I agree. I bought at a 25% off and it was cheaper twice weeks afterwards.
I ended up getting the cheaper price guarantee thing but didn't want anything else.
Do you own research on the price history and ignore the big 25% off everything (almost) sign.

Nice, could use some new windscreen wipers.

I actually need a trolley jack lol.

      • Your old sca jack should have a recall to get a free on check your emails

        • is this only for the small one or the 3000kg as well?

Perfect, need a new car battery.

I have a Verta AGM, on my 2015 Start Stop Golf TDi.
SCA, Repco, Autobarn will sell me the battery, but will not fit it, because it needs to be recoded for the car.
The VW Stealership wants $220 to install the battery.

I can swap the battery, it's very easy, but don't have the tool to re-code the battery. I was following this video, but got stuck at the recode step.

    Century recommendation
    SCA Link

Can any battery expert provide recommendations on next steps?

    • haven't looked at your link but worst case get a local independent VW specialist to code it for you, will be cheaper than a dealer

    • Depends what software youre using to register it.

In the mean time, it'll still run the car, just thinking its aged has the potential to show warnings or start-stop less often.

Batteries are still just positive and negative. No 'data' is sent.

The car will slowly adapt without a recode but won't clear errors If you got a 'bad battery' code.

      • Do you have any recommendations on what tool to use? @MasterScythe
Old mate uses VCDS but ODB11 is another choice. I don't use start-stop, I always manually turn it off, that's how this battery has lasted me 6 years+.
I have an ODB reader that can clear error codes, but that's about it.

        • disabling start stop doesn't mean the car won't try charge it at a higher voltage. you still need to code the new battery in

          • @Aldonis: yep, agree 100%.
            I will need to
            A. Either buy the software and the hardware to code it using the forums
            B. Pay the mechanic to do it for me, $50

I'm thinking I'll just go with B because as much as I love A and I can do it, it's a bit more time and effort.

            • +1

@Lord Ra: Need to code the battery.. next level german engineering doesnt happen to my ozbargin camry and corolla

              • @George Washington: @George Washington yep, thanks mate, will do, I'll try to find someone who has the coder here on ozbargain or cough up the $50 to the local mechanic.

      • Aliexpress has a VCDS for $30 seems better to buy than take it to my mech.

    • Done this for my VW from the last SCA deal. They ordered this one from Century on special for ~$270 and was happy to fit in for $20 in-store later on.

      • Did you replace the AGM with that EFB? I have to get AGM for my 2017 Skoda but I never use stop-start anyway so was wondering if I could get away with EFB instead, a quick google says probably but I'm after some real world experience now

      • Oh nice.
I rang a couple of SCA stores and they said they won't install for Start-Stop cars anymore. 😓

      • Yours is EFB. Every site I refer to online says if OEM is AGM, then I have to use AGM.
Did you 'downgrade' from EFB to AGM @EyyBanane?

        • +1

No, they tried to sell me AGM as it was in stock, but as my VW manual said, use EFB (mine’s not a golf tdi) I insisted on EFB. But they had to recode it as per the SCA person who did the work.

Don't buy a century. I have a golf mk7 and had a Varta which was solid for 5-6 years then I did one of those tests at SCA and they're like yeah it's ok but quite a bit lower you'll need to replace it soon. So i jumped and replaced it with a century after reading online how they were good and because there was a SCA sale.
Thing died after 3 years even while being charged a bit, it'll work fine then come the start of winter something will just give in it and then when you turn the car on it'll just chatter. I bought another century battery and after another 3ish years the same thing happened again a few weeks ago when it got cold.
I called up a few battery stores to ask and they all said century agm's are rubbish, most recommended Varta but then some said Amaron is good bang for buck.

In regards to coding I use an obdelelven. It takes 20 seconds to code, you're just changing the capacity of the battery and making sure the battery type is correct then you change the name/serial for it to pickup that it's a new battery.

I recently learnt that my MIL can get batteries 50% off the cost price through work. So a $500 AGM battery is only going to cost me $120 😂.

      • +1

What’s your MIL’s line of work?

    • How does one re-code/register a battery, when the battery just has + and - terminals… what am I missing?

      • You're not coding the battery itself but the car's ECU.
When you drive your car it "learns" the battery and adapts the alternator charging patterns/how it uses power etc efficiently. When you code it you're just making it know that battery has been installed and the capacity/battery type so it can relearn it instead of going off how it used your old battery.

      • You're missing the part where VW makes something as mundane as a battery swap some sort of "come to the dealership" scam. It's the only thing VW is good at.

  • do they fit headlights?

EDIT: got my answer, they say it on the product image and inside the listing.

  • Will this work for special order items?

    • About a year ago I used it on a special order item. Just add the item you want to your cart and go to checkout at 5pm to see if they item is reduced.

    • I just bought 1 special item and the code worked

price match and apply this 25% code later.

    • Coupon codes don’t stack
Super cheap supply coupon codes for price beats

      • It worked last time!

      • It does, just bought something with pricebeat and then applied coupon to reduce further by 25%, surprised that it worked before 5pm

        • This seems to be working again, last deal they were just issuing codes, which meant you couldn't use both

        • Coupon codes do not stack. I tried SAVE AND PKCB code issued for price beat

    • uh so doesn't work after 5pm then

      • +1

I bought something after 5pm with both price beat and 25% off and it stacked.

        • It sure does
          ANy PKCB codes?

          • @Mortin: Coupon codes do not stack. I tried SAVE AND PKCB code issued for price beat

        • Not stacking for me

  • +1

    Code is working

    • Yep, can confirm code's already working.

    • Can also confirm working, just used it via my Trade account. Only saved me $6 and it was the same as the RRP less 25% via the normal site anyway.

      Swings and roundabouts.

  • Can confirm this deal stacks with the current 30% off certain Meguiar ultimate products. Just purchased the Ultimate Wash & Wax and Ultimate Protectant. Total went from $84.98 down to $44.61. Absolute steal.

EDIT: Just bought another 2 bottles of Meguiar Ultimate Waterless Wash & Wax. $95.98 down to $50.38.

    • Interesting. Not working for me as it defaults to the discounted price currently available for me - for this product.

bosch aerotwin. they'll last for years

  • Sucks that we can't price match now, some of the prices are ridiculous

  • Worked on special order car battery, price had not been increased and with the code it was by far the cheapest I’ve seen it.

  • Remember, can combine with 20X EDR points on TCN Deluxe Gift Card from Woolworths.
So effectively another 10% off on top of the 25%… (Minus any jacking back to RRP).

  • The air compressor is 50% off and after applying the code, the code is working, but the price is the same. Interesting!

    Discount off regular retail price
After reading the terms, it says only on RRP. So, it's not a further discount that can stack. Yes, some exclusion applied as mentioned above.

  • Lol there was a clearance item I was eyeing for $15. Jacked up to $23.99 for this "sale". It wasn't even in-stock too.
