These look like they would be bit of a risk if you had glass beside the door frame in that you could just break the glass then twist the lock open vs. requiring a key?

If a thief is willing to break glass, 98% of homes will be breachable via a window if their front door is accessible. I doubt there’s many homes where a thief can access a door but not some other window.

I think the fire risk caused by requiring a key to get out far outweighs any burglary concern.

    • So the same risk as any other lock?

Unless you have bars on every window your home is already at risk from anyone who really wants to get in.

      • tbf a keyed deadbolt on both sides of the door would eliminate the risk of a glass door panel giving access to the lock

If someone's willing to smash a window to get into your house, they're gonna get in regardless of the kind of lock you've got on your front door.

add in some long screws on the hinges and strike plate to make it harder to just kick the door in too.

Thieves don't break glass because it makes a lot of noise and cutting themselves leaves dna evidence. I'd be more concerned about exploits found in the bluetooth after that thing is installed. Easiest way to open a door is to shoulder bump it so you should install ribbed bolts along the edge

I removed all the windows on my house for this reason 👍

If there isn't any glass next to it, there is always windows.

cant they just break glass then enter via glass?

    • +1

But the burgler might cut themselves

    • Hahaha I love this. If someone is going to rob you, they will do it. Do people actually think locks keeps crooks out? Maybe in an apartment?

      • Most crooks are opportunistic and unlocked doors make for easy targets.

    • Its looks cool to break the glass, enter to change the code then open the door from outside as is legitimate owner

      • but but.. new age crooks would look cooler if they hack the lock like they do in the spy movies

      • … and not actually steal anything from the victim's premises? ethical robber!

Wifi model would be so much better, but 2.5x the price!

    • what's the use case?

      • +2

Remote unlocking/locking. Knowing the status of the lock (ie. "oh, did I forget to lock it?". Also linking to other home automations, like "lock door if home alarm is armed" etc

  • Could this be attached to a colorbond slatted gate or will it only work on a proper front door?

  • Any reviews on this? All I can find is the wifi version
