    nice find
    $704 for the 308 (8" woofer)
    for those want it

  • These are very good powered monitors. Had them a few years ago and only replaced when I got floorstanding speakers. Good price as well.

  • How do they compare to KRK ROKIT 5 G4 from this deal from few days ago?

    • From the reviews I read, the JBL’s produce a flatter/truer sound, which is better for DJ & music production. The Rokit’s on the other hand producer a nicer tone for general listening, but that somewhat defeats the point of studio monitors.

      Comparison reviews:

With that said, if you want the best budget studio monitors, supposedly that crown goes to the Adam Audio TV5's. However at almost double the price (at least in Australia) I wouldn't call them budget.

  • Really good value at that price. I paid $380 for my pair a few years ago and am very happy with them for desktop listening.

Only real caveats I can think of are the average looks and build quality (but reasonable considering the price), and a slight tweeter hiss noticeable when powered on near-field with nothing playing — usually doesn't bother me. In terms of sound pretty much the best new speaker you can get for the price I think.

    • The hiss is very annoying for me.

      • Yeah fair enough. I usually have them either powered off or powered on and playing music, and don't notice it in either of those circumstances unless listening at very low volumes.

Turning the internal amp knob down to 5 or so makes the hiss unnoticeable for me from more than 10cm away. Though that's when running them through a proper DAC that my PC outputs to over SPDIF. When I had them plugged straight in via 3.5mm direct to my PC it was a lot worse yeah.

        • I would imagine if you have a hot-ish digital preamp on balanced and run less volume on the speakers I bet you get zero hiss.

I think this is the best damn deal for SQ at this price level assuming you have a good digital dac preamp combo to suit.

        • I've connected mine through the companion LSR310S sub via XLR which then goes into a Steinburg UR22 Mk2 preamp via RCA. The volume knob is at 5 as well. There's a hiss regardless and I'm 50cm away. Every online search confirms it too

          • @InfamousCalf: Even without the sub? Have them running via XLR myself also from a Behringer SRC2496 (which my PC just goes to via SPDIF again). Wouldn't surprise me if the signal from their own sub is a bit dirty though given the built-in hiss.

    • I notice the hiss when playing things at low levels - but I work in audio so I may be more sensitive to it than the average listener. I'd say they're also relatively bass heavy, so if you need a flat response monitor it won't suit you. Pretty enjoyable listen though. Worth it at the price point.

  • Anyone know the idle power draw? Would have thought its a hassle to have turn each speaker on and off all the time.

    • They are class D - they should be left on all the time. When off they will use close to zero.
