    To my knowledge foam cannons are used as a prewash (soak?) step. Haven't personally tried it, but know it doesn't replace the wash step

    No. You still need to wash every vehicle by hand. Don't listen to any other nonsense, this process is only better than rinsing the car with a pressure washer. You would still need to hand wash and rinse off the soap

    It's designed as a pre wash, so removes the bulk of the dirt without physically touching the car in order to eliminate swirls, marring, etc that can occur when using a mitt/sponge.

    I do use it as without a bucket wash if I'm just getting the dust off the garage ornament. If it has been anywhere and has road grime then it gets followed up with a 2 bucket wash.

    You do need a pressure washer with these, so factor that in if you don't have one and want to start using this method. Well worth the investment though.

  How is this in comparison to Meguiar's or Bowden's Own foam cannon?

    Not sure.
    I have one of each and the Bowden's is definitely nicer to use than the Meg's and much much better than a generic one I got off eBay.
