    Juiciness*

  • +3

5% cashback at Cashrewards which would make it the same price as Officeworks price beat (or only slightly more if it's only on pre-GST).

  • +1

As this is a clearance item, not sure if Officeworks will honour Price beat guarantee.

"What is excluded from the Price Beat Guarantee?
Cashback and coupon offers (i.e. supplier cashback or reduced price available via paper coupon or electronic codeword)
Commercial quantities and pricing (i.e. a reduced price not available to the public)
Stock liquidations (i.e. competitor clearance products or goods sold by a business placed into receivership)
We reserve the right to limit sales to reasonable retail quantities."

    Happy to be proven wrong.

    • Good point, didn't notice that clearance tag. Some stores would probably reject it.

    • +4

Officeworks Price Beat Guarantee without problems. $247. Just purchased.

  • I this going to replace oz bargain's favourite LG V30 ?

  • +4

I got the Play model late last year for $200 at JB. The phone is fantastic and does (almost) everything a phone 5x the price does.

  • +1

My father went from iPhone 12 to this phone and he was very happy with it.

  • +1

Moto G is a great phone, I've been cycling them as work phones for years.

  • Hoping for a deal on 5G version.

  • does this have NFC?

  • +4

This has NFC, however it does not have a Compass. I've been using it for months and haven't been bothered however. Great cost performance on this device.

    • Good to know. What about the camera?

      • +2

Moto Gs usually have a mediocre camera.

        • Yeah, it's not great and if you try to use gcam it gets glitchy with video.

  • Is it a dedicated micro SD card slot or shared with sim card slot?
    Thanks!

    • +1

Shared, has two holes in the slot so you can do 1 x SIM and 1 x SD or 2 x SIM

      • Thanks! :)
Yes I am trying to find a phone with dedicated micro SD cards but most new phones nowadays have a shared slot..

        • Redmi Note 9 Pro has what you are looking for. Similarly specced but not similarly priced unfortunately.

          • @SnakeCasablanca: Thanks for the suggestion!

            • +3

@123bargain: Really good phone as well. If I hadn't run over it in my car I would still be using it. Also had good experience with long lasting phones with Xiaomi in the past.

Only negative is… It's not car proof.

        • +1

Asus Zenfone 6 and 7 have dedicated MicroSD slots

Zenfone 6 was last model with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Go to www.gsmarena.com and use PhoneFinder search to find phones with what criteria that you're after :-)

  • +3

Camera good in daytime, average at night (when compared with a flagship) usually I tinker with the settings a little and its fine.

Second sim is shared with micro-sd

Doesnt work with DJI Fly app :(

However this was already a great phone at retail ($399) so this is a great deal

    • Have you tried GCAM with it?

  • +2

Amazing price. Personally I'm holding out a bit longer on my LG G7 and then will pickup a new phone with an OLED display.

    • OLED makes all the difference

    • Any examples within this price range or close?

      • Redmi Note 10 but slower performance and need to wait for Chinese delivery unless can source locally.

    • My G7 was the best phone I've ever owned. After the screen shattered last week I wanted to stay with LG so got a Velvet for $480 and whilst the screen is great, the rest doesn't stand out to me as much as the G7 did.

  • genuine question.

can I buy this and go to the store to pick up during lock down? I don't see how this is an essential.

But if retails stores remain open, it means I can go there right?

    • Well if it's anything like VIC then retail is usually open for click and collect.

They'd usually have info on the website about it.

    • +2

Depends which city's lockdown you're in.

    • I'm in Sydney

  • +2

This or Oppo Find X2 Neo?

  • +2

I've had 2 G plus phones (5 & 7), both have been brilliant. Tempted to get this but the 7 plus is still brilliant, and has a compass.

    • Also on the G7+…
      stereo speakers (vs mono)
dual SIM + memory card vs Hybrid Dual SIM (2nd SIM slot shared with memory card)
      + Corning Gorilla Glass 3
      aluminum vs plastic frame
      + Bluetooth aptX
+ Quick Charge 4, USB Power Delivery 3.0

Seems the G9+ has a few nice features stripped out. I'd miss all that.
But would like bigger screen, much larger battery capacity, higher spec cameras & CPU…

      G7+ vs G9+ specs

Think I've talked myself out of a great Deal!

  • Have an almost 2yr old Moto G7+.
Considering upgrading, but maybe not this.

That phone was faulty from day1. Wouldn't hold charge for a day of little use, often wouldn't charge.

Sent for service with charger & cable - told was was up to spec. Complained again about not holding charge & was very hot on charge, Motorola just sent me a replacement charger.

After months of complaining, they agreed the battery was faulty. Sent photos. It had swollen, pushing the screen out of the phone!!

Finally, I've got the phone I should have received for my money - 2 frustrating years ago! Looks & works as new.

    • +1

The same charging issues I found on the G7+ have been found in Google Review of the G9+…
"When you plug it in the phone vibrates and says "TurboPower connected".. Then a few seconds later it happens again and repeats over and over." (In my experience with G7+, that shows a failure of charging, with the battery usually failing to fully charge. My G7+ had that problem from new.)

      • Yes I can confirm this happens to me I have the G9 plus

Took it back and they wanted to send it away for 3-6 weeks and I said no and just learnt to live with it

        • Usually returns in a week.
(I recorded a video of this fault.)

Motorola replaced G7+ charger & cable, but said was fine under testing. They replaced failed battery after a lot of complaining.
But sending for service twice to get it working as it should have (wiping data, apps etc with Factory Reset each time) was annoying

  • Picked one of these up in May when JB had it for ~ 320, replacing a MotoG 6.
Sometimes mine lags for a second or two when using Chrome or google maps (still heaps better than my old phone though).

Screen is nice and big for playing games/web browsing/streaming videos.
Most videos don't fit the aspect ratio of the screen though - so you end up with black bars either side of the video.
Just checking a random youtube video, the effective diagonal screen size of the video was 5.7 inches (14.5 mm), instead of 6.8 inches.
    Twitch was the same.

    • Similarly have those black sides on G7+ as screen lengthened, relative to width

      G9+ 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio
      G7+ 1080 x 2270 pixels, 19:9 ratio
      G6 & G6+ 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio

    • How is the Google map working since it lacks Compass? Is navigation a problem when driving?

      • When walking in an unfamiliar area, it can take a moment to navigate which way you're facing at first.

When driving, I hadn't really noticed the lack of a compass at all.
When I'm limited to travelling on roads, it's normally pretty clear which way I'm going.

  • +5

Maybe unpopular opinion. This phone is way too big. 170 x 78.1 x 9.7 mm. For comparison Poco X3 which is already a massive phone in this price range is
    165.3 x 76.8 x 9.4 mm

    • Depends on your needs & uses. And what you're used to. I prefer big, but not tablet size.

Size is certainly commented about in user reviews. Most prefer big, a few small.
(eg "It is a bit big and heavy but I soon got used to it, and after a while other phones seem a bit small")

People preferring small seem to want it to fit their clothes & use it more as a phone.

I almost never use a computer, preferring a phone. (21647 comments here posted on phones!) Rarely used as a phone!
Also use for music & videos, especially when travelling.
That's a primary requirement as I (used to) travel light (without laptop / tablet, just a carry on bag) up to 9 months a year overseas.

      For 2 years I've used a Moto G7+ (posting this comment on it) which is 13mm shorter than the G9+ (157 x 75.3 x 8.3mm).

Recently needed to use my old G4 for a week & found it ridiculously small to view & use the screen keyboard (144.4 x 72 x 9.9mm). Seemed a good size a few years ago!
Again only 13mm shorter & 3 mm narrower. But a lot different to use! And not great for watching videos.

Body size isn't everything. The low 66.3% screen-to-body ratio on the G4 is also to blame, compared to 81.4% for G7+ & 84.3% for G9+.

      Wouldn't mind a 13mm longer one!
Would still fit my pants pocket which is vital, and would be easier to view & enjoy for my uses.

  • Using g7 and screen too big and too small resolution. Makes me dizzy. Or something about it makes feel dizzy

  • i missed the Razr - i hope it comes back to $800 on JBHIFI

  • I brought this on the deal 3 weeks ago. Great phone, but still no wifi calling abilities… Also, while it is a dual Sim, it only allows only dual sims, or 1 sim + an SD card, unlike my old G6Plus which allowed all 3 at the same time.

    • Discussed differences between G7+ & G9+ above. Making a choice between dual SIM or extra memory is too big a compromise for me to "upgrade".

A Google Review discussed this wifi calling issue in UK…
Maybe contact Motorola - ask on support forum.

discovered no Wi-Fi Calling (despite being available on the G9 Play). This is madness, it's supposed to be an android feature. Lengthy calls to Motorola produced the inconclusive answer -
"I am afraid the g9 plus is not compatible with Wi-Fi Calling on any UK network..Since the moto g9 plus is a brand new model I am pretty sure that they will add it to the list very soon. The moto g9 play which was launched only a few weeks earlier than the moto g9 plus is already supported. "

  • It could be one of the best mobile deals

  • +1

Good phone, but no compass is a non starter for me.

    • +1

How bad is GPS navigation without a compass? I assume the accelerometer is used to give direction?

  • Must be a new model coming out soon.

    • New Models G10 and G30 are already out. Got the G30 for ~$227 from JB recently - was a 20% off Moto phones deal and then an extra 5% off voucher. I used discount GC's to make it even cheaper. Amazing phone for ~$200!

      • +1

They've been out for a while.
Seem many features were stripped out to make them cheap.
Read reviews - not impressed, & saw in store. I have a G7+… wouldn't want either of those. This is a better model for about $40 more.

The comment was - there may be an upgrade to this model.

        • +1

The G10 & G30 have low resolution screens in comparison.

  • Latitude Pay has $20 off $60 min at TGG!

  • Got one from officeworks Glebe for $247 - they said it was the last one in the store

  • I also got a price beat from Officeworks. (Preston, VIC. Plenty of stock.)

Pleased to see VoLTE is functional on Boost.

  • Just seemed too heavy for my old arthritic wrists ,so bought a g8+ when this came out .
I could do with the extra battery life thou , as I use the phones (Felix) hotspot constantly.
    Tempting + $Voltaren$.
