Laptop Deal- 15inch, 8/16GB, 256GB SSD - Budget $900

Hi all,

I am looking for a laptop for my mother who mainly does internet browsing and emails on her laptop. Looking for something snappy that I can get all the bloatware off.

Budget around $700-$900

Ideally something with USB-C so it doesn't become obsolete so quick but not a deal breaker. 16GB ram would be great, but I am sure 8 would be okay too.

Had a look on Dell outlet and didn't see anything too exciting.

So far, this seems to be the front runner - Asus VivoBook F15 15.6" Full HD Laptop (256GB) Intel i5 $698

What do you girls and guys think? Appreciate the help.

Just beware that your Asus has eMMC and not an SSD. So no extracting the drive if the machine dies AFAIK.

    • For less storage?

      • tbf internet browsing and emails ain't going to chew up 128gb

  • Recently purchased 2 X ACER Aspire 5 15" screen for reloading and restoring friends old relics. 256 SSD, 8 mg Ram USB C Card Reader for just under $950 - RRP just under $1350. Hardly Normal and TGG have for $999 but easy to beat down. Very snappy machines. ACER have been very reliable and good performers even in Education.

    • 8 mg Ram

      Deal breaker for sure

16GB ram would be great, but I am sure 8 would be okay too.

If it's just internet browsing and doing emails, you most likely wouldn't need 16GB at all, 8GB will do just fine.

    • Beat me to it… must be some serious browsing!

        laptop for my mother

Probably 483 chrome tabs open at once so may well be required

        • need 5 TB ram for that shizzle…..

      • Haha you would think but no, when she bought her last one with 4gb that was wayyy too much for internet browsing alone.
More about future proofing I suppose

  • This 15.6 inch Dell is $764.

extreme cost cutting here but none of the cost cutting is being passed down to the customer.

      Not good value for $764.

    • Doesn't even have a USB-C port let alone get powered by one. That's some old arse tech.
