    does it really worth?

tap water is your best friend

      • +3

Yes I find that Sydney got the ratio of recycled sewage water just right.

I was in a unit in Sydney and tap water tasted fine but it was never really cold from the tap so I had a filter jug in the fridge all the time. Now moved to a house 5km away and it tastes good and it seems cooler temp as well. I've just chucked my Brita jug in the recycling bin… I might regret it if we get a warmer summer than last but taste-wise I've not been able to detect a difference. At my inlaws 2km away they have an older house up on a hill with what I assume is longer and older pipes from the street and I've never been a fan of taste or temperature from the tap there. Inlaws have a similar filter jug but they've stopped buying filters :) I've used all of mine otherwise I'd donate them to them.

Would be interesting to know the country of origin for those filters

    • +1

doesnt matter which country now all got covid…..

      • I have my idea as to where COVID came from. ;) It's more got to do with whether the people in those factories care about the quality of the products leaving their gates…

        • but the 24 or 25 american bio-warfare labs are strategically placed on all continents…..

    • Just checked mine. They're made in Germany.
But I bought them from Costco when they're on sale last year though; not sure if it's changed since then.

      • We are down to last 1 or 2 and same as you we bought from Costco and they are German made.
Just don't want to be stuck with sub-quality filters…

        • Costco has the 8 pack genuine Brita filters on sale for $55.99 again at the moment but the box doesn’t say where they’re made. Instead, it shows two addresses under “Manufacturer”. One address in Germany and the other one in China.

Ironically, Costco is also selling a Kirkland brand “Brita-compatible” 8-pack filters for $59.99 (not on sale) which is clearly marked “Made in Germany”. Guess I’ll pick up some Kirkland filters later when they’re on sale. :)

          • @onon0402: the Mrs sent me to Costco last night to get a box of these and when I picked it up, I checked to see where they were made. I discovered the same as what you saw, 2 addresses at the bottom of the packaging, one in Germany and another in China.

I saw the German flag when I flipped the box around, and underneath the flag it stated German Design and German Quality, I then said to myself, they want us to know it's German Design and Quality but it doesn't/couldn't say German Made.

Having read your comments I am now aware that there are Kirkland ones which are made in Germany. Will keep an eye out for these.

            • @hubs1982: Did you buy the Brita filters finally?

I didn’t because I still have 5 or 6 made in Germany ones at home.

              • @onon0402: Nah, I still have 2 or 3 ones which were made in Germany. Will keep an eye out for the Kirland ones.

  • Was chasing a Brita Flow Cask :( not on their store.

I’ve got a plumbed in 2 stage filter at home (Tas). Got one of these for the disgusting Melbourne tap water I’m having to drink for a few months. Tastes better filtered through this. Not as good as at home, but bearable. Filters are supposed to be replaced monthly. Maybe you could stretch that if not using it much. It’s got a handy little flip up spot in the whole lid to easily fill.

    • Wow, on a page for a product meant to clean water I get negs for saying Melbourne water isn’t pristine. What are you doing looking at this product if you think your tap water is fine? (BTW my Tas tap water isn’t perfect either, but a bit better.)

      • Some folks are a bit sensitive I suppose

The 2 stage filters are fantastic, especially if you have the under sink arrangement. Nice and neat, with cheap consumables. I'm in a rental at the moment so Brita jug for me

  • +3

i don't think the filters at $39/4 is cheap as you can get them from BigW for cheaper than that

the jug is probably decent price at $20 including postage

    • jug + filter yeah $20 is good I reckon.

    • +1

That link isn't for 4 filters at $39, it's the jug plus 4 filters for $39.

      • $10 for a filter normally I guess $39 for 4 filters + unit is ok.

or if you just want to pay $20 for 1 filter + unit is ok too.

      • +1

Thought it was clear enough; updated though.

        • +1

It was clear for me, think Peter just misread :)

          • @hoju83: whoops, well then the 4 filters included is easily a good deal as each filter is worth more than $5 each :D

  • https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/352529169336 - 10 filters for $7.50 each if using discount

    • Can't use PFINAL40 code for that item.

    • cheaper at bunnings, 6pack is $54

      • With the AP discount it is 15% off

  • +1

Use the filters you buy in TARGET they will fit 3 pack for $15.00.

  • Does this help with tap water that has a metallic, hard taste?
I bought Pureau water and it tastes smooth and great, makes a nicer cup of tea, will this do the same?

    • I have 2 of these jugs at home and I could tell the difference in taste between tap (slight chlorine taste) and filtered water. Would personally recommend if you dislike the metallic/hard taste of tap water.

    • Yep, thats what its best at I think. I personally dont mind tap water, and bought this just to take better care of my coffee machine, and its definately a surprisingly big taste difference.

  • $39 jug + 4 filter is better value since those three extra filter only costs $6.67 each which is even cheaper than Costco
