What’s Your Best Hangover Cure?

Good morning team.
As most of Australia is attempting to shake off the dust after last night’s revelries and worry about all the silly things they might have said, I’d like to share with you this hangover prevention I stumbled upon and to hear how the ozbargain community relieves the post-party blues.

I got the idea when an athlete friend at work told me about Prepd, a powder/drink you take before exercise that increases hydration. Cos a hangover is mostly dehydration as your body uses water to break down the ethanol, i thought why not try prepd before a big night out? Well, it worked wonders. The next day, no headache. I have tried this on numerous occasions (including last night lol), and I’m continuously pleasantly surprised. Don’t get me wrong, this drink is not a miracle maker, meaning if you drink yourself into a stupor it won’t save you from feeling ratchet. However, for most nights, it does the job of getting rid of that annoying headache pretty well. I don’t work for Prepd, just love the product heaps.

For those of you suggesting no drink is the best hangover cure, thank you, your feedback is taken on board, but those ozbargain wine deals are not going to sell themselves haha

So, how do you prevent a hangover? I’d love to hear some fresh ways.

Don't drink in the first place or
One alcoholic beverage, then a bottle of water, repeat.

And eat before and while you're drinking

Drink a bunch of water and piss it out.

What on earth is 'a bunch of water' ?

If you're going to make comments, at least, please use the local vernacular.

In Australia, unlike the US, our water does not come in 'bunches', and neither does air.

      • Now i know water is a count noun 🤣

    Berocca and Electrolytes.

You only get a hangover when you stop drinking, so the solution is simple………………………………

At the end of the session and prior to going to bed, force yourself to consume an equivalent volume of water (or hydration drinks) to beers drunk prior. Adjust as necessary to factor in spirits or wine.

10 beers for the session - then 3 litres of water.

Urban myth or not, med students back in the day would hook themselves up to drips the next day.

    • i did hear of the use of drips being really good for water rehydration. i think there might even be a service somewhere where they come to your house and hook you up to a drip

      Wut?

      • The drip service is a thing, I don’t think they come to your house though and way too expensive for most ozbargainers https://www.ivhealth.com.au/intravenous-infusions-iv-health/…

There was a phase of these clinics opening 5 or so years ago, but they are generally regarded as pretty dodgy. Still better than people rocking up to ED with a hangover wanting IV fluids - which happens.

You can even design your own infusion - no red flags there whatsoever :)

  • Big glass of iced water on the bedside table…

Drink most of it before going to sleep, normally does the trick nicely although you tend to wake up busting for the bathroom at some point…

  • HEAR ME OUT GUYS: Take 1 multivitamin (Blackmores Men Performance Multi works best for me) tablet right before sleep, and you have a very high chance of waking up with no headache and in pretty good condition.
The disadvantage of this method is you can't drink so much that you have a blackout, as you still need to be in (somewhat) control to grab yourself a glass of water and drink down the tablet. Do not drink it before or after the party - drink it right before sleep! That's the only way it is going to work.

Steps to avoid a hang over:

    1. Stop drinking several hours before bed time
    2. Drink plenty of water a couple of hours before bed. You'll be dehydrated from the alcohol.
    3. That water you drank? You'll dispose of any excess before bed time.
    4. An hour before bed, take a melatonin tablet, and one ibuprofen tablet.

This avoids being dehydrated while you sleep, which will lead to restless sleep and a headache during the night and next morning.

literally also do step 4. melatonin to help me get that deep sleep and then a ibuprofen/paracetamol/aspirin to help

  • Prevention: food and non alcoholic drinks before bed. Instant noodles used to be a favourite for me in my youth.

Symptom relief: Asproclear if bad enough to have a headache and a hot savoury breakfast + a day sleep.

  • On The Night Out:
    - Stick to 1 drink without sugar. Eg. Vodka, Lime & Soda (white liquor is preferred).

    Before Bed:
    - 1x Benzodiazepines (Clonazepam would be my choice) or Valium (to ensure deep REM sleep)
    - 2x Panadol or Ibuprofen
    - 500ML water

    Waking up:
    - Eat ASAP (if you can)
    - 2x Panadol
    - 500ML water
    - 1x Dextroamphetamine or Ritalin (to ensure energy for the day as a CNS stimulant).

And while 1 benzo isn't likely to kill you the recommendation to take a benzo if you're really drunk goes against my understanding of drug interactions.

        • Yeah, they certainly enhance the effects of each other. Its a fun little adventure.

      • While this may be true, its certainly a hangover cure!

If you’re taking Klonopin or Ritalin to get over a night of drinking you need to reassess your life.

      • Pfft.. You sound like my Psychiatrist, my mother, any partners in my life, my employer, my councillors, the checkout chick at Aldi and my mail man. You don't know me!!!!
