Is it just me or have the specials at Coles / Woolies been not so great for the past couple of months? Seems like it much smaller discounts generally?

I feel like prices have gone up quite a bit. International freight has skyrocketed so this is likely a contributing factor, but yeah, not great overall.
I have family in the food manufacturing business with brands on the shelves. There's certainly been an increase on prices with various things, e.g. getting shipping containers from state to state has increased a lot, the rat/mouse plague impacting farmers has resulted in some shortages and higher prices.
Infact just in general there's a lot of shortages on various products.
I really don't care - I just shop at Aldi, where prices are low all the time. I even forgot I used to look for specials to buy something specific at Colesworth. What a waste of time.
But on another note, yes, I noticed that beef prices have really increased and I am really feeling it, as beef is biggest part of my everyday diet.
We do most of ours at Aldi as well.
Buy in season fresh produce and it's been pretty cheap at my local grocers and occasionally at Coles/Woolies.

OzBargainers don't do just in time shopping, we stock up in advance so that we have enough until the same product goes on sale again :)
I believe they don't send out paper catalogues to many places anymore hence maybe it just feels that way…
Companies like Coles and HN have stopped all together.
The special on Mastercards was pretty good.
