The 2020 Alpinist is on sale(Ivory and Gold model).

This watch features a black leather strap and a stainless steel case with an ivory dial with a screw case back, a screw lock crown and a exhibition see through case back. All Alpinist models feature a rotating compass inner ring.

  I've got this model, and while it is really nice, the green strap is ugly as hell and I am kinda left wishing that i bought the green version instead (which is what I was originally looking for).

    Surely you'd just replace the strap? The strap on my SARB017 is notoriously awful as well - I'd say replacing the band is a core part of the Alpinist experience!

    Really though, that does look ugly, and I love green. I do otherwise really quite like the cream face though, it makes the cathedral hands feel a little less chaotic among the rest of the watch.

      Yeah I am going to order a decent mesh for it, but i do like keeping my watches on their original bands when possible (with some exceptions - e.g. my seiko flightmaster is on a yellow perlon because the original strap for that is crap too).

      I put by SARB017 on a miltat brushed bracelet, far better. I replace most straps on my mid-level Seikos, e.g. the deployants on some of the Presage models are ordinary too.

    I bought this from Starbuy about 3 months ago at $729.

    I love the watch, it's an excellent piece, even the green strap since it's so different with the other pieces that I own.

    I guess you just need to match the watch with what you wear.

  Nice watch but note that SARB017 is a discontinued model and therefore SARB017 is a collector's item and likely to keep going up in value whereas 2020 models are still in production and therefore unlikely to appreciate, just yet. I have SARB017 and it's a beautiful watch without the cyclops that these 2020 models have.

  Unfortunately I was too late to grab SARB017 while it was still in production and cheap. I ordered mine directly from Japan over a year ago for close to $800. I read blogs stating that some of the ones sold on Amazon where refurbished and had non SARB017 components and therefore I didn't want to risk it.

  I bought one (SPB123J) for the same price in an early October last year OzBargain deal and immediately replaced the green band with a Seiko Steel clasp.Looks much better IMHO.
  Classy looking watch.
