Hi Ozbargainers,

The stock drama moves forward with many OTC pharmacy lines out of stock, and many suppliers not running any promotions due to the general shortages of stock - I've managed to secure a small allocation of Esomeprazole (Generic Nexium) as I keep getting PM's, emails and calls from Ozbargainers about it.

As best I can google, today I've locked in the lowest price in Oz for this product delivered, if only by a very small margin, I think this is still a bargain for those that need it.

    14x Apotex Esomeprazole 20mg

The standard dosage for most people is 40mg. And if you get a doctor's prescription, it costs $5-$6 got a pack of 30 (twice the quantity) at Chemist Warehouse. If you have gastric reflux (the condition this treats), your doctor will normally give you a repeat prescription to last 180 days (just under six months).

However, if you only need them occasionally, or have to pay to see the doctor (non bulk-billed), this deal may be better for you.

20mg is standard, 40mg is only if symptoms persist.

Oops, I thought my medication was "generic Nexium", turns out it's pantoprazole, a different PPI. 40mg is the standard dose for pantoprazole, apologies for the confusion.

I’ll try not turn this into a heartburn thread but from the last Nexium post!

I ended up going cold turkey after 12+ years on Zantac / Nexium. Ive found that onions, tomatoes, wine / beer (not gin and tonic though haha), and super high fat food (pork / lamb) are the triggers.

I can manage it super well now but has taken about 3-4 months but it’s worth it. I have a bottle of Gaviscon near my bed if I eat something a little off as Nexium takes a few days so you don’t get instant relief.

If people are struggling I would highly recommend giving it a go and following a lot of the GERD diet recommendations to see if you can get off the medication. I do miss pizza though. Maybe I’ll do a binge really soon and get some of these haha.

  • Should this be a concern? “ According to a medical study published in 2017, the risk of PPI-related pancreatic cancer is a growing concern. Daily users of PPIs such as Nexium and Prilosec are 10 times more likely than other individuals to be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer after taking the heartburn drugs.”

  • Thanks mate but any deals on generic ibuprofen better than the above?

    $1.55 for 24 elsewhere

Its really hard to compete with Coles/Woolies on the low value products which are practically loss leaders for them, considering freight is $2.20, envelope + transaction costs around $1.1 = even if I gave the product for $0 I'd have to charge $3.30 to get it processed and delivered. Sorry I can't be best in market on that type of product, $10 delivered per 100 is still a really good deal for those out in the country etc who dont have access to the big guys.
