Bought some 6 pack of beer for $0 (https://bws.com.au/product/447325/steersman-ultra-dry-beer)

Edit: picked up my order with no issues. Good luck!

Edit 2: looks like there are some issues with BWS tracking the order when the total is $0. Safer to purchase something >$10 to ensure smooth pickup and payment (which seem to be working no issues).

    order cancelled

  • Anyone whose cart was $0 got a confirmation pickup?

    • I got nothing either. ETA was supposed to be 10:30am, but it's still pending.

From past experience with BWS, they don't process the $0 orders beyond confirming the order. So the store doesn't receive the order to fulfill.

Contacted BWS HQ & had them send my $0 order to store one time. Something tells me that won't work with this stuff up.

But forgot that in excitement last night & placed a $0 order. Picked up my $1 & $3 orders this morning.
Checked: Store didn't receive $0 order.

      • Anyone able to contact the HQ? I get an automated stating the HQ is closed. I'm in a similar situation with my $0 order with the store not having received it.

        • +1

You want to ask BWS to honour a $0 order…
to ask them to give away $10 of their product…
because you used a code you found…
(That wasn't meant to be used with an order less than $50. And corrected hours ago.)

I think that would be a waste of your & their time!
          No wonder they're not answering.

Disappointing, but best to move onto next Deal.

      • What a hassle :(

      • Good to know, I was gonna start hassling the store over a $0 order.

      • Bugger, I had no clue and placed a $10 order.

So you reckon this order will just sit unfulfilled until the end of eternity?

        • A $0 order is usually not seen as an order.

          • @Rather be Travelling: Literally just recieved the following SMS:

            Hi,
There's been an error with a promo code that you used for your recent BWS order. Due to our Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations, we are unable to fulfil this order. Sorry for any inconvenience.
            From BWS Online

Along with everyone else it seems.

            • @werdplaya58: Just posted it below & came back to add link.

              • +2

@Rather be Travelling: I see, it was all due to RSA obligations that they couldn't fulfill orders.

Of course, it had nothing to do with them losing money due to a stuff up, LOL.

            • @werdplaya58: received same SMS. So I unlink my rewards card and request to close my newly created BWS online account. Do not want them to keep my personal info since they canceled my first (and last) order.

              • @19331211: How did you cancel the account? I can't find the option to cancel it.

                • +2

@runamuck: I couldn't close the account on the site, despite clause 3.2 in the terms and conditions stating that "You may update, edit or terminate your account at any time through the Site."
I just used the "contact us" page requesting to close the account. But so far I have not received any reply. And my account is still alive. Easy to join in, difficult to get out.

  • Thanks Op. Just picked up my two bottles of Cats Among Pigeon Cab Sav for $20. Guy at the store said they had tons of orders this morning, still had the best of customer service

  • +1

Thanks OP, 3 Koppaberg 500ml for $5 will go down a treat šŸ‘

  • +2

Lol the guy at the local was a champ… As I picked up 2 different orders at the same place he asked me if there was something special going on as he had like 10 other orders since this morning like mine, same person with more than one order. I just said yeah there was a special $10 discount going for each order. He was like thatā€™s cool, why not make the most of it!

tldr: Local BWS guy asked whatā€™s happening with all these orders this morning, I said ā€œOzBargain, mateā€ šŸ˜‚

    • +3

Staff member I chatted with was same.
He said he is paid less than at 7-Eleven.
      "So go for it!"

  • Items never supplied for me.

  • +1

Made 2 different orders, 2 accounts(neg away whatevs), same name, $10 off both orders, easy pickup(as usual with bws), no questions asked.
    Cheers OP.

  • +6

I didn't get my pickup conf email, since I ordered a $9 item

Lesson learnt for next time, order something for >$10

    • Just got the rejection sms too

"Due to our Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations"

Wow, so they think that giving me 4 x bottles light premix is irresponsible serving of alcohol!

Wonder how they will react if I drink a bottle of vodka in store

  • Just picked up my $10 & two $1.5 orders, thx OP!

  • Yeah was greedy last night. Did a $10 order so $0 charge. No confirmation text or email.

    • +1

If you have the order number, just call up your local BWS and ask about it. They may need to "release" the order if its stuck in processing.

      • +1

"$0 orders" aren't orders, so aren't sent to stores

So it won't be on their system.
And they can't do anything about it.

Talked to staff member at my local store this morning - no $0 order showing on system for me, even with order number.
        Picked up my paid orders.

        • Thanks for the explanation. good to know for next time :)

          • +1

@3sky: Usually best in Deals not to put in $0 order. Too easy to ignore / not process.
            I still forgot last night.

  • so does this still work, it's marked as expired?

    • Expired: to exceed its period of validity

Order went through OK ($5 cost). Couldnā€™t make it into my nearest BWS until tomorrow, just got a text stating:

I can understand the cancellation for promo code errors.
But don't BS me about Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations.

    • +1

A bit rich isn't it, seeing as I have previously ordered from that account and there was no issue at all about responsible service of alcohol, they all of a sudden now have an issue with serving me?

Wait I just realized I didn't even order alcohol, I ordered 2x cokes and a red bull

    • Exactly. If that were true how could they ever have any promotions? XD

    • +6

      Yeah exactly.

They could have just said "we are unable to fulfill your order due to the terms and conditions of the code not being met". Simple as that.

Instead, if I had paid 0.01c for the order, this would have been "responsible".

  • Google review hammer coming out for that bullshit.

These responsible alcohol messages must be triggered by individual stores.

  • Very disappointed.

  • +1

Recd. the same message for the $0 order and I am going to take their BS about Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations seriously and not fall for any alcohol deals going into much needed Dry July
My love/concern for my liver has been growing recently especially after all the recent alcohol Cashback deals

    • +1

Moral of Story (for next time): Make sure your order after discount is $0.01c or above :-)

  • -1

RSA messages are total BS. I would have been fine with a promo code invalid message price error etc.

    • +5

Providing free alcohol in a promotion (the $0 orders here) is not allowed / limited under RSA rules, as far as I understand.

      • That actually makes sense. More understandable now why they put that in the texts.

  • I got same bloody email:

WTF does that mean "Responsible Service of Alcohol obligations"

  • +3

To those Responsible Alcohol drinkers who received order cancellation text and felt been inconvenienced, all you can do is to unlink the rewards card and request to close your BWS online account.

    • Exactly…

Let's start class action, force them to refund our $0

    • +1

Lol. But what about my emotional pain. Worth a thousand times more than the $0. Please add $0x1000 to the class action

  • +1

Lol. Too slow BWS, just picked up my blueberry soju!

    • Got the 3 for $27 deal ($17 after voucher) still a bloody rip off. Tasty though, the apple flavour is nice. Got peach and blueberry still to try.

  • +3

    Cancelled with an absurd reason

  • Purchased $13 bottle of wine for $3

Picked it up a couple of hours ago. All good

  • No vadka milkshake for me. Walked 2km in the cold and rain only to get knocked back at the store. Had a confirmation email too. Went home sad and empty handed (and soaked)

    • Interested to hear what they said? With a confirmation email surely they would have to give the product ā€œpurchasedā€.

      • Thatā€™s what I thought. But it seems BWS sent each store order numbers that used the code as I was the only person who ordered at my store and the staff member cross checked my order number with order number in an email sent by head office

    • Order confirmation or ready for pickup notification?

      • -1

If an order confirmation email is received, that should constitue a "contract", isn't it? A pick up SMS is just a notification. Cancelling a purchase contract, in this instance, for the value of $10, by BWS is probably not a good PR exercise.

        • I was banking on this very concept. Was a risk to go given everyoneā€™s experiences today but thought they would fulfill it off of an order confirmation.

        • +3

"If an order confirmation email is received, that should constitue a "contract""

Nah, that happens with every pricing error on here. They reserve the right to cancel any orders.

Not great PR but it will be legal. Personally i didnt even see it as a PR problem, we all went into this knowing it was meant to be over $50.

No doubt there will have been people creating masses of new accounts to exploit this. Someone has assessed the "not great PR" is better than giving away probably tens of thousands of dollars of stock.

          • +1

@Duff5000: According to the terms and conditions:

            "13. Cancelling an Order
13.1. We may cancel any Order, or refuse to accept an Order, or part of an Order at any time (including any Orders that we have accepted or issued an invoice for) without any liability to you for that refusal or cancellation at any time if:

            (a) the requested Products in that Order are not available;
            (b) we are unable to process your payment;
            (c) there is an error in the price or the product description posted on the Site in relation to the relevant Product in that Order;
            (d) the placement of multiple orders which meets our Bulk Order criteria as outlined in clause 10.1 (c); or
            (e) we reasonably suspect fraudulent or unlawful activity."

BWS cancelled some (but not all) orders "due to our Responsible Service of Alcohol obligation." So they didn't cancel orders under 13.1(a), or 13.1(b), or 13.1(c), or 13.1(d).
Maybe under 13.1(e)? BWS reasonably suspect the code provided by OP and used by ozbargainers are "fraudulent" or "unlawful" activity?

                @nephilim: From that document:

                Examples of unacceptable promotions

                • Providing free drinks which encourage rapid consumption of alcohol (e.g. all you can drink in a limited time frame).

I doubt giving people $10 worth of alcohol for free by accident would breach this somehow.

At least, no more than giving people $10 worth of alcohol for 20c, which they were perfectly happy to do.

        • No. Better brush up on Contract Law!

@Rather be Travelling: Well that all went out the door as I am now enjoying a nice frosty Ale and one I would not have otherwise consumed tonight i.e…………….or discounts of a limited duration, that creates an incentive for patrons to consume liquor more rapidly than they otherwise might"

Dreadful BWS, just dreadful for incenting me to enjoy such things :-)

            • @Borg: Naughty BWS - corrupting us & not observing RSA rules!

Enjoyed a few almost free drinks myself. Wouldn't have bought otherwise… Which "creates an incentive for patrons to consume liquor more rapidly than they otherwise might"!

    • I put through 2 at my local - one $10.20 and one $9. the $10.20 one turned up just fine, and they honoured the $9 one after I showed them the email.

No issue in SA, no shock they cancelled people ordering free drinks

    Rewards email

  • I picked up my 5 orders yesterday. Charge for each one from $1 to $5. Took a while to work their way through the system, which stated 4 of them were being reviewed

Heads up, your order has been randomly selected for a security check & may be delayed. You will receive a text message shortly when your order is ready.

Staff were a bit curious but not difficult.

    • +2

"your order has been randomly selected for a security check"? Lol, did BWS strip search your orders?

      • +1

Had that happen to mine too. Also get that sort of thing at Officeworks. Sometimes it's fine. Sometimes it leads to automatic cancellation.

        • +1

Guess I was lucky then. $50 saving on items that get rarely discounted.

          • @Yola: May I ask what did you order that rarely got discounted? I ordered a bottle of organic wine and the guy put it in a paper bag. Got home, had a look and found the label was all torn. But it was almost free so didn't fuss. Guess I didn't want to bring it back to change.

            • @apple0604: You look at labels?
              Bottles are for drinkingšŸ˜Š

Returns can be a risk, when we get a great discount. They may refund what you paid & charge for the new purchase…

Local BWS has given me the wrong amount in orders a few times - either more items than I paid for or a larger bottle… I didn't complainšŸ˜‰

          • @Yola: I ordered lots of cider, I am sure it would not be discounted by 70 - 90%, which my orders were.

        • How are your accounts going? Whatever happened during this promo have nuked all my accounts throughout EDG.

Oh well, could be a good thing.

    • +1

If the order was for same amount, or same payment, or a lot of orders for same item, BWS flags orders like that in my experience. Staff just check & approve.
      Happy drinking Yola!

      • Thank you, Infidel.

      • Happened to me once. 2 orders for the same item. One under review and got cancelled later.

        • "your order has been randomly selected for a security check"… Sure!
Had placed the same order a few times within minutes.

In the past, staff ignored the security check & gave me my order. Used to happen often enough for them to remember me.
