Have you tried Whirlpool? They love bitching about ISP's there.

They are quite shi**y they could not get my service activated for like half a month (I was going with them for using my own modem), (gave them like 10 days notice, like you know how you set up the connection date to start from today, tomorrow etc. I gave them 10 days like that) and still another like 7 days and they cant get service activated making stupid excuses, that its your line or your system… blah blah blah…

just for your information, my connection from Excetel to Superloop activated within 0 days ( activated the same with superloop when excetel was on its last day)

Well that time I went with belong after Tangerine cant connect my home to internet, Belong took 5 days to deliver the modem, and then when connected modem took like 2 days to activate from NO CONNECTION.

But now my Belong contract expiring soon, and i have a few spare sims to burn data from so I may use them in the mean time and try Tangerine for once again after 1 yr of initial trying.

But honestly speaking I can already see disaster coming from Tangerine (just from my own experience in the past)

    • On the absolute flipside I’m on Tangerine and brought my own modem and they were extremely helpful in getting me connected. It was all done within an evening.

I’ve also referred a few friends who had similar experiences or did buy their modem and have had no issue.

OP, it sounds like it could go either way.

      • thanks! do you know if the router you brought with you, was any particulars specs? It was $149 to buy one thought them, but I was thinking of just getting one on the facebook marketplace.

        • I was given one from a friend and my logic was that as that was free, worst case scenario if that failed, I would just go buy the exact router that Tangerine recommended from CentreCom.

          My router is: https://help.iinet.net.au/sites/default/files/2019-12/TGIINe…

I was able to follow Tangerine's suggestions on how to connect your BYO modem and then called and they helped me along the rest of the way. It was just changing a few settings and all done.

        • I used my old dodo modem and after calling tangerine to walk me through the setup because it wouldnt load any websites (had to change multiple settings) I haven't had a single issue since the call. It's super simple to setup and was actually activated straight away as soon as I signed up online I just couldn't load websites due to the settings on the dodo modem (Huawei gateway is the brand of modem) being incorrect for fttp and NBN (no phone needed) because my old setup was first ADSL 2+ and then it was NBN ftn but through phone line.

  • I have just started with them on the 6 month promo bait and switch, swapped from spintel after their promo months.

From clicking order to starting the new plan was 24hrs - which was the low end of their estimate (they say anything from 1 - 3 days)

so far so good. but be aware unlike the optus and telsta's, if you cancel at the start of your billing cycle you get NO! pro-rata (same with spintel)

    I had a BYO modem

    • same experience as you.

set up great. service great. no pro rata on cancellation was/is BS though.

    • I switched to them through OBS promo 4 days ago, and my activation was instant,
just my modem settings were incorrect which took me 2 days to realise as was moving house but I called them and they walked me through the settings and my internet's been nothing but aweosme on their XXl plan

  • Currently using Tangerine at a business location in Collingwood, Victoria (If that matters). I have no complaints at all with the service. Also, connectivity to them took less than a few hours to switch to them (I used my own router). I switched from Kogan Internet which was totally abysmal speeds in comparison.

    • do you know if the router you brought with you, was any particulars specs? It was $149 to buy one thought them, but I was thinking of just getting one on the facebook marketplace.

  • Fine for me on 50/20 FTTP. I keep switching between ABB, Superloop, and Tangerine. I also use Launtel for any transition periods as they do day-to-day billing.

  • We finished our 6 month promo with them recently, on the 25/5 speed.

Went in with fairly low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised for $50/month. Churning in and out was fairly straightforward, and the connection was quite stable during a couple of WFH periods.

The only thing I'd say is that their billing Is not very intuitive, so you'll need to spend a bit of time getting your head around that.

  • Happy customer here :)

  • Used them in Darwin last year. Read some bad reviews before connection but was pleasantly surprised.

Good speed. Very minor dropouts occasionally. Easy setup. I’ll happily use them again.

  • Thanks everyone, I am looking to just buy a modem on Facebook marketplace for Tangerine, it there anything that I need specs wise?

This is what it said I when I selected that I would BYO modem.

    HOLD ON!
LOOKS LIKE YOU’RE PLANNING TO USE YOUR OWN MODEM?

Due to the high number of devices available on the market we can only provide limited ‘best efforts’ support in getting you online.
You must be confident configuring your own device.
If you are ordering a home phone service - your BYO modem must support VOIP and must be re-configurable.
If you are not confident we highly recommend purchasing a pre-configured modem from us.

    • A VDSL2 modem.

  • They were reasonably quick to connect and faultless ever since. My only gripe is their site worded the modem section as kinda "you HAVE to buy our modem to connect to the NBN, so I was thinking the NBN phone cable literally plugs into this modem. (as my WIFI router didn't support that option, I purchased the modem). Then installer comes with another modem that ACTUALLY lets the phone cable plug into. And then I connect my WIFI router to it to have a decent signal. So I paid for a useless WIFI router that I don't need. Contacted them and explained and they were "yeah nar, F off"

  • Just got this from Tangerine;

    has anyone got this before??

    Hi,

Thank you for your recent order for an NBN Connection.

As your property is serviced by FTTB (fibre to the Basement) technology there is some important information you must read in this email.

NBN records show that your property does not have a copper line available on site. As this NBN Connection type specifically runs through the copper, the NBN technician may need to install a new line from the basement to your unit/property to get you connected. The New Line Connection fee is $300 inc. GST.

Often times, the NBN technician finds an available copper line and uses that to connect to the unit. In those cases, the fee would not be applicable. However, if not, the fee would apply and may reflect on your next invoice.

Please advise if you wish to proceed by responding to this email as the order will not progress if you do not accept the possible charges if applicable. If we do not receive any response from you within 2 weeks from the day that you have signed up, your order will be cancelled.
If you have concerns regarding this, please speak with our team at 1800 211 112 or reply to this email.

    • If nbn records are right and there is no line available you have to pay the $300. It doesn't matter who the ISP is. If there is a line available there is no install charge.

  • Merged from Tangerine NBN - Any Good?

Is anybody with Tangerine for their NBN and have an opinion on their service?
