were calling people anti-vaxxers for only wearing one mask.

If you got the vaccine, what the hell are you worried about? You're safe now bro?

    • +1

hahaha…it was on the day I got my 1st shot….hopefully you are right but I think it takes a few days for vaccine to kick in….

      • You'll be right. Nothing can get you now…

        • Thanks buddy……

It takes 2 weeks for your body to actually create the immunity after being vaccinated.

      • +1

+1 And even then it's not full immunity either.

        how long to transmit 5G?

        • +5

After the magnets stop sticking you'll be able to transmit shedded cells as sort of a "mesh" network

Should I be worried? What should/can I do to stay motivated/positive to see through this period?

Should you be worried? Absolutely not. Why not? There's nothing that worrying will do to help you through this. I know this doesn't help, but the best thing is to accept this may have happened, move on and focus on something else. First and foremost, keep your family safe in case you'll return a positive Covid result.

You now have some spare time. Catch up on sleep. Learn something. Read a book. Figure out how to exercise in the room etc. Take some time to sit back and take a wider view. Call places where you don't work and let the boss know you're calling in sick today. Work out how you're going to make the world a better place… or plan your revenge against your enemies. If all that doesn't suit you, there's always pornhub….. ahem. I mean Netflix. It's too late to worry about Covid. Either you caught it or you didn't. There's no a thing you can do to change that outcome. Focus on what you can control.

Oh… and stay active in this thread. You have no excuse to ghost us.

      Thanks heaps…

  • Hitchhike to another state and attend a crowded football game. That's what some people seem to think is a good idea anyway.

  • Goodluck hope you survive it to the next pandemic 😷✌🏿

  • I don't know why people are subjecting themselves to ineffective vaccinations. What's this one, 55%? I would be more worried about facial paralysis or blood clot to the brain.

    • I did some research on how they measured efficacy rates of the Covid vaccine and it was quite interesting. The process doesn't seem to sound as scientific as I expected and some of it seems to be based on luck. Apparently the Pfizer and Moderna rates were tested/measured around the same time and the AZ was done in a different location and at a different time. Because of this and the short time span it was done over, the rates are comparable.
